what is your priority ? if money is it, this price is good for 500 GB. do you need FAST ? this is a tricycle, samsung 850 is a Harley1200, SAMSUNG 960 M.2 is a missile. whats your workload, how fast do you need to go & how much can you afford to get there? SAMSUNG 960 M.2 NVME is my OS & DAW choice samsung 850 is my secondary programs & Main Libraries choice this is my Secondary Libraries & good working storage choice a 7200 rpm Hybrid HDD usb3.1 is my archive choice its your money, how fast do YOU need to go?? & how much time do you have to get there ? this is great for fun & games; but a fast all day workhorse over a long hard haul ? whats your priority?

In recent years I have tried several different brands of SSDs, and I think this is the best one yet. On my newest Windows 7 computer (refurbished HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF PC) I try as much as possible to keep my data (that changes quite often) on the D: drive, so my C: drive (the WD SSD) remains as lean as ever may be. I also carefully monitor which programs and services start up automatically with Windows. As currently configured, the C: drive has a total of 57GB occupied of the reported 232GB available. When I restart my computer, it is back up and ready to go in about 50 seconds from the time I initiate the restart. That kind of performance, and my years of happy experience with WD products, give me confidence that this WD SSD will prove to be a very worthwhile investment.

Im getting an average of only 166.4 MB/s out of this drive right now, however I put it into an aged Gateway NV44 that uses DDR2 PC6400, with a slower SATA 3Gb/s header & a T4300 processor that is not a power house. Start times are much faster, making for a more responsive system despite the older interfaces & slower memory.

I initially ordered a Crucial 525MX300 SSD and had nothing but problems trying to clone my W10 drive. The WD website gives you Acronis software which actually works and has several links to read for any problem you might be having. There is nothing in the box that tells you they provide the software free, so go to the WD support website. The WD support site has docs that walk you step by step through the cloning process. I spent 8 hours trying to get the Crucial to work with the Acronis 2014 software they link you to and somehow messed up my system to where I had blue screens and problems on my old drive and had to reset Windows 10 and do a fresh install on my old drive (lucky I made a back up and restore USB drive before all this). The WD drive took 30 minutes and I was cloned and running.

What do you say about a hard drive? It works or it doesnt. This drive went into my new computer build as my system drive and has performed perfectly. My system boots and loads very quickly. I bought Western Digital for 3 reasons - their reputation, past experience with WD drives and their warranty. The WD SSD Dashboard software gives detailed information about the status of your drive and lots of additional information. I always recommend Western Digital drives because of their reliability.

This is a product of WDs acquisition of SanDisk. Overall, this is a great mainstream SSD. While there are slightly faster ones to be had for quite a bit more money in everyday use for most people you wouldnt be able to tell the difference. Still a massive improvement over a rotating mechanical hard drive - this made my ThinkPad T430 go from a total dog (yay 5400RPM laptop hard drives) to nearly as fast as my Core i7 gaming/workstation laptop. So far this SSD has handled everything Ive thrown at it just fine - everything from simple stuff like browsing the internet to heavy virtualization workloads! Would recommend.

Did a fresh install of win10 on my old trusty laptop that was taking upwards of 20 mins from power on to usable on this drive. It now starts up super fast, is usable in less than 2 minutes, and has restored life to my laptop so I can continue to use it. Highly recommend.

This easily installed in my laptop. if your laptop has an NVMe M.2 port, Id use something else. But if your M.2 port is only SATA 3, this works very good. My read speeds were 545MB/s and read was 508MB/s. Overall I am happy with this, but I was disappointed that the drive only had 931 free GB.

This SSD is connected to an older motherboard with SATA 2, this will give only about 60 % of the possible speed increase. However, still more speedy then my normal hard drive. Cloned the OS, but does not work as booth device because of apparently corrupted files. Maybe will do a clean re-install of Windows 10. For now I use it to store games who benefits from faster loading times and smoother game play. Installation is simple after purchasing an adapter for an 3.5 disk bay. Currently prices are still too high for SSDs. I assume they will come down more over time.

I purchased this for my HP Pavilion so I could put my operating system on it. The software recommended to copy the operating system over didnt work and ultimately I had to erase my my original hard drive, install the operating system on the SSD, and reinstall all my other program on whichever drive I wanted. Start up is now is about 30 seconds or less. Working well after a month.
