Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer

First off, this printer has met all my needs. I am a poor college student who needs an all in one printer but cant afford those crazy $300-400 dollar printers. This MP-480 fulfills all of my expectations and is great! Here were my printer criteria. 1) scanner to scan pictures and trading cards to sell on ebay, 2) color printer and copier because the library doesnt have color printers (I need color copies for projects and papers that involve pictures) and copier to make those emergency copies when I dont have time to go to the library, 3) something not too big. The MP480 fills all those needs. First it looks very stylish and folds up very nicely to prevent dust from getting into anywhere. And, it makes great photocopies, good enough scans of pictures and trading cards, and prints like a charm. Basically if you run a home office, this printer isnt for you because its kind of slow when making copies and runs out of ink quickly. Pros; Very easy to install cartridge (unlike my former HP deskjet .. hated installing cartridge.. believe it or not would take an hour sometimes), compact and nice design (basically is like a box when all folded up to make easy to carry and store), all in one printer, lcd screen is very simple to operate and not complicated, paper adjusting mechanism installed on paper tray that makes it so easy to print photos, $50 rebate when order from B+H, The only cons: doesnt come with printer cable, scanner quality is about average, is loud when printing, not wireless, and toner goes out quickly. For the toner issue when you buy the replacement cartridge in XL I heard that the ink lasts so much longer. You should opt for that if you end up purchasing this printer. Hey, but in the end this printer I would highly recommend to any college student! All those cons was after about a 1/2 month of usage is because I am very picky. But really, I have no right to complain because I payed $80 for all these things. One printer, copier, or color copier alone cost that much money. And with the proposed $50 rebate that BH promised me, I basically will pay $30 for this printer!!! after the rebate comes from BH. I have yet to receive the $50 rebate, but B+H has a very good record and I trust that they will deliver on their promise

Overall, this is an incredible piece of technology for the price. Its an excellent scanner, and a *generally* very high quality printer and copier. The interface is adequate, if not incredibly convenient, and the ability to read directly from a variety of cards is very useful. There is only one weakness of this printer, and that is the fact that photographs can tend to streak towards the end of the print. This is pretty common with ink jet printers, and unfortunately this one is no different. Its only apparent in photographs with large areas of the same tone, and it doesnt always happen--its a function of random partial clogging of the jets--but you should be aware that youre not going to get the kind of quality out of this that youll get from having photos printed professionally. (In fact, its usually cheaper to do so.) However, for the occasionally instant gratification photo printing, you cant beat this printer and the price.

I purchased this to replace a Lexmark all-in-one and I couldnt be happier. The quality of photos and everyday printing is very sharp. The only drawback is a warm up period when first turned on, but after that all flows well.

I purchased this printer at a different retailer. I have had this printer for over a month and so far I have no problems with it. I really like this printer. It prints quickly and I dont have to feed one paper at a time. The only thing I can say that I dont like about it is that it uses ink up pretty quickly.

easy set up, easy use- scans, copies and prints pretty well. Not bad at all for the price. It does use a fair amount of ink but thats about par for the course for an inkjet.

Giving me an error code telling me ink overflow is filled, disabling printer. Call to Canon support informs me no replacement part is available, cannot be replaced or emptied at home. Gave me a local authorized repair place that wanted close to the purchase price to repair it. No reset code is available to reset the unit. Their solution...well offer you a lower cost printer at a 10% discount. Not the fault of the support people, but in poor design. Very poor design, making an otherwise fine printer obsolete, forcing me to buy a new printer.

I was one of the lucky ones who received this printer for free as part of a student deal at the Apple store where when you buy a laptop, you get a printer and iPod Touch for free. Best freebie ever. This has become one of my favorite printers and its been very reliable for me the past 5 years as an undergrad. Super fast at printing stuff so for someone who sometimes had to rush to get to class, it never failed me. As an artist, it scans and prints my pieces in pretty decent quality especially when printing from Photoshop. Good enough for what I need anyway. Also seems to be pretty conservative with ink since it took half a year with printing tons of stuff each day until I had to replace the ink cartridges. Even when it was on low ink, still was able to print out a couple of densely word packed, 50 page essays without an issue. Love this printer and its been working well with all my operating systems and Ive upgraded them at least 3 times so I have 3 different versions in the whole house and it works well with each of them without any bugs. Even after all these years, I still have it on my desk and hope it lasts me for at least another few when i have to go to grad school. Also we have an Epson and HP printers in the house that belong to my parents and they never were as reliable for me anyway as this one.

The Canon MP 480 multifunction printer, copier, scanner is a great machine for the money. Very dependable machine.
