This is the best filter system. It has all 3 kinds of filtration: mechanical, chemical, and biological. The cartridges are economical, available everywhere, and super easy to change. The motor is simple and very reliable, and I noticed the replacement parts are not expensive at all, although I have never had need for any replacement parts. If you let your water level get too low this filter makes a quiet waterfall-like sound. This is pleasant enough, sort of like one of those zen meditation mini-waterfall thingies people have, but is also a reminder signal to you that you should do a partial water change and top up the water level. Keep the water clean and full, and your fish are happier. I like to do a super quickie (10%-15%) water change every week and top it up, and with this great filter I actually never have to any water change bigger than that, not ever. I have had fish for years. The secret is totally keeping the water clean. Dont overfeed them, partial water changes often, and use a great filter. Go ahead and buy a tank a little bigger and a filter capacity a little bigger even than that, more than what you think you need. For example, I have a 38-gallon tank and the Tetra filter that filters up to 60 gallons. When I first got my little 29-cent goldfish that were only a couple inches long, they looked a little ridiculous in that big tank. But they grow fast if you have clean water. Everyone who comes to my house freaks out about my huge goldfish. But my fish always get really, really big and live many years.
