Greater than one weekNoBrainer USB3 ext drive for a MacBook Pro. I DO NOT understand some others issues formatting this drive for OS X/macOS. High Sierra, Sierra, El Cap, Yosemite - IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE... Goto Disk Utility/Partition and follow the prompts to format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). By default this will blow out the included useless WD Windows junkware on the drive. I set up 2 logical 1GB partitions, one for Time Machine, the other for Carbon Copy Cloner, both Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Cheese for the mouse, it truly gets no simpler than this...

> 3 dayI used this drive for backup and extra storage capacity. It mostly lived on my desk with less than a dozen trips from home to the office. Until recently I worked fine, now it only works sometimes and needs to be replaced. Fortunately I have a cloud backup.

> 3 dayThis is an easy to use hard drive. Simply plug it in and go. I use it as a backup to a backup drive. Daily I back up my data to another Passport hard drive and weekly I back up to this one. Yeah, I know I can use the Cloud, but I dont know who can look at my data on the Cloud. This suits me fine.

Greater than one weekThis is my second My Passport. Its easy, just plug into your computer, and thats it. I have 3 external drives (WD) i from the 90s, 1 from 20006, 1 from Christmas and they all work and have never had any problems. Ive had Maxtor and Seagate drives and had many problems. So I am staying with WD and recommend them to anyone

> 3 dayWestern Digital Passport drives have always been my go-to for a compact, no-power-chord-needed, portable storage solution with a lot of space. And most importantly, they wont cost you a fortune! I must have about 10 of these drives laying around, in different colors, across the past four generations of product. None of them have failed, and the color options help you to easily organize your projects. Buy a cheap case to go along with it, and youre all set to go!

> 3 dayNo case. Kind of portable. Capacity is more than enough for the average person. Has not failed yet.

> 3 dayI am extremely happy with my first purchase of an external portable hard drive. I was up and running in no time. Ive been able to move my pictures and videos from my laptop to the My Passport external hard drive without any problems. Ive watched videos directly from My Passport without any issues. Some of the larger files take a few more seconds to load but nothing out of the ordinary. I will definitely purchase another.

> 3 dayI purchased this product around 5 weeks ago. Within 4 weeks it was making a beeping sound. I could hear the beep and I could hear the drive spinning but none of the files could be read by my computer. After not very much research I found thousands of people with the same issue. It appears this drive has issues with its heads whatever those are. They appear to be defective. I went though the Amazon website and requested a call to fix the issue. I was connected twice to people with very thick foreign accents that I could barely understand. The first call after wasting my time with troubleshooting I knew wouldnt work the man told me he would send me a ONE TIME COURTESY REPLACEMENT. As if it was my fault WD is selling a faulty and defective item. That person hung on up me without me getting anytime of confirmation of information about the replacement so I had to call back. The second person told me the exact same thing about the one time courtesy replacement which made me mad all over again. But he did confirm a replacement was coming and when to expect it. Since I know now this item has issues what happens if I get another defective item? I suggest not buying this particular WD product.

> 3 dayThe physical size of this drive is very convenient. I like that its smaller than its higher capacity brethren. The data transfer speed on my passport drives is verifiable to be very fast, 100+ mb when transferring large amounts over USB3. The software that comes with it, although not required to use the drive, is helpful for those needing a backup application or those les familiar with using computers. The biggest issue by far with these drives is their fragility. Be careful with them! Ive had multiple my passport drives fail because of either bent needles or, much more common, broken SATA connections. This is very disappointing for a product marketed to be highly portable. Be sure to unplug the cord when not in use, keep the drive on a flat and stationary surface at all times while spinning, and purchase accident and data protection in case of failure. These would be great drives if they didnt break like china.
