Seachem Safe 1 Kilo

> 3 dayFirst off the positives: Good value in that one kilo can treat nearly a million litres for chlorine removal at the standard rates in tap water Binds Ammonia into ammonium for 24-48 hours, so handy in an emergency in a brand new tank / Pond. Negatives: Dosages to lower Ammonia can be 4 times higher, therefore reducing the value for money aspect No scientific proof or explanation that it lowers / eliminates / binds Nitrites or Nitrates - only Ammonia. Confusing dosage instructions on the label vs their site that can require much higher dosages, see below from seachem’s site: NOTE: These directions supersede all other prior packaging. 50 g Use 200 mg Safe (scoop) per each 200 L (50 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or per 50 L (13 gallons) for ammonia. All other sizes Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 1,250 L (300 US gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 300 L (75 US gallons) for ammonia. For precise dosing, use the Seachem Digital Spoon Scale. May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely. To detoxify nitrite and nitrate in an emergency, up to 4 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.

> 3 dayThe spoon was stuck in the container, I had to dig out the solidified contents into a bowl to get the scoop out. Maybe sticky tape it to the side. Other than that this works as expected.

> 3 dayThis is great regardless of the smell. Cheap and practical if you have several tanks. No other better alternative IMO.

> 3 daySafe is an EXCELLENT product. It will literally last you years. But a word of caution: do NOT open the bottle inside your house. Walk about 20 feet away, take a deep breath, cover your nose, then go ahead and measure it out. If you have gas lines at your house, be prepared to be mildly freaked out that your lines might be leaking because this stuff smells like rotten eggs, and it is intense.

Greater than one weekIt is so much cheaper than prime. With a 180 gallon fish tank this does the job well.

> 3 dayIt seems completly full (accounting for shipping settlment), but I wish there was a seal on it to make sure it wasnt tampered with. - no seal. I still have to use stresscoat+ to remove heavy metals but this will last longer than my fish will. and absolutely dont put your nose near the open container - eeh gads the smell!

> 3 dayIts a little different to use than the seachem prime as for measuring the amount to use goes but it works awesome. It goes along way which is why I adore it since i have 5 large sized aquariums. My opinion is if you just have one decent sized tank or two smaller tanks just use seachem prime. To me the seachem prime is easier/more convenient but if you have multiple tanks and do lots of water changes the seachem safe is the way to go.

> 3 daySeachem is absolutely the best product line out there for aquarium care. Safe is the powder form of Seachem Prime and is a much cheaper alternative. Its very simple to use and only takes tiny amounts due to its concentrated formula. I have been using for over 5 years on 13 tanks. I even use it to quick cycle tanks so I can add fish right away (not the best way to introduce fish but sometimes necessary). Safe keeps your chlorine in check period. It is used with water changes as a water conditioner but it can also be used as an additive to keep your ammonia in check . The Seachem site has all the answers you might need. If you have multiple tanks or just like the thought of saving some money go for Safe.
