> 3 dayEveryone has at one time or another seen the little packets that have the words “Do Not Eat” printed on them. They are typically the size of a sugar packet and included in plastic bags or boxes that house delicate electronic gear and the like. The purpose of these packets is to absorb moisture from the air surrounding the packaged device and to improve its survivability while awaiting sale and transport. These packets are called “desiccant packets” and contain silica gel as tiny, clear beads. They’re considered by many to be a single use item and thrown away once removed from the shipping packaging. Well, even after absorbing moisture the silica gel beads in the packets can be ‘recharged’ buy using a low heat soak and then used again. But who bothers to keep them and what other possible use could the packets have? I have a use, multiplied, and of course never saved my *free* desiccant packs! The process of using a special pigmented powder to coat metal parts rather than the traditional liquid paint is something I’m doing now and the nature of this powder requires that it stays very dry. As received the powder paint flows extremely well because it’s packaged dry and every time a container of powder is opened there is atmospheric moisture ready to sneak in and cause clumping. My purpose for buying these silica gel packs is to place one or two in each container of powder and preserve that ‘factory fresh’ flowing quality that’s needed for smooth and consistent application of this special material. The use of the packets is preventative, not generally a fix for an already deteriorated situation but I do have one case where I may be able to see a desiccant pack (X2) at work. One ‘economy’ powder coating is slightly clumpy and I’m assuming it’s due to excess moisture. I placed two 2gm packets in that container immediately after receiving my desiccant shipment. If the powder container is sealed securely I’m expecting an improvement in the flow and consistency of that powder. Using these desiccant packets can only help, and that’s my expectation.

> 3 dayI used to have a subscription for this, everything had always been fine, but the last one was AT LEAST 3 times lighter than the previous times. The package though still says 2g x200 which is wrong. So I just cancelled my subscription. TIP: sort reviews by most recent first to see if others start having the same problem.
