I switched my smart lighting over to the Zigbee protocol, and I basically built a sub-network for smart appliances that took the strain off the wifi network. Zigbee is resilient, it uses a mesh protocol, longer reach through more walls, and perfect for low-bandwidth devices. My only complaint is that Zigbee devices themselves tend to be more expensive than their wifi counterparts. Home Assistant automatically recognized it, and added all my zigbee devices.
