Each one of these little clothes come sealed in a plastic bag keeping it fresh. The cheesecloth material is pre-soaked in a shellac type liquid that is tacky (I guess that’s why they are called “tack clothes”) that sticks to all the fine particles of dust left behind after sanding and brushing off and even vacuuming. Each cloth is folded to about a 6 inch square that can be unfolded multiple times to about an 18 inch square. After each unfolding it’s newly fresh surface can be used to collect the dust off your workpiece until it is covered in dust; and then turn over and/or unfold again and repeat the process. When finished the cloth can be put back into the plastic bag (if you have carefully opened it) for use again later … until it will no longer pick up dust. Then, for safety, toss it into a fireproof container so that any spontaneous combustion does not occur. These pre-made tack clothes are not inexpensive, but they are very time saving and convenient. I’m glad to have them available to use.

I have been refinishing my shutters sanding them down and staining them. These tack cloths have been working really well. They come individually wrapped. The size of each cloth is decent. I have been sanding four sets of large shutters and have so far only used one for the job so these last. I start with the shop vacuum and then final cleanup with one of these. These are sturdy and dont fall apart as you are wiping. Overall these work much better than a plain shop rag for surface preparation for painting.

Tack cloths like these are really useful for prepping a surface for paint, stain, or other finishes, by removing residual dust first. I like how these come with a large number of individual cloths, and that they are each individually wrapped. They are a good size and will come in handy. The material is like a sticky cheesecloth type fabric. I will add a photo here so you can see the material. I like it.

We used a couple of these tack cloths for prepping the walls in my daughters house. THey just moved in and the former owners had 4 cats and 2 dogs and there was hair EVERYWHERE. We vacuumed and dusted and scrubbed and vacuumed again and we were still finding hair on the walls. We wiped them down with these and probably captured 99.9% of the hair. They work amazing and are long lasting. We cleaned 10 rooms and hallways with only 4 clothes (we each had one). The painting went without a hairy hitch. I will use these anytime I have to paint walls in the future.

Tack cloths are not a new technology. They arent mysterious and Id think most folks that do painting or finishing are familiar with them. They can be rather expensive per cloth for what they are though. These tack cloths are well below what I can find them for locally on a per piece basis, and of better than average quality to boot. They are slightly larger, and slightly tackier without being so sticky as to want to grab and stick to the surface of my project while gently wiping it down just prior to painting. Once it grabs onto the dust or whatever it doesnt let it go. If I am careful to fold the cloth so a new surface is exposed every so often I find I can use one cloth for a very large area or project or re-use the same cloth several times. The individual wrapping is perfect for me as a someone who does a fair bit of painting work but only in occasional bursts since Im a home mechanic and DIY guy. This means they dont dry out or get contaminated and fouled while waiting to be used. All things considered, I recommend these!

These do a good job with prep work. Gets all the excess lint of right before paint. Good to have around the garage.

Good tack cloth. Picks up the dust, doesnt leave residue.
