This is NOT a bad review of the 870 QVO. I had purchased it expecting it to work with my MacPro 5,1 running OSX High-Sierra. The computer was able to read and write to the drive. However, when using it as the OSX bootable disk, the computer would not boot-up. I tried using APFS and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and both attempts failed after many tries. So this is info for anyone thinking about installing the 870 QVO in an older Mac. After my issues, I did a deep dive down the rabbit hole of forums and eventually found some info from others who say this SSD will not work properly on some macs and advised to instead use the 860 EVO which many have had success with (I have ordered an 860 EVO).

I swapped this with a mechanical drive. Very efficient drive. No issues so far! Super fast read & write speeds. My OS now goes from coldboot to desktop in less than 2minutes!! & everything loads faster as expected!

What Samsun doesnt tell you is that, beyond 72GB of SLC cache, this thing drops to its knees. 50MB/s for normal files and 100MB/s for very large files.

I bought this to replace my ageing and smaller intel SSD. This takes around 1-2 minutes to load, where as the much older and storage depleted intel SSD would load in what appeared to be 15 seconds or so. I havent even had this drive for a year yet, while my intel was at least 3 years old. I would not recommend this drive if youre looking for a fast SSD.

Great deal extra storage

I used this to replace a slow conventional mechanical HDD of the same capacity on a laptop computer. This made all the difference. I love the speed of SSD. Even though I maxd out the RAM at 8GB, the SSD provides extra performance to make up for the RAM limitation. Laptop boots up faster and response time for installed applications are faster.

I had a WD SSD that I bought less than a year ago which crapped out. There were so many hoops to jump through with WD to get a warranty replacement I just gave up and bought this Samsung. Everything I have that is Samsung always works perfectly, and customer support is easy to reach if I do have questions. No more going cheap, will stick with Samsung from now on (it was only $10 more than the WD SSD)
