Greater than one weekActive duty Army Infantry, very useful in the field/land nav. NVG mode was more necessary than expected on night movements. Multiple options and abilities with this garmin. Didn’t notice huge difference on performance for 401 though. Recommend screen protector as the screen may scratch easy under use.

Greater than one weekThis model doesnt have the options of the other handhelds (eTrex 35, GPSMAP 64s) but its lightweight and has all the track and route options needed for hiking. My only issue moving over waypoints from my old unit was the 8 character limit on the name. This was easily fixed in the basecamp software and resent to the device.

Greater than one weekThe Foretrex 601 seems like a very well made product with many powerful features and one glaring omission (for me anyway): there is no way to set an alarm. In watch mode it simply tells the time, nothing else (plus it turns off GPS communications, to save battery life). In navigation mode (as opposed to watch mode) it has a countdown timer, but it is limited to a maximum of 99 minutes and 59 seconds.

Trust me on this
> 3 dayGot this for my step son who is in the army. He’s been demoted twice since we gifted this to him. If you have intelligence this will be 5 stars. He’s not that smart.

Greater than one weekVery compact, little learning curve but not bad.

> 3 dayI bought this purely as a knotmeter while sailing. It works perfectly, giving values close to the helmsman’s instruments.

> 3 dayI really like this product and it’s ease of use. Self intuitive to easily figuring out the main features.
