Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer

easy set up, easy use- scans, copies and prints pretty well. Not bad at all for the price. It does use a fair amount of ink but thats about par for the course for an inkjet.

The printer does as advertised. I mostly use it to print papers for school. I try my best not to print anything else because the cost of the ink is crazy. The only reason I did not give this printer 5 stars is because it uses ink pretty fast. I got this printer May 2009 and I have not had any issues. I use the printer, copier and scanner. They all work well and it is easy to use. Its pretty self explanatory. I hooked it up with a random usb cord I had on hand. The printer does not come with a cord so if you decide to get the printer, then remember to buy a cord to attach it to your computer. ************************************************** I am updating my review Jan 23 2015. I have had this printer for about 6 years and I am still in school. Now full time instead of part time. I have been using it mostly for scanning documents for class more than printing in the past 2 years. I only find myself printing items to return rental textbooks, or return faulty merchandise, also to print coupons once in awhile. However, if your print head is not recognized then you cannot do anything not even scan with the printer. My copier worked fine with the canon ink and then it started giving an error saying B200 printer error see manual. There is nothing in the manual but I went on Google and none of the resolutions worked for me. The last resolution was to unplug the printer for 24 hours, I did that and now there is an error saying U051 print head is not installed, install print head. The same print heads are in the printer. I opened new ink and put it in the printer and it still did not work. That is $40 worth of new ink that will be thrown in the trash. I am getting an HP printer. I am finished with Canon because this is the second printer that stopped working for weird reasons. I gave the printer 2 stars for lasting 6 years. Also to get the a new print cartridge that cost $125. In other words, I will use that money for a printer instead. I going with HP because the cost of ink is half the price. I needed a cheap photo printer to make prints for my photography portfolio--this fit the bill wonderfully. I wasnt particularly expecting quality, but the details quite nice, even just from jpegs. Mine came with a free pack of Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II 4x6 (might be in description, but I wasnt expecting it... nice surprise :-) which prints well and feels nice. Well see how long the ink lasts, but note that there is an extended (XL) version of the black ink for 25% more than the regular ink, which apparently lasts much longer. If theres no update, you can assume that Im happy with ink longevity. The LCD is a bit small, but its nice to be able to print directly from SD cards. Note that I cant find a way to print documents from the USB stick, which would be really nice. I havent tried it with pictures, because Ill never use it for that. No cable included. I had an ugly offwhite one laying around--my printer mailed BEFORE the cable. Crazy fast shipping from amazon. No full length paper tray, theres a flip open holder, but if you print a lot dont leave it sitting by itself. Im only using it to print 5 large pages at a time tops, so its not an issue for me. 4x6s wont fall or flop. Overall, really nice. I wouldve preferred a gloss black, silver/black, grey/black, or solid grey or silver. The colors more like a dull white/black. Doesnt look bad, but I cant imagine it goes well with much. Edit: I didnt actually end up using the printer extensively until this week, Ive printed about 40-50 color 4x6s from a recent trip to D.C. It looks like its been reduced to somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 ink on the photo ink cartridge (though, a good half of the scenes I printed were very dark of the monuments at night, so that may skew the typical results a bit). Im thinking I should get at least 80 and possibly up to 100 4x6s per color cartridge. Ive only printed a couple of pages of black print, and its still at full, so I cant say how long it lasts yet, unfortunately.

This is a compact all-in-one printer (about the length and width of a laptop). The software and flip up screen are very easy to use and the color quality of the copier is excellent. It also has a quiet mode for printing after dark. It uses a large deal of ink, but so do all of the Canon inkjet printers. Overall, a good value, but they forgot one thing. There is no auto power-on/off setting, so you either have to leave the printer on all the time or turn it on every time you wish to use it.

It is too soon to evaluate this printers endurance. I use it infrequently. So far it has provided excellent results. It is slow in set up, and the series of movements involved in set up produce odd, star-wars-robot type sounds which still surprise me. But it prints efficiently, is easy to use, and is, so far, reliable.

This is a wonderful printer for the price. It has a stand alone feature where you can use your memory card from a digital camera and print without being connected to your PC. The entire system workes great with Windows Vista, which is a plus. The ink cartridges are the easiest to install of any printer that I have had. I really had to have a preview window screen and could not find another printer with all these features at anywhere near this price.

I brought this printer from someone who owned it for a few months. This printer is durable. My printer survived being dropped a few times, moved to storage for a year, and then being used for a year after that. However, the computer connection piece broke forcing me to buy a new printer. I can still use the printer as a scanner and copy machine though...

I like my printer very much. The quality of print is great and color is excellent. It does a good job on envelopes including feeding multiple envelopes. It does seem to use a lot of ink, but I guess thats the price you pay for the quality printing.

Canons PIXMA MP480 all-in-one printer has a very nice presence. It is very sleek with many preference options; it is very user-friendly and easy to install. You must buy a USB cable; it does not come with the printer. Pros: The scanner and copier are good quality and have many options for professional images. The printer comes with useful software and free paper samples. The print quality is good (you must set the printer options correctly and use the right paper). The printer is very quick to respond and prints full coverage pages quickly. Cons: Ink: It will cost at least $40 to replace the ink for both the color and the black cartridges. (The ink lasts an average number of prints as compared to competitive printers.) There are only two cartridges, black and color, instead of the color-efficient 3 CMY cartridges. Durability: The printer is reasonably priced, but do not expect a heavy-duty printer at this cost. You will get what you are paying for. The shell of the printer is flimsy. It is made out of plastic. Overall, you will be pleased with this purchase and will be impressed with the quality of this deal!

Received the printer on time. Set up was easy and compatable with Windows Vista. The printer itself is slow starting on B&W & color copies.Scanning a item or picture is a little more challenging. The software could be more computer friendly for seniors. Overall very happy with printer and Amazon. Will continue to shop regularly....
