I bought a couple of these drives to store and watch home movies on our TV. On some TVs ( and a blu-ray player ), this was plug and play without issues. However, on some televisions the drives did not register. I attributed it to not receiving enough power from the USB on the tv and bought an Anker usb hub with a power input. The extra juice allowed the hard drive to register and play videos on more TVs, but not all that I tested. It works fine on computers without any problems, but If you are considering buying one of these, make sure it works on the device you are buying it for.

This is my second My Passport. Its easy, just plug into your computer, and thats it. I have 3 external drives (WD) i from the 90s, 1 from 20006, 1 from Christmas and they all work and have never had any problems. Ive had Maxtor and Seagate drives and had many problems. So I am staying with WD and recommend them to anyone

Bought it for the password protection capability, which works really well. The write speed is not consistent and slower than other external hard drives I have used before.

I find the design of the WD Passport to be well done. While its basically a rectangle, all of the models are the same width, This leads to ease of stacking. Im currently looking at approx. 20 in various storage sizes. They also come in a variety of colours, which makes organizing your data by types easy (I gave up on that idea because of buying the cheapest colours on sale). The downside is that the drive itself is integrated into the control card. In other words, if the USB connection fails, then you cant just pop the drive out of the enclosure and and put it in another box. While I have yet to face this issue, I can see it become a problem after repeated use as the USB connector develops wiggle room.

This little pocket style drive is about as good as these get. It is simple to use. Plug and Play. Any method for copying or loading files to a hard drive works well. I do have one little thing that bothers me but it may be software/system related. If I am copying a lot of folders that contain many files, the data transfer rate slows down. I have found tat the drive is fastest when transferring large files and very few folders.70 MB/sec avg. transfer speed. I play large 1080P video files straight from this drive without a single issue. For 2 TB of storage for such a low cost, I had to give this drive an overall 5 stars. I have dealt with Western Digital one time on a broken drive under warranty. They treat customers very well and do whatever they can to keep you happy. I phoned them, reported the issue and had a new drive within a few days.

I was able to successfully partition this HDD for Windows back ups and Mac back ups so now my data is backed up cross platform. I didnt have any problem using this on macOS just use disk utility to reformat it. Its possible to have different formats for different partitions of the same external HDD like I did for Windows and Mac simultaneously.

it toke forever to figure out how to load my stuff into it!!! still, i have no patience to try and figure out all its features, only by trying i figured out how to add files, i still am not sure if i did it correctly. they is no instruction, i went on youtube and didnt find a much helpful video there. i loved the 1st one i owned by the same company, but after 3-4 years its failing to evn open. all my saved important files in it are still to be transferred to this new WD. i just hope i can do it since it fails to open and load my stuff.

Love the computer, it was delivered really fast and in perfect conditions. The RAM really makes this the fastest computer i ever used and its really perfect for my work.

The physical size of this drive is very convenient. I like that its smaller than its higher capacity brethren. The data transfer speed on my passport drives is verifiable to be very fast, 100+ mb when transferring large amounts over USB3. The software that comes with it, although not required to use the drive, is helpful for those needing a backup application or those les familiar with using computers. The biggest issue by far with these drives is their fragility. Be careful with them! Ive had multiple my passport drives fail because of either bent needles or, much more common, broken SATA connections. This is very disappointing for a product marketed to be highly portable. Be sure to unplug the cord when not in use, keep the drive on a flat and stationary surface at all times while spinning, and purchase accident and data protection in case of failure. These would be great drives if they didnt break like china.

My Passport is the trusted, portable storage that perfectly complements your on-the-go lifestyle. Designed to fit in the palm of your hand, there’s plenty of space to store a massive amount of photos, videos, music and documents. Perfectly paired with WD Backup software and password protection, the My Passport drive helps keep your files safe.
