Greater than one weekI run my own small business and have used TurboTax for some years now. I find it to be quite accurate - a very good tool for individuals and small businesses who prepare their own tax returns. I find that over the years it has become a bit busy with unnecessary screens touting additional services, but I understand the marketing aspect of all this. My one complaint is that I think the product is very overpriced. The profit margins must be incredible. I assume that they price it to come in just under what it would cost to have H&R do a simple return, and that is probably not a fair standard for the consumer even though it makes sense from TurboTaxs point of view.

> 3 dayWell Turbo Tax software is great. Have been using it 6 years. Makes doing taxes all most fun......no not really!!! But with this software it does make it very easy. Walks you through each step and instructs you on what you need next. Can even file it electronically for you!! Now what accountant will do that for you without the extra fee!! Great price on Amazon......thanks Amazon!!!

> 3 dayProduct is Great. I would give it a 5 if not for price. I started out with the product years ago when it was a low cost option. While it is not so inexpensive these days, it is still my choice.

> 3 dayThis weekend, I attempted to file my mothers income tax with this software. She had used the TurboTax version for the Taxable Year 2009 as well. However, both versions have one major software flaw, and its a big one: Even though I entered values for capital losses in the software, it did not show in the final version, nor were these capital losses refelected in the tax computations. Effectively, even though capital losses may be carried over indefinitely, my mother would have lost them meaning that (1) she would not have had the benefit of offsetting any capital gains (she sold her home of 35 years and, yes, she did have a large paper gain, even with the $250,000 exclusion for the sale of a home) and (2) even if she did not have a capital gain, $3,000 of capital losses may be utilized per year to offset ordinary income. These capital losses were not reflected in her 2009 tax return, also filed via TurboTax, so she lost that $3,000 deduction. I will have to file an amended return for that year. Fortunately, I was able to download H & R Blocks software so that her return (with the extension) was timely filed today. My biggest concern is this: I have an advanced degree in tax and was able to crunch the numbers in my head. I only use this type of software because it is more convenient than filling out a paper form. And, beside, the IRS prefers electronic filings. But what about those of you who are dependent on this software? Had I used this software, my mother would have owed $15,000 in tax. However, she really owes nothing. Makes me wonder what other little bugs are in this software. STAY AWAY!

> 3 dayI used TaxACT (TA) first for a tax assignment and then used TurboTax (TT) to compare and contrast - about 2 months ago. Back then, TT seemed a little bit more user-friendly than TA. I recall the language of TT was simpler, and the interface was nicer and simpler than TA. Overall, the impression I left with was that TT was simpler to use than TA.

Greater than one weekIve been using TurboTax for the last 15 years and it always does an awesome job. It lets me know what my audit risk is and this year I received $150 more on my state return when I didnt use all my charitable deductions... dont ask me why but there must be a weird formula the state uses. More than paid for itself! Highly recommend!

Greater than one weekI bought Turbo Tax to file past taxes this year. the program worked well, but I had a problem with retaining the save file. I had to do my taxes twice and both times after I saved the file, upon trying to re-access the saved file there was no information to be found. I believe this may have been caused by using dated software on a updated OS. Otherwise the product work as expected.

> 3 dayThis is my first try using a tax preparation program. Everyone I know raves about how wonderful Turbo Tax is. After years of doing my taxes by hand and mailing in the return, I felt that maybe it would be less of a trial to use a program that would at least do the math for me, and I could file electronically and avoid the post office. I even had some amazon gift cards to cover the cost, so I got Turbo Tax. To be honest, I think it took me just as long to do my taxes with the program as it would have taken by hand. The electronic filing was nice, but having to pay $19.95 extra to file the state return was an unpleasant surprise. I noticed some glitches in the program. For instance, I noticed on a summary sheet that I had to pay a penalty due to slight underpayment of estimated tax. I was pretty sure this was wrong. I had to fiddle with the program to get it to actually ask me for the numbers to check this. It then said I did not owe the penalty. I had a problem with Virginia adjustments to federal AGI that took forever to figure out. Isnt the point of using this software to avoid such issues? I really found it tedious to go through all sections in the program to enter data. Couldnt they simplify this? The whole process is so divorced from the actual forms that is left me wondering if I would end up with a correct return - I think it was OK, but I did have to look through all the Turbo Tax forms created to feel this way. People who have not done taxes by hand probably would not be bothered with this issue though. All in all, I think I got my taxes done OK, but it cost me almost $100 including the state e file, and I am still a little nervous that there could be a problem hidden in innumerable forms generated. I am not sure if I will use this program next year.

> 3 dayWe have been doing our taxes with Turbo Tax for years. It is simple and easy to use, and WAY less expensive than hiring someone to do your taxes. Besides, they use tax software to do your taxes so why not cut the middle man? The only thing you have to do is gather up your information and enter it into the program when prompted. At the end, you are even given an opportunity to plan for next years taxes. I highly recommend this program!
