I buy this filter primarily to control the dirty socks order we sometimes get from our furnace & A/C. It does the best job of controlling that smell of anything weve tried.

Filters seen too work pretty well, have 2 cats and things can get a little hairy but these filters have helped drastically cut down dust and hair buildup, and even though we all know the litterbox can stink these help keep the house smelling neutral also. I generally change the filter once every 2 months or so and it works out very well for the price. I kind of wanted the more expensive ones to try but you also have to remember that the more protection it offers, the less air will be flowing through usually, these offer good airflow though. Definitely worthwhile over the cheaper filters, after all since we are mid-covid and spending a lot of time at home it is good to breathe good quality air.

This is a very good filter, but after one month of use, I dont notice a difference compared to the Filtrete 1900 filter. Since I purchased my house in May 2015, cigarette smoke seepage from neighbors has been a daily and nightly problem. In addition to expensive ventilation renovations (all duct work replaced, baseboard sealant after installation of energy recovery ventilation [ERV] system to correct low airflow, Whispure air purifier running 24/7), I tried 3 types of filters at the return. The first was a washable filter that was convenient but mostly only caught dust bunnies. The Filtrete 1900 performed better for smoke and dust (esp. noticeable on my textured ceilings) and was labeled for smoke filtration. This charcoal version is a good concept, but without a noticeably better effect and because other customers mentioned that charcoal residue might fall into ducts, Im not sure if Ill purchase it again. The charcoal version is about $5 cheaper per filter than the Filtrete 1900, which is a plus. Ill probably alternate between the charcoal and 1900 filters in the future since they each have advantages.

I like this filter because it clearly looks like something that filters not just large or even smaller dust, but has material meant to even reduce odors, which in my house hold is sadly an issue with three kids, a couple/few pets and kids playing outside coming in and out a lot opening and closing the door or outright leaving it open allowing for the home to accumulate unpleasant odors of all types. Only problem is local stores dont carry these types of filters in my size reliably and for a reasonable price, hence me getting it on Amazon.

I use these filters to block second hand smoke from recycling into my apartment.
