My little sister loved this game. It was extremely easy to learn and was really fun, we spent about 3 hours playing it.

Cascades is a beautiful looking game with high quality components, clearly written rules, and enjoyable play. Took it to a church game night. They players caught on to the rules quickly. They so thoroughly enjoyed it we were asked to bring it back next time. My wife and I have played it a couple times ourselves. It plays equally well with two and four players. I have tried the solo version and it was enjoyable, too. The game is played in 20 quick turns and even with four players we finished games in about an hour. Two of us usually finish in about 45 minutes. The playing surface is just beautiful with all the tiles and animal counters laid out. Players complete their own ecosystem but there is interactive competition because the habitat tiles come from a turn-to-turn limited (but constantly changing) common pool.

This is a great game that offers so much variety everytime you play it. There are also a lot of suggestions for different goals to accomplish and different varieties of play. There is also a simpler playing style for younger kids or for those who just want a simpler game. It is also a great solo game. I have really enjoyed trying to accomplish the different achievements. I would recommend this game for anyone who loves games. I would recommend this as a great solo game.

We love Catan and Wingspan... this is a mix of the two. Love that there are a set number of turns per game so it doesnt go on forever like some games. it is different every time and a mix of offense, defense and just luck of the draw.

Great game with unique theme. Everyone loves it and we play it often. The margin between victory and loss is usually very small, as everyone has gotten good at the game. So we play it more for the joy of the game and the time together than we do trying to dominate the win. But winning is still nice.

I tend to lean toward the heavier side of strategy games, things like Everdell, Terra Mystica, Castles of Burgundy, and Voyages of Marco Polo. However, sometimes you just want a fun, easy to play game that has just enough strategy to keep you interested, without jarring the sensibilities of the less hardcore players. In the past, Splendor was my go-to game of this kind, but I am ecstatic to add Cascadia into the mix. Its a fantastic blend of fast, easy to learn playability, with just enough strategy to keep things interesting. The core strategies are simple -- form an arrangement of animals in a pattern to score points, while attempting to match (as best as possible) the terrain types to maximize bonus scoring. The minor mechanic that lets you alter the basic tile/animal selection (the pine cone bonus tiles) is just perfect for adding a little bit more strategy without radically altering the core. Our family loves it. My 9 and 11 year-olds enjoy the theme with the wildlife and animals, and the overall strategy is clear to them (even if they are still learning the nuances). The parts are well made; the terrain tiles and animal tokens are a nice, thick cardstock. The bag, box, and storage are compact and easy to manage. I suspect over time this will be a game ripe for expansions, as I can see perhaps after 25+ plays that you might want more variety in animals, terrain, and scoring options. But even out of the box youre getting a fantastic game at a very good price, one thats absolutely worth having in your collection.

The game rules are very easy to learn, you can start playing right away. At the same time mastering the strategy is not so simple -- there are multiple ways to earn points, which makes the game great and very repayable. Do you go after patterns, all of them or just one? Or would you rather try to get points by building the nicest terrain, or maybe all of the above? Like almost any game there is an element of luck, but it is not overwhelming or annoying. The art and production quality is high quality and if you are outdoorsy, the theme will give you additional gaming pleasure.

This game has the best of both worlds, it is easy to learn/teach. But is also good for gamers because it involves strategy.

Some competitive board games can feel mean when youre actively playing against other people. This one is a more chill experience where youre mostly focused on your own turns and thinking about what youre going to do next, less about what the other players are doing. Very enjoyable for board game geeks and casual players alike.
