> 3 dayI bought this to replace the HEPA-type filter that came with my Holmes air purifier. The one that came with the purifier made my room smell fresh and clean, and people comment on it. I thought buying this true HEPA filter would make it even better! Shortly after installing it (strangely, it doesnt form a seal; seems to me that plenty of air can get around it unfiltered), I began to cough and gasp and my chest burned, and assumed I had a respiratory infection. Im a smoker, and mentioned my symptoms to my doctor, who suggested it sounded as if I might have COPD. I got frightened and dropped the subject, because thats how I deal with things. (resigned face) My cough became worse, and I was suffocating trying to breathe. My asthma inhaler wasnt helping, and I became frightened. A neighbor asked whether Id gotten rid of my air purifier, pointing out that the fresh smell was gone. Thats when it suddenly dawned on me: my coughing had started at the same time Id installed this new filter! I put the original HEPA-type filter back into the unit, and by the next day, I was able to breath again, my cough was gone, and my chest had stopped hurting. Isnt that strange? The filter didnt smell funny (I have a highly sensitive nose), but I called Holmes customer support and spoke with a terrific man there and explained my problem. Hed never heard of such a strange thing, either, but he offered to send me two of the filters which I like (the HEPA-style ones) for my trouble. I cant rated this filter badly because it seems I got a contaminated one (Im assuming they wouldnt ALL make me sick!), but I cant rate it highly, either, because as I explained, theres no seal so it lets unfiltered air get past it, so Im splitting the difference and giving it three stars. By the way, my filter was grey, and not white as in the photo.

> 3 dayIm using this with my Holmes model HAP412 air purifier. It fits perfectly and is well-made, with a nice rubber seal around the edges and a solid band of glue that seals the filter parts together. It has much better construction quality than some generic replacements Ive tried. It is more expensive, of course, than the generics, but doesnt fall apart as the cheap ones have. It includes the plastic ears that clip onto the Holmes and hold the filter in place. This is touted as being their odor reducing filter that uses charcoal, baking soda and other ingredients. It does seem to cut down on odors more so than the regular filers (HAPF30 and BAPF30 models). No, it wont make a stinky room instantly smell like a mountaintop chalet, but it does put a noticeable dent in odor (in my case, smoking smells). To extend the life of the filter and boost the odor grabbing capabilities, I also use a generic carbon filter that I cut to fit, and place on the outward-facing side of the filter. (This is the version I use:

> 3 dayWarning!: The green hepa allergen filter is listed as a pack of 2. Watch out! This is incorrect. It only comes with one filter. If you thought you were getting a deal, youre not. I wish amazon would correct their title description for the green allergen filter. The quality of these filters are great, though a bit expensive. I have a small air purifier in my bedroom and a dog and forced air a/c heat. That filter needs to be changed quarterly or 3x a year, not annually like the website recommends. Once my filter starts getting grey, I order a new one. I have a large (2 filter) standing aer1 air purifier in my basement and it totally takes away all the musty or damp smells. I also run a dehumidifier 24/7. Those filters need changing probably more like 2x a year. Dont wait a year! Dont wait until your filter is black! I inspect my filters monthly, then wipe down the outside of the purifier and handwash the black foam pre filter with water and a little dish soap, it gets super dirty and dusty. I hang dry that and put it right back in. Like I said I replace my aer1 filters every 3-6 months. I have two aer1 purifiers in my house (bedroom and basement), and a large levoit air purifier machine in the living room. My furnace has a merv 13 filter on it. So Im pretty happy with my setup, since I have severe allergies, a dog, and a forced air heating system. My allergies are totally under control. My air smells fresh and clean, even with the dog. And the dust is drastically reduced.

> 3 dayI am very pleased with these! I have two older models of the small air filters that Holmes has discontinued/revamped. It used to be such a pain to buy new air filters for it because it ended up running at close to $50 for two filters. For some reason, $50 seems like an astronomical cost for a couple of air filters, even if theyre only changed twice a year. It adds up and in previous years, I havent necessarily had the income for that but I have had the need for the purifiers due to allergies. These filters fit inside my older models, are packaged in much smaller and easier to deal with packages, and run at about $15 per filter which is awesome. I am so glad they updated the filter to bring down the cost and so glad that they made it so that it works with older models. It helps keep my allergies under control and is definitely within my budget now!

23-11-2024Easy install. Great quality for the price. Easy reorder ability. Just what we needed to replace the original filters in our air purifier. Will definitely be reordering next year when were due for a filter change.

> 3 dayI like this filter, I use it as a secondary filter for some white noise when Im sleeping. Ive been surprised how much additional filtering this little filter is doing in addition to my main filter. A couple of things to keep in mind. One, this is a HEPA type filter which means it is not true HEPA and wont filter the smallest particles from the air. Thats OK, not every filter has to be true HEPA; though you may want to have a main filter that is true HEPA in addition to this one, this filter is more of a secondary filter to support a main filter. Two, because its a lower level filter it will move more air more quickly and will actually wind up needing to be replaced more frequently than a true HEPA filter. Keep an eye on it, once it begins to turn dark it needs to be replaced. Fortunately these HEPA type filters are pretty inexpensive. Id much rather spend a few bucks every few months than breath in the black stuff getting captured in this filter.
