I have two T5 SSDs of different capacities. I have been always worried about my time machine backup on conventional HHD with moving parts. For the peace of my mind, I use one T5 SSD of 500 GB for backing up MacBook Pro. I use the other T5 of 1 TB as my portable storage. I formatted this storage-purpose SSD in the exFAT file system. Hence, I can use this SSD on three major OSs (Windows, Mac OS, and Ubuntu Linux). There are so many reasons to use this SSD for backing up and portable storage. Among them, three major reasons for me to buy this SSD: 1) Brand name, SAMSUNG, 2) near perfect shock-proof, and 3) less-likely file corruption. It conveniently comes with two cables: USB-c to USB-B and USB-c to USB-c. Its small form factor makes it excellent portable storage. And its transfer speed is FAST! If the price of this SSD of 2TB drops, I will buy one more to replace my photo backup HDD.

Samsung delivers another excellent external SSD. I own two T3s and one T5. I just point out to you that this is a European model and I discovered that if it needs service you have to pay for mailing it to and from the Netherlands. Still, fastest, best external SSD out there right now.

I have been using the Samsung T5 portable SSD 1TB for saving all my computer, photo, and video data. It is nice to see transfer rates in the 300mb/sec+ on a regular basis. I never had to use any tech support so I could not rate that feature.

It’s very small, like half a deck of cards in thickness. Fits in the palm of my hand.

I use one of these drives every day, and if you dont mind its limited 500mbps nominal capability, this drive may seem nice for the stated price. When you check out its competition in the OWC Envoy Pro 1Tb (yes costs a bit more) with 2800mbps nominal capability, then you realize - with the Samsung you are still in the slow lane.

Very high transfer speeds. I use it in conjunction with the ASUS USB 3.1 gen 2 pci card.
