Im sure part of it is psychological, but I always take it before I work out. Whether it is a physical or mental boost, it seems to help me get going.

Ive used other electrolyte boosters (bars, drinks, gels, etc.) while running 12+ miles and GU is by far my favorite. I like this source of energy while Im running because it is portable, light on stomachs, and works in about 10 minutes (when taken with water).

Very good. Used it for energy when playing tennis. Had to take a break from tennis the last month.

I buy this product regularly because it provides the energy for those days that Im working out for more than one hour. Provides the energy without the added sugars of others products.

Decent flavor and as easy to get down as any gel (which isnt that easy but easier than gummies). I wish they offered a smaller packet because its kind of hard to get the whole thing down, especially late in a run and once youve opened it, youre committed to either finishing it or finding a trash can. Id rather carry twice as many 50cal packs and be able to eat less at a time. The packet offers some excessive recommendations about how many of these to use (1 before starting then another one every 45 minutes). If you follow those instructions, youll probably puke (or want to). . Everybodys different but if youre new to gels and sports one uses them for, dont start by following the directions, start with a much more conservative regimen (like none to start and 1 every 90 minutes or 2 hours) to see how you tolerate it and how often you really need it. Also, they recently started marketing this as something you might eat in casual settings like before going to the gym- thats ridiculous- the only reason to use this product rather than eat real food is if the duration and circumstances of your activity require fuel that a) you can carry with you in short shorts b) you can consume while moving and c) can get your blood sugar up without requiring a fully operational digestive system. Its not a workout enhancer, its just a packet of sugars and electrolytes that tastes good enough that it doesnt make most people sick.

This is the most palatable of these energy packets Ive tried. It tastes like caramel, which I expect to be sweet so it isnt so shocking when I put it in my mouth. But really I buy it for the energy; it has a little more punch than other gels. I use it before swimming and during my long runs. Gu is thicker than other brands so when it is cold it is really thick.

I am an endurance cyclist, and one of the challenges Ive had over the years is finding on-the-bike snacks that both supply carbs/electrolytes/caffeine AND taste good. Usually taste is the big issue for me, with things either being too sweet (which seems to lead to stomach upset for me) or tasting too much like chemicals. I tried one of these packets that a friend had while out on a bike ride in December, and it was so good that I promptly pulled out my phone, opened the Amazon app, and ordered a box. The salt component of this flavor keeps it from being too sweet, it has all of the rest of the balanced ingredients you need to maintain good performance on the bike, and I had no issues digesting it. I hope they make this a regular flavor, as it is one of my new favorites!

I use this product routinely when running distance races over ten miles. Cant speak for everyone however it works for me.

Absolutely love the taste of these. Have been through two boxes of these already this summer and need another box. I think I will go and order them right now! They are essential for hot summer rides, easy to eat and digest and the salt is necessary (for me, anyway). Sometimes when youre riding a long time/distance and youre hot, the thought of eating anything, never mind a Gu which can be disgusting, is not worth thinking about. But these taste so good I have never felt like that ... definitely recommend if you like the taste of salted caramel anything.

GU Original Sports Nutrition Energy Gel is the energy gel that started it all. In 1993, Dr. Bill Vaughn developed the world’s first energy gel to help his daughter perform better during ultra-marathons, and GU has been helping to propel the world’s most successful extreme athletes to success ever since. GU Energy Gel sustains all forms of athletic activity with a highly compact, portable, and calorie-dense packet that is loaded with carbohydrates that can be rapidly absorbed. Branched-chain amino acids limit muscle fiber damage and increase speed of recovery, and extra electrolytes help maintain water balance. Some flavors feature caffeine to increase concentration. While the original formula has been tweaked and evolved over the years, the end result is still the same: GU Energy Gels fuel the best endurance athletes in the world. GU Original Energy Gel comes in a wide variety of good tasting flavors. Each packet contains 450mg of Amino acids, 100 calories, and at least 21g total carbs.
