> 3 dayMany reviews complain that the drive doesnt have 18T, but only 16.3T. Its both. Hard drive manufacturers give terabytes not in computer terabytes (T, 2^40 = 1099511627776 bytes each), but in SI terabytes (t, 10^12 = 1000000000000 bytes each). Thats because some hard drive manufacturer started doing that once way back, so they could make their hard drives sound like they were bigger than they were, and the consumers were fooled, so every hard drive manufacturer had to start doing it. So it really is an 18t drive, but thats only 16.37T of space. But NTFS drives cant be initialized with compression enabled if theyre bigger than 16.0T. If you initialize your whole 16.37T hard drive with NTFS, you cant enable compression, and not having compression will cost you more than 0.37T of space. So using Windows, you should shrink the partition on this hard drive to 16T before initializing it. The bottom line is that 16.37T is not a sensible partition size; its worse than having just 16T. But this drive will be fine if you repartition it to 16T, and dont mind throwing away 2% of your disk space.

Greater than one weekThis is still good storage drive and really not much to complain nor praise about for these storage drive. What I would love to know is the information mentioned by this user, LA in Dallas, mentioned in it review for 16tb external hard drive WD. One thing to mention: your computer may report the size of the disk as 14.5 TB. What that really means is that the drive capacity is 16 x 10^12 bytes, which corresponds to 14.5 x 2^40 bytes, sometimes written as 14.5 TiB. (One tibibyte, 1 TB, is 2^40 bytes.) Computers often work in powers of 2, which is why your computer may say the disk is 14.5 TB. - LA in Dallas There is not a lot of people who would go into details behind the TB number or how different it would look once connected and loaded onto the computer. I am certain those that looking for storage only look at the capacity or only come to know of the capacity and not the ins of TB and it different appearance. I would like WD and many other companies that make hard drive and external hard drive, and etc. to considered adding these information onto their product pages. Thank you.

> 3 dayIve only had this for a few weeks. Its kinda plasticy and cheap but works well for the price. I would probably buy one with a faster connection out of the drive if I had to do this again. It took about 36 hours to transfer 4.3 TB of photos from another drive. I use it as half of a raid1 to store my Lightroom photos. It replaced a two year old 8 TB WD elements drive that totally died. The other 8 TB is still working fine.

> 3 dayUsing this connected to a Asustor NAS, have lots of media and this drive is currently housing all the movies I have, works great and spins down when Im not watching something on Plex. Have loaded it up with almost 12TB of content so far and no issues, runs great. Actual formatted capacity will always be less of course, but overall this fits my needs perfectly!
