Greater than one weekI purchased this bcd536hp scanner due to the wifi adapter. I use proscan software with the web server and now can listen to my stream anywhere in the world. You must have proscan turned on with web server. so computer has to be on and scanner has to be on all the time. I make sure I have light on scanner turned off. I dont need that to die on me!. I use it mostly for simulcast in Central NY. I have to say it does pretty good on simulcast. I just couldnt afford the Uniden sds200. ProScan is well worth it. try it out for free for 30 days and if you like it then you pay a one time fee of 50.00

Greater than one weekThis radio is fantastic. I was looking for a good price and kept checking around and saw Amazon had this one on a scratch and dent sale, saying that it had a one inch scratch on the back and no original box for $329. So I jumped on it. It looks perfect and works perfect! Thanks Amazon!

> 3 dayHaving been a scanner enthusiast since the 80s and having owned other Unidens as well as Icom and other top flight units, it was nice that upon opening the box it was fairly apparent this was deserving of its stature of being their top of the line. All metal construction with solid feeling buttons and switchgear. Setup was literally no brainer. One simple starts by turning it on, setting the date and time, then entering a zip code. You can easily begin listening to an already present full database of frequencies in any given area around the entire country The good stuff comes when you load the FREE Sentinel software that also come pre loaded on the removable micro SD card. It provides the ability to easily program in Favorites of channels you group to listen to according to taste. I arranged all my Country Police on one, then the Fire on another, then also Business and such. Great instructions on how this is all achieved is easily watchable on Youtube so no worries on getting familiar with this unit. The sound is good, but a but on the muffled side as the speaker is on the bottom. I happen to have a great external communications speaker from years ago that I use on this and its audio is flat out superb. There is plenty of power (5 watts) off this unit so if youre serious about the sound quality it will easily drive any speaker well. Love the large rich contrast display that shows tons of info on what youre hearing. It is actually VERY intuitive to use if you have any experience using scanners. Otherwise if you dont its still easy to just use the full database and all you need to do is choose the Service or type of thing you want to listen to, such as the various headings for Police, or Utilities or City stuff. It is indeed easy regardless. The quality is most certainly there. Much better than TV to listen for hours.

Greater than one weekI purchased two of these units that were shipped via Amazon Prime (VERY FAST). They replaced two older scanners that would not receive P25 Phase II Trunked Radio Systems as our local law enforcement is all changing to a new system. I had previously purchased a BCD436HP so had already developed a basic load that would work in these radios. The reality is that these are much better than the portable - they do not seem to suffer from the VHF/UHF oscillator induced de-sense that plagues the handheld version. Their sensitivity at VHF and UHF is comparable to the GRE units that they replaced. I use one of these in my base station and one in my mobile. So far they are working GREAT!

> 3 dayIt has been almost 50 years since I owned a police scanner and man have things changed. In my first scanner, you had to add crystals for stations you wanted to receive. A later version was programmable. And now its as simple as typing in your zipcode and letting the scanner determine what channels are available in your area. I love the Uniden BCD536HP but you have to understand that these days there are a lot of frequencies that you cannot listen to anymore. One reason is that many of the state and local agencies are now using ENCRYPTED channels. These cannot be monitored with ANY public scanners. I would also suggest that you consider an external (outside) scanner antenna to increase reception.

08-06-2025This scanner took some time getting set up and programmed but man was it worth it!! Acutal call: Dispatch to officer, we have a caller on the line needing assistance with two drunk ninjas throwing beer cans at his car. Officer to dispatch, Im finishing up a call nearby and Ill be on my way. Dispatch to officer, caller has updated they are now in bandanas and playing with themselves. Officer to dispatch, send me the address and mark me in route to the drunken ninjas. Dispatch to officer, caller states they are now in a helmet and snorkels.

> 3 dayAfter reading some of the other reviews I was worried there would be issues with this scanner. I was able to take it out of the box and had it up and running within 15 minutes and didnt even need to take the manual out of the package. You basically enter your zip code and go. The antenna that was included even worked well to start. After I connected it to the antenna in my attic I was amazed with the reception on analog and digital. Analog is very clear, it must have a very sensitive receiver and excellent noise filter. The speaker works ok but is in the bottom of the unit. If you are using it on a table you need an external speaker. I use an old Motorola 2 way speaker and it is able to power it perfectly from the external speaker connection. Updating the database and firmware is also simple using the included software. Dont look for a CD or download it is included on the memory card within the unit.

> 3 dayHard to program, not knowing if its a p-25 trunk, p25x2-tdma,p25 one frequency, then if you try and program using your zip code, they said 30 miles. Well it loaded every frequency for whole state of Alaska. Now have reset scanner to blank and will start again. All digital scanners I have purchased (3) have been difficult not knowing what channels. Not as user-friendly as the older scanners.
