I bought this WD Black SN850 SSD for my PS5 during Prime Days. I have one tiny complaint, which is why Im not giving it 5 stars. This SSD has a built-in RGB LED under the heatsink (circled in the pic) that, if used on a PC, can change colors. If used on the PS5 it flashes a default yellowish orange and it cant be changed. I left the cover plate off to help with airflow/cooling. The flashing LED is noticeable behind the translucent black plates I put on my PS5. I could put the cover back on, but testing by reliable sources shows installing the cover increases the temperature of the SSD by 5°C. I wish there was a way WD and SONY (considering this is the first ever official SONY licensed SSD) could incorporate the WD dashboard on PS5 to allow us to change the color of the LED, or at the very least, disable the LED altogether.

I am upgrading from a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB to the WD SN850X 1TB and my Samsung 980 Pro was hitting 6841/5005 on Crystaldiskmark and the WD SN850X got me 7315/6379. the pictures above show my samsung 980 pro compared to the sn850x and as you can see the sn850x blows it away

All I wanted was to upgrade my SSD to something that could saturate my PCIE Gen 3x4. Scored this for on prime day advertised as being compatible but did not work in my system at all. Found out it only supports Gen 3x2 and even tried forcing Gen 2 x4 which it claims to support and that didnt work either. Tried it in another PC (not mine, dunno specs) and it worked at 3x2 but at those speeds, why bother... I like WD products but am very disappointed in this one.

Very easy install into a PlayStation 5. The video provided was very clear but you can also watch the video on the PlayStation website. MAKE SURE YOU BUY WITH HEAT SYNC!! I almost bought it without a heat sync and it is the most important addition!!

WD BLACK 580 M.2 2TB is a 2nd recommended SSD for the ps5 upgrade, if the firecuda is out of your price range or unavailable, Easy to install and format, fast game transfer to give you more space on the harddrive, way above the standard Sony recommended writing speed with a 7000MB, give you plenty of space for more games.

Worked great in my PS5. Easy to install.
