You cant fail with a proven classic. I have had so much enjoyment out of this console. Although this is my second, each has a 2-4 year lifespan and free games included with Xbox Live Gold.

Ive been wanting an Xbox of my own for a while now, and finally picked this up on a promotional deal. I mostly wanted the Kinect to play Dance Central; all those videos on YouTube looked like a whole lot of fun. First, the console: Its got a reasonably slim profile and fits on my very small TV stand with no trouble. The power supply is slightly less huge than that of a regular Xbox, but still fairly absurd. Setup is easy, being more or less plug and play. This console does NOT come with an HDMI cable. I swiped the one from my cable box and just switch it back and forth, which is easy enough. The power and eject buttons make me feel kind of like I am truly living in a new age of wonder, which probably means Im getting old. You dont have to push them, just sort of wave your fingers in their area and voila! Cool as heck, but also kind of annoying when you manage to accidentally eject the game disc in the middle of something you havent saved in a while. Pro tip: Try to position the buttons so your cat cant sit next to them and you may avoid this problem. Its not quite as loud as the older model Xbox my husband has, but its not quiet, either. One fairly serious annoyance: It cannot share hard drives with the older models. And some older Xbox games (Im looking at you, DA:O) refuse to run their downloadable content without an OEM hard drive. You can use USB flash memory for most things, but no matter how much you have available, the older games just wont recognize it. I was hoping to be able to use a drive we already had but (1) it doesnt fit on the new model by default and (2) hooking up the USB transfer cable doesnt work, either. DA:O will not be fooled. This seems like a totally unnecessary lack of backwards compatibility, and Im irked that I will have to buy a new (and more expensive) hard drive solely to play the DLC for older games -- since its not like I need it for anything else. The Kinect: Very easy to set up. It does require a reasonably large open space, and if you have stuff you were hoping it wouldnt notice on the edge of the area, forget it. Move it, or you might spend some time convinced that the left side of your body is incapable of moving correctly before you realize that the Kinect is just picking up the printer sitting there. And its really, really neat. Providing you do have a clear area, it does a great job of tracking your movements. It responds to some voice commands, and the complete lack of controller is sort of insane. It has a red light that kind of reminds me of HAL as it tracks to find the best position. I havent had this for very long, so I cant speak to its durability, but its been a lot of fun to own so far. The Kinect is almost too cool for words, in and of itself.

The Kinnect brings video gaming to a whole new experience. It is a blast and a good workout too!

I am a long time PC Gamer, keyboard and mouse. Never used a controller. It is somewhat of a learning curve being a southpaw and an old dog (64 years old) but Im getting there. Now with Netflix and ESPN and more to come, the xbox has found a home with me.

I bought the xbox with the intention of letting playing games with my 7 and 10 year old and Netflix online access for me. We are having lots of fun playing the games and I would recommend the xbox. Be advised you need to pay for xbox live each month just to access your Netflix account you are already paying for. My kids are yong enough they dont do online games. Any basic bluray player does this for free! So if your like me and dont need the other features of xbox live then be prepaired to pay to access netflix. I think its cheesy of microsoft.
