I ordered the two pack of the 20x20x1 Filtrete Allergen Defense Odor Reduction Filters. The odor eating air cleaning action of charcoal is magic, and its natural and healthy! When I saw Filtrete went and added it to their HVAC filters and realized they are very close in price to the same filters without it, I knew this was for me. I really notice these working when Im cooking. If the heat or AC (or even just the fan) is running, those cooking odors dont linger around. I imagine these would be excellent for any home that is smoked in, or has been in the past. In addition to the charcoal odor control, these filters provide allergen reduction with a 1200 micro-particle performance rating. Since I began using these filters I have noticed a reduction in my allergy symptoms. I have since stopped taking allergy pills daily and only take them a couple times a week now. I hope these last for 3 months each. This is really dependent on your home, how much dust you have, and how often you are running your heat or AC, etc. Note that doing things such as smoking, burning incense or candles, using your fireplace or doing construction or remodeling will reduce the lifetime of the filter and require it to be replaced more often. At $32 for two, a $64 annual expense to keep your home clean and odor free, as well as to keep your furnace running smoothly and avoid costly repair fees is definitely a good deal. You do not want your furnace intake to be restricted by a dirty filter. FYI on filter replacement: I suggest that in a new home, you check your furnace filter monthly. After time you can extend the time between filter checks to two months, and if they are still looking pretty good, move up to 3 months. (you should replace it at 3 months, set a reminder on your phone) At the VERY LEAST, you need to replace your filter in Spring and again in the Fall. This is easy to remember, if you are changing from AC to heat, change the filter. If you are changing from heat to AC, change your filter. Installation: Furnace filter installation depends on your furnace, but has been a very easy process on every furnace I have ever had in my lifetime. In most cases you simply slide open a door, pull out the old filter and stick the new one in. It is important to note the air flow direction of the filter and furnace when installing and make sure you have the filter facing the correct direction. Note that there is an arrow printed on the filter showing the correct air flow direction.

Good filters, but over priced some.

I use the 20x20” on the backside of a box fan in my garage for pulling dust out of the air and also neutralizing the smell of fumes when painting/varnishing. Works well. Installed in my aunts house and she is a 3 pack a day smoker and it helps cut down on odor.

It seems to be doing a good job eliminating odors. Just installed today though.

These are the only filters that work for my health problems I tried cheaper brands but thew other brands dont work for me.

Nice middle of the pack filter. Not too thick that impedes air flow but just right combination to catch cat hair and other irritants.

These are great and worth the little extra that they cost! I live in a 40 year old home with 3 big dogs so filtration is important! Ive tried a lot of others but I will stick with these.

DO NOT USE THESE! Within a week of installing we began to have serious issues with our HVAC unit & water began leaking from the ceiling into our drywall. The black carbon pieces are NOT secure at all and clogged up the condensate. It had to be flushed/maintenanced twice to clear it fully. This should not be on the market.

Ah! Y’all are here trying to blow up my a/c unit! These filters arrived with the arrows pointing the WRONG WAY. If I had installed them according to the air flow directions on the side, the carbon particles would’ve been sucked into the unit. Good golly people - that could’ve been one costly mistake from the factory. I love the Filtrete brand and will probably continue to buy them but y’all need to do better for the people who don’t know better.

Filtrete 20x20x1 MPR 1200 Air Filter, made by 3M, helps minimize strong odors and capture unwanted particles and allergens from your household air to contribute to a cleaner, fresher home environment. Designed with exclusive Filtrete 3-in-1 technology with a unique active carbon layer that captures odor particles, plus an MPR 1200 and MERV 11 rating, your AC filter will help pull and capture countless microparticles – such as pet dander, smoke, smog, odors, and cough and sneeze debris – while letting cleaner air flow through. Your Filtrete Filter will also capture large particles, including lint, pollen, mold spores and household dust. Use a 3-month pleated 1-inch home HVAC filter in your furnace, air conditioner or HVAC system. Two come in a pack, so keep one filter as backup, or use them in multiple areas. For optimal performance of your heating and cooling system or HVAC system, change your furnace filter at least every 90 days.
