Really didnt think Id need additional storage but yeah, that day arrived. After deleting a few games I knew I had a problem. Didnt know the cure would be this simply or cheap. Plugged it in and within minutes I was transfering games from the internal drive over to this one. Ive got tons of room now and couldnt be happier!

it toke forever to figure out how to load my stuff into it!!! still, i have no patience to try and figure out all its features, only by trying i figured out how to add files, i still am not sure if i did it correctly. they is no instruction, i went on youtube and didnt find a much helpful video there. i loved the 1st one i owned by the same company, but after 3-4 years its failing to evn open. all my saved important files in it are still to be transferred to this new WD. i just hope i can do it since it fails to open and load my stuff.

This Hard Drive is a nice piece of equipment. I purchased it for the price. Although many had said theyve had no problems with theirs, I did. At first, I got it to work on one laptop that used Windows 8.1. It wouldnt work on other laptop that used Windows 10. My tech guy had to show me how to assign it a drive letter. But Ive had to do that every time I plugged it in. This is the only reason Im giving it 3 stars... I wanted something much easier to work with.

This is a great buy for casual gamers, especially those who have just enough games but not enough space on the standard console. I use this in combination with a standard PS4. It is very easy to set up for storage and contains enough space (2TB) to keep you happily gaming (and saving) for awhile.

Dont buy this if you are a Mac user and not super tech-savvy. I bought this thinking that it would be compatible with my Mac (since it came up on a search for external hard drives for Macs...), but I guess I should have read the fine print better. When I plugged it into my computer Timeline said that it wasnt compatible. I tried to reformat the hard drive for my Mac using Disk Utility and directions that I found online but I wasnt able to because I kept getting an error message saying that the external hard drive was in use, even though ALL other programs were closed and I couldnt find anything that could be using it (even after disabling spotlight)... I gave up and figured Id just return it, but then I couldnt eject it from my computer either because it said that it was still in use. After consulting online for a long time, I saw that a lot of other people have this same problem. I had to turn off my computer to take out the hard drive. No way do I want to keep a hard drive that I have turn off my computer every time to eject.

NoBrainer USB3 ext drive for a MacBook Pro. I DO NOT understand some others issues formatting this drive for OS X/macOS. High Sierra, Sierra, El Cap, Yosemite - IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE... Goto Disk Utility/Partition and follow the prompts to format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). By default this will blow out the included useless WD Windows junkware on the drive. I set up 2 logical 1GB partitions, one for Time Machine, the other for Carbon Copy Cloner, both Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Cheese for the mouse, it truly gets no simpler than this...

Im editing my last review about the speed of the product. However, the rest remains an issue. The box says the contents include a quick install guide and software. Not there. Went on line and the brand isnt listed on WD site, but there are numerous blank squares (where a photo might appear but wont open) that you can click and find out what they are. Clicked though them and found the product. But the Quick Installation on the menu just comes up with a cover page and an address for the support site. Went to the user manual, and the instructions were sketchy. Lots of false starts trying to get program going. Finally called support #. Good news is that I got a real person right away and the support guy steadily worked the problem for a 1/2 hour, trying all sorts of methods, and eventually got it working. When I first tried the back-up, it was only 5% backed-up after 4 hours. I then figured out that it wont back up once the computer goes into sleep mode. So you need to be at your computer doing other stuff for it to back-up. Which means that it wouldnt back up at night when I would want it to automatically do that.

I tried other makes before being advised by a knowledgeable friend to forget about the others and just get a WD. Lo and behold. I plugged this beautiful baby into my phone which immediately recognized it (unlike the others) and asked if I wanted to configure it. I concurred and ... bingo. No instructions and computer connection needed. My only complaint is that it does not appear to have a safe means of ejecting it after use. I called WD about this and was informed that the discrepancy came about because the unit wasnt really designed for use on anything but a computer and that to safely eject I should shut off the phone before disconnecting. No biggie. Easy peasy. Its been a love affair from the time i plugged it into my SG S8 and saw that it was a match made in heaven. Its even more fun to plug them both into my laptop and start transferring and copying files from one to another. So cool.

I would keep the WD Passport on your desk. Mine survived several falls, but considering it has moving parts, it could only take so many hits before breaking. This is my own fault, and I own up to my mistakes. Its a great drive for a great price. I recommend being careful with it for the sake of its longevity. After all, no hard drive is immune to falls.

I bought two of these WD Passports. One was to replace my old WD 500 Gig external hard drive. The other I bought to attach to my Playstation 4 for external storage. No instructions were included in the box so had to go to website to download the software to install and configure. My only complaint. The second one for my Playstation 4 was even easier to connect and format. I can now not have to delete old games due to storage needs! Highly recommend!
