> 3 dayI like this police scanner. I can get calls from many miles away and close to my home. Its nice to hear all the calls and sometimes hear the outcomes of calls. It has good sound but we wanted more so we added a speaker for better sound and quality to hear in other rooms of the house too. It is hard to get the programming just the way you want it, but with persistence it is workable. It came tightly wrapped and in perfect condition. We have been listening to this radio for up to a year now and no problems. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to hear the calls digitally.

> 3 dayAmazing scanner. The most advanced scanner with the most options I have ever had. Currently I have 5 scanners and 4 of them are Uniden. The most important thing to determine before you buy this scanner is if the police, sheriff and fire departments in your community transmit an encrypted signal. This scanner or any scanner will not work for you if the signal is encrypted. In Georgia, Clayton, Henry, Fayette and Spalding Counties encrypt their signals. I live in Clayton county and the other counties I listed surround me. I am returning it. It is a heart breaker for me and my wife. We have been listening to police scanners for 20 years and now nothing will work. I guess it is more important for the police department, sheriffs department and fire departments to keep everything from the public than it is for the public to know what is happening in their community. This is a sad day for government transparency. I guess the local politicians think it is better if you do not know what is happening in your community.

Greater than one weekIt is hard to program but all it takes is time. Only used it for a few days but I needed the digital. As always it’s quite expensive for an amateur.

> 3 dayThis scanner took some time getting set up and programmed but man was it worth it!! Acutal call: Dispatch to officer, we have a caller on the line needing assistance with two drunk ninjas throwing beer cans at his car. Officer to dispatch, Im finishing up a call nearby and Ill be on my way. Dispatch to officer, caller has updated they are now in bandanas and playing with themselves. Officer to dispatch, send me the address and mark me in route to the drunken ninjas. Dispatch to officer, caller states they are now in a helmet and snorkels.

> 3 dayThis unit is so easy to set up and use. No programing on line or from anywhere else. Just use your zip code. It started loading and broadcasting in minutes from taking it out of the box. We live in the county but in a busy area, it is good to know where the accident is, fire is, which community or communities are responding. I never knew how much the police, troopers and firemen respond on a daily basis. This has been an eye opening experience. Thank you Uniden and our men/women in blue!

Greater than one weekThe BCD536HP is a one of the best radio scanners. The sound is great, easy to manually program frequencies, and the sentinel software is nice but takes a while to learn. It works just like my BCD436HP but larger display and larger keys to add frequencies. zip code programming is great. I had it scanning frequencies in less than 10 minutes. I would sure buy it again if I did not have one. I plugged it into my cigar lighter in my truck and it worked great.

> 3 dayAppreciate the unit; however sound and voices are not consistent. Varies from county to county, station

> 3 dayThis unit is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, its got fantastic build-quality. It works as it should, scans channels and lets you listen. The buttons and knobs work well. Its a quality unit. Or is it? It might be me, perhaps Im old and stupid, but I cannot, for the life of me, understand how to use the favorites system. In a web browser, youre on a page you like, and you hit a button and save it as a favorite. Later, you can go back to it. But this thing has no such button. Instead, it has an elaborate and over-complicated favorite-list system which is impossible for me to understand even after watching countless YouTube videos. The problem is you cant just say Hey, this is interesting, fave it! For goodness sake, Im a computer programmer and I *still* cant understand how to operate the user interface of this thing. Why cant I, for example, just quickly set a frequency / operation mode of my choice like I can on a regular radio? So now it sits here gathering dust instead of being used because the UI is so annoying.

> 3 dayLooking at some of these reviews, you cant tell which Uniden product the reviewer bought. Theyre all bundled together. Mine is the Uniden BCD536HP. First of all I noticed it was heavy. Dont know if thats good or bad, but I like it like that. As soon as you get it turned on, keep your finger close to the avoid key, because youll be using it a lot, until you get some of the items weeded out. This is by far Unidens top of the line scanner. It will take some getting used to, but its the best sounding, and the best overall functioning scanner Ive ever owned, and this one makes number thirteen. This police scanner hobby is kinda like chocolate, you always just want another. You can get by with just a zip code to get started, if thats what you like. but you will have to spend some quality time later with your 536, but you have all the tools with sentinel software, and the cable included in this package. If you just want to plug and play the Uniden Home Patrol is the way to go. Everything you ever wanted to know about a frequency shows up on the Home Patrol screen, but I wanted a challenge so I bought the 536. I know my way around a computer just a little, but I can read and look at you tube. There are a lot of videos that will help, and you might as well get a subscription to Radio Reference as well. Its a great help, and has tons of freqs if you need them. Spend the money, you cant take it with you. .
