Garmin 010-01879-00 InReach Mini, Lightweight and Compact Satellite Communicator, Orange

Im an avid backpacker and received this item as a birthday gift. I love the functionality, but the screen mysteriously cracked in several places in the hotel room at the end of my second trip. I purchased a third-party screen protector but apparently it didnt offer any protection. I submitted a ticket on the Garmin site, but waited a week and a half with no response. I chatted with online Garmin support today, and they told me this device is not repairable. It must be fully replaced for the cost of $120 plus shipping. This is a steep price to pay for an item I dont trust to not break again. Im very disappointed.

Does not work well without phone charged 10 percent restocking even though it was never used

Im using this for hiking, camping, and hunting. Gives us some extra piece of mind when Im out alone. You have to get a subscription to use it.

Provides peace of mind for my family when Im off solo hiking in the backcountry or kayaking well beyond cell service as I use the preset messages to update progress and they can track my locations. As long as you know its a safety device that does allow for some feedback, but not something thats really meant for conversations in the way you would use your cell phone, you wont be disappointed. Super light and compact, attach it to your pack and away you go. I carry a small solar panel (21W Anker PowerPort) that I plug in every couple of days so battery life hasnt been a concern for me. Okay, so you do have to buy a subscription to have the device work, but for me, thats about $12Cdn/month which isnt bad (Ill be using it more than 8 months/year so the economics work out cheaper for me to buy the annual plan instead of the monthly) as insurance. Terrific device.

I LOVE IT. I go off roading a lot where there is no service and this device is everything.

I am underwhelmed with this gem. The user interface was about as friendly as a tiger thats on fire. Trying to input date is a task that made me want to trash this thing. My phone GPS is as accurate as this, it just cant transmit a help signal. I would never think of buying this again. MEH!

This is perhaps the most difficult item I have ever run across. Getting it registered was a pain. Customer support on the weekend was a joke. They should have just said M-F and forget the guys on the weekend. On top of that the seller sold me a used unit. Still has the previous owners address in it. Spending untold hours trying to get this right. It shouldnt be this difficult. This was not cheap. Buy something else.

Great features but mini 2 has a lot of new options which make it a better buy for slightly more $

Setup has taken hours, with multiple calls to Garnin because of contradictory web instructions and because it just does not work much of the time. The support staff has been very friendly and responsive, but not always too helpful. They tell me it only works with the browser in incognito mode. Then they say it only works if I clear my browser cache, but are unable to say how to do that. I even got on a different computer and the thing will still not import contact edits to the InReach. If there were some other brand that does similar things satellite communication , I would send this thing back
