> 3 dayConfession: Im BRAND NEW to the scanner hobby. There, now that thats out of the way. The 536HP is an absolute TOP OF THE LINE product! After spending quite a bit of time learning how this darn thing really works, the results are pretty darn amazing. Initially I was quite frustrated at the lack of channels that I could listen to in my immediate area even though I live in a major metropolitan area. A little research helped considerably so I purchased a much better antenna, placed it outside, spent a few hours reading over the manual and watching some youtube videos and actually found some listenable local channels. Spent some more time researching and learned some of the actual features of this scanner and how they work. There are an AMAZING amount of things that can be done with this scanner. If I had to do it again, I would start by doing more research, especially about antennas and proper placement for better reception. This is an unbelievably powerful scanner that quite honestly, with the right antenna, is plug and play right out of the box. FWIW I live in an Apartment with a lot of RF interference. After putting a decent antenna outside it really opened up the reception for me. I can understand the reviews that say that this is a complicated scanner and agree to a point. Ive spent quite a few hours getting this thing to where I understand it.

> 3 dayThe BCD536HP has all the the makings of the top of the line scanner...except inexplicably Uniden fell asleep at the wheel. The units build quality is top of the line...sturdy and rich feeling. The advertised features...who could ask for more?! The problem is they dont deliver on some of the features (at least not as of yet...as I am hoping a few firmware updates down the road they will). No App and no Analyze Mode feature even though those are two of the selling points . Worst of all if you buy this unit and are not located near the hub of what you are trying to receive...you absolutely will need to buy a better antenna. This is unforgivable. How is it possible that my 1980 Bearcat 210 can pull in clear stations that just show up as noisy scratchy inaudible transmissions on the 536???! Not sure if this is a bad antenna or worse poor sensitivity internal to the scanner. Either way...think external antenna unless your transmission source is close by. One would think that shelling $600 for this would get you a decent antenna. I want to love this unit...it has the makings of a great scanner...I just cant understand why Uniden skimped on the antenna / reception sensitivity and did not deliver a product that has the advertised features working ...unbelievable! For now I just like it and hope that firmware updates will deliver what was promised and then may be I will love this after all.

> 3 dayGood scanner but as with any radio Id suggest to use an external speaker for better sound quality. I just received it so Im still learning how to use it. But so far its a good scanner. The one thing they should add to it is an ignition wire for it for when installed in car since they say not to wire it to your vehicles ignition since I could corrupt the SD card when it shuts off if you dont shut off manually first.

Greater than one weekWEVE ONLY HAD TWO SCANNERS IN OUR 50 YEARS OF MARRIAGE. THE SECOND ONE HAS NOW DIED, AFTER HAVING BEEN ON DAY AND NIGHT. THIS ONE WAS PRICEY BUT BEARCAT IS A GREAT REPUTATION AND, NOT KNOWING IF OUR CITY IS GOING DIGITAL OR NOT, WE TOOK THE JUMP. TOO TECHNICAL OF COURSE FOR US (75+ AGE), BUT WE HAD A TECKIE GUY PROGRAM IT FOR US. HERES TO ANOTHER 50 YEARS. . . . .OR THE ESTATE SALE.

> 3 dayGreat scanner. It does what the instructions states it does. Hook up antenna, plug in AC adaptor, and turn it on. It asks what the date is and enter it, what time it is, enter that, your time zone #, and enter. It will show nothing to scan. Hit the ZIP (zip code) button and enter your zip code, it will upload all frequencies within a 20-mile radius, and scan. Super easy and works great. Uniden got this one right.

> 3 dayI started off with Crystal scanners. I left off years ago at triple trunking. This scanner is awesome. Yes there is some learning curves, however Im up and running and less than one minute. Im able to get my surrounding channels I need. Set the range turn up the squelch, Im good. I will continue to update as I go along, but so far all good. Well not the fact that I got to upgrade and pay for it.,,,DMR, not that important to me. However, to others it is a big deal. The fact that it is Wi-Fi and there is an app that does work is awesome. It works. I love it. I still got to figure out how to get connection from the outside. I was going to forward the ports, but could not type in the colon at the beginning of the app you know, the IP address colon the number Port you assigned it to. Ill figure it out. Dont want to stick it out there in a DMZ.

Greater than one weekAs I expected, this was complicated scanner to set-up, but I have another one, the BC346XT which is also very complicated. You cant have a very serious and capable scanner and push one button to make it all work wonderfully. After hours of learning a new language and learning to run the software that programs the scanner, then programming the scanner, the thing works wonderfully well and is very versatile. This is NOT for the faint of heart but for serious scanner enthusiasts that dont mind learning a lot about programming, software, and the language of the receiver. However, once programmed it does some amazing things like on a certain channel you ask it to -- it will pause on it, increase the volume while there is voice, and flash any number of light colors that surround the control knob to alert you that a certain radio channel is on. It follows the new and old digital trunking system that Nashville, TN uses and handles all the agencies very well. Overall it is an excellent product. I knew it would be complicated, so should you. Go into the purchase with that in mind and you will be amazed. Do not try and program it without a computer either, not even sure it is possible.
