This surge suppressor requires an additional 50A, 2-pole breaker to be installed in your electrical panel. The breaker is NOT included so add $15-$20 to the parts cost. Adding the breaker in the recommended location required me to move 10 other breakers. Its worth noting that some reviews describe the the best mounting location as just below the main disconnect. That is NOT the official instructions. Eaton recommends making the SDP wires as short as possible. Ideally, you would mount this to the side of the panel and no lower than the bottom of the neutral bar. This is the only way to make all (4) wires as short as possible. Bottom line, if you are not comfortable with electrical work, hiring an electrician is recommended. Obviously, hiring a professional will add significantly to the overall cost. However, the whole-house protection is worth it.

Eaton brochure specifies outdoor or indoor installation. For full capability, connect to double 50 amp breaker. $13 for siemens breaker to put in GE panel. Easy install. Not clearly stated, seems to shunt @ 600 VP. That is low enough to protect all I own.

This is a good product that would have garnered 5 stars but for the lack of wire length. The hot wires are not long enough to reach even the first breaker if installed in the top or bottom of a panel. I had to add pigtails to reach the breakers. The neutral and ground are sufficient. A few more inches of wire wont break the bank people and sure would make the installation easier.
