Greater than one weekWould I buy it again? For the first unit I had I said, Not if I could find something more reliable. The replacement works well, so, yes I would buy it again. I still bring my ACR PLB . After multiple problems with the first unit I bought and calls to Garmin support, they, after some cajoling, sent me a new unit. It works. It does not mysteriously periodically drain the battery and the GPS syncs much more quickly than the first unit that was almost certainly defective.

Greater than one weekIts not really about the stars (but Ive given it 5 so folk will read this and be aware), its about what, exactly, this device does and does not do. This as an impressively compact, light and undoubtedly super-handy device and I confess to believing Id found the perfect fit for my north of scotland rambles. Yes, there is a huge but coming . . . which is this device cannot be used for uk location-fixing or navigation as the datum and coordinates options do not allow OS grid reference coordinates. The best options in setup are UTM/UPS coordinates and WGS84 datum - this cannot be related to an OS GB grid ref map. If you want a device to alert the rescue services +/or msg/email your location to friends/family and dont begrudge the HIDDEN additional expense of £24.99 per year on top of the monthly subscription of £14.99 just to use the device, have at it. If you want a device to do that plus simply display your location for position fix or navigating to a location etc this is definitely not it. I had to phone Garmin GB to confirm this is the case. Hopefully they will be cool about returning my already paid £39.88 (see above) to activate the handset. Hopefully. The Explorer is significantly more expensive and seems to offer GB grid refs but all I can say is do your research on that device too. Cheers.

> 3 dayGot the Garmin InReach Mini for a 7 night backpacking trip in the Eastern Sierra. Wanted to be able to receive weather updates and to be able to call for help if needed. Did not have to use the SOS function but it brought piece of mind to myself, my hiking buddies and my girlfriend (who was not with us) just in case someone got hurt. The texting function on the device was a little difficult to figure out but you can sync with your phone and text like normal. Super easy. Lightweight and compact. Battery lasted 5 days or so and it charged up quickly with the battery pack I brought. Very happy with the purchase!

21-11-2024My parents got this from me for Christmas knowing I hike and fish and recently had a heart attack. I am not in any way unfamiliar with technology. Im a software engineer and have been building computers and using electronics my entire life.

> 3 dayIm an avid backpacker and received this item as a birthday gift. I love the functionality, but the screen mysteriously cracked in several places in the hotel room at the end of my second trip. I purchased a third-party screen protector but apparently it didnt offer any protection. I submitted a ticket on the Garmin site, but waited a week and a half with no response. I chatted with online Garmin support today, and they told me this device is not repairable. It must be fully replaced for the cost of $120 plus shipping. This is a steep price to pay for an item I dont trust to not break again. Im very disappointed.

Greater than one weekI bought this item since I ski and hike in remote locations with spotty or no phone service. It checks all the boxes from a safety point of view. It is easy to use and there are lots of videos available showing tips and tricks for using the InReach.
