I like the speed of the 980PRO. I have about 10 different M.2 SSDs of varying sizes, capacities, generations, etc. I had hoped to use this one in a mini PC, but found that the factory heat sink is too large for that use. I decided to use it in an enclosure (a bit of a waste for an SSD in this speed range), but even that was a challenge as it would not fit in any regular SSD enclosures. I cant really rate the full speed of the device since I could only use it with an external enclosure and only with one of about 10 different enclosures that I tried. If the heat sink were only a couple of millimeters thinner, things would have been so much easier. If you are putting this in a PC that has lots of room, I think having the heat sink is a great idea, just didnt work in mini PCs for me.

I had one of these in my gaming laptop and it was great. For my more stout gaming rig I went with the rocket q4 because they had slightly better read/write speeds.. and well.. regretted my purchase within 6 or so months. The benchmark speeds from day 1 were awful and no amount of tweaking with their software could fix it. The biggest issue is for whatever reason the MBR kept getting corrupt (sabrent kept saying it was a software problem and not a hardware problem and refused to warranty it) and locked the computer up. That meant every couple weeks or so I needed to reformat the drive, reinstall windows completely from a boot drive (because windows couldnt fix the problem on its own). Which meant i lost all my data as well (mostly games that I had to re-download, and partly because i was lazy and didnt connect my sata backup up, but still frustrating either way). I decided to go with this drive again for the rig and it was night and day different. Benchmarks were way better, faster boot, and havent had to reinstall windows again! Knew I should have went with this to begin with.

I gave 4 stars only because I ordered w/heatsink and it doesn’t fit under my laptop access cover. Consider when buying because if I had known the heatsink was going be an issue being too bulky/tall I would’ve ordered without. I’m concerned over time the plastic cover will warp or melt pressed against the heatsink. Other than that it’s lightning fast and scored high on Tom’s Hardware. It puts out some heat but I bought a laptop cooler to mitigate any overheating issues. You can never go wrong with Samsung quality products and I highly recommend as an alternative to the more expensive 990 Pro.

I have had a SSD in my gaming rig for a good long while. When the time came to upgrade I decided to get a M.2 drive and this one popped up. Installation was a breeze and most motherboards support the socket these cards need to take advantage of the increased boot speeds youll get replacing an older mechanical hard drive. I use this primarily as a OS boot drive and have my game installs located on another. Performance is there and I can see the difference verses older technology. Very happy with my purchase.

When the one terabyte drive that was in my laptop reported eminent failure, I picked one of these up and did a straight across clone. Then I adjusted my C partition so that I have twice the space that I had before. This has been very reliable for me and in fact since my laptop can take two drives, I purchased a second one in populated the other slot. So now I have 400% more space than was initially sold to me with the laptop. Very quality workmanship and reliable. I highly recommend this

No complaints here. Have purchased multiple 2TB 980 Pros for my PC and PS5. Zero issues whatsoever with either setup!

I only get a write speed of 540 MB/s and a read speed of 1.5 GB/s and the price dropped rapidly after I bought but I was unable to cancel my order despite over a week of delays before shipping
