I rarely write reviews though I always read reviews before making a purchase. So I am going to try to be more diligent about writing them. With so many available options it gets really confusing choosing among them. After hours of research and comparison, I chose this Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Washer. Very glad I did. Like our very small cottage, our berber carpet is 23 years old and has seen lots of wear even though only the stairs, bedroom and bunkroom are carpeted. We built the cottage on our small working farm as a retreat from our hectic town life 20 minutes away. Over the years we have let friends, family members, and friends of family members use it when we were not going to be there. A lot of them seemed not to understand the dual-purpose of welcome mats. Or that shoes are not permanently affixed to the feet and can be removed. Also, we have always had dogs and cats and, naturally, as they age the likelihood of accidents increases. We are now retired and the cottage is now our permanent residence and the pale blue berber carpet is definitely an issue. Despite daily vacuuming and diligent spot cleaning with a little Bissell Mean Green, it was so stained that I do not want to describe it to you. It has been a decade since the last time it was professionally cleaned. We considered replacing the carpet but did not want to have hard flooring in our bedrooms, could not find any carpet we liked and also realized that with 2 older people, 4 older dogs, and 2 young cats in permanent residence and assorted grandchildren visiting, carpet cleaning would frequently be needed anyway. So, the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Washer arrived, my grandson easily assembled it ready for use. I did pretreat the worst of the stains with Hoover Platinum Collection Professional Strength Instant Stain Remover spray which I keep on hand and have used many times before and still had the stains, but thought it couldnt hurt, so why not? I used the hottest tap water and emptied the dirty water tank so many times I lost count. It took 4 or 5 hours to clean the small carpeted areas because even when the carpet looked clean on the surface, I wanted to make sure it was as clean as possible before I collapsed from exhaustion. Having the choice to switch between wash and rinse settings was a tremendous help as the cleaning solution and clean water are separated and only mix when you want them to. I alternated between wash and rinse repeatedly and then ended with rinse as suggested in the operating manual. The carpet does not look brand new but it does look and smell clean, really clean! I am amazed! There are still a few faint stains but think they may be helped when cleaned again. So convenient to have the cleaner on hand to use whenever needed. It is very easy to take apart the parts that need to be cleaned after use. I would let them dry completely before putting them back together. The cleaning solution worked great but you will need more than the 16oz bottle that comes with the machine. Amazons subscribe and save feature lowers the cost of the solution and you decide how often you want them to send a bottle. I use the subscribe and save a lot. It is convenient to have exactly what you need delivered to your door exactly when you need it. I am older and have MS so the Carpet Washer is a little on the heavy side and I had a bit of difficulty getting it up the stairs empty so I would not attempt to carry it up the stairs with water in it. It does have 2 carry handles which made it easier to carry. This may not be an issue for most people. I did collapse before I was able to do the stairs so I cannot yet say whether those particular attachments work as well as the upright machine itself. I will try to update this review when I do the stairs. I will also need to use the attachments to clean the perimeter of the rooms as there is a 1-2 line around the carpet that the upright could not reach.

The absolute best investment to date. I am just blown away at how clean my carpet is. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Best decision I’ve made by purchasing this carpet cleaner.

This carpet cleaner has seen things... indescribable things that no one shall see or smell. Ever. We use the carpet cleaner for all over cleans along with larger spots. But let me tell you a story that goes down in history... One day, my brother wanted my son and I to come over for dinner and so he could see his nephew. I told him that I wasn’t really sure my 150lb Pitt/Great Dane mix was feeling that great. She had the runs the night before but it seemed to be drying up. He, naturally being a brother, claimed I was using that weak excuse to get out of coming over. This peer pressure set in. I let my dog out one last time and left. For way too long. Keep in mind, my down stairs all hard flooring. The dogs have access to that, the carpeted stairs, and a small hallway of carpet. Should be fine. Narrator: It was not fine. Cue my return to the distinct smell of explosive diarrhea. The smell has filled the house. I see a couple of poo streaks down stairs and think, wow, what a stench for a few streaks. Oh but wait, there’s more. I slowly creep up the stairs and see brown spots as I climb up. Please no. Oh but wait, there’s more! I reach the top and see a few more small spots. Okay not terrible. BUT OH WAIT, THERES MORE!! I turn the corner and low and behold, a fecal nightmare. At this point, you know I have a big dog and there’s poo on some carpet. Big dogs = big poos. Not only were there two large streaks of runs and plops of patties all over. The dog done pooed up the bathroom door. Still not sure on the logistics but there was splatter and patter because it was on the door, the frame, and somehow the half wall on the other side. Now... the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The cleanup. I picked up as much waste as I could using the ole ‘hand in the bag’ technique so there was minimal solid waste. Keep in mind, the waste is cold so it’s been here a hot minute. I then pretreated with the Hoover pretreat spray, which I also highly recommend. Next was busting out the power scrub deluxe with pet cleaner shampoo. This cleaner scrubbed like there was no tomorrow. I had to do a little more than the manual recommended passes but not only do I not see any evidence from the crime committed, I can lay my face on the crime scene and SMELL NOTHING. NOTHING!!! This horrifying episode alone earned every penny spent on the carpet cleaner. Thanks for a great product Hoover and those who took this story journey with me. Always remember to immediately clean your machine afterwards so it doesn’t get smelly.

5 dogs. Two boys. We don’t wear shoes in house but still…. The carpet came out like the day it was installed. The darker marks are just the shading from paws and feet prints not dirt. This was better than expected. I highly recommend.

I have had this for several years now, and just got around to reviewing it. But I guess that is even better, because he will know that it is reliable. It works nicely, and I have been able to get stains out of my carpet very well. The worst one was an ink stain When I was doing calligraphy. I accidentally poured the entire bottle of black ink onto my cream colored carpet. I could not get everything out, but there is only a slate gray shadow in the carpet. It helps so much. It really does make the carpet look a lot better. I actually use thieves cleaner in it as the carpet shampoo. It worked very nicely. About a year after getting this machine, the seal Around the dirty water collector broke. I still use it although that is broken. It still works. OK, but I wish that that was a little sturdier. That has been the only problem.

About 25 or so years ago, I decided I was going to make some quick money by getting into the carpet cleaning business so I bought some heavy duty equipment; an Electrolux Epic Pro scrubber, Riccar upright vacuum and a Bissell Mean Green machine to use an an extractor. I never made any money, much less quick money, but I have had that equipment with me ever since and it still works as well today as when it was bought. It has been used, borrowed, abused and used some more. I decided I needed a new machine, an all-in-one, because I got tired of lugging everything out, dragging hoses, cords, spot cleaners and so on to clean a small area. So I researched, and researched, and researched some more and decided to buy a Bissell Big Green Commercial unit. As I began to order it, the thought of spending $400 on a giant 50 lb machine I have to drag out every time I need to clean a spot seemed to go against what I was trying to do. Then it dawned on me, Oh yeah, I have an upstairs.. Nope. Im not dragging that thing around. Then there are the times when it will be borrowed and I will have to lift it, load it, unload it, etc. So I backed out. I decided on the Hoover Scrub Deluxe based on reviews and ordered it through Amazon. Amazingly it arrived one day early on the two day shipping. Thanks Amazon or UPS or whomever is responsible. Anyway, here are my thoughts on it. Just so you know, I have high pile carpets so this machine is already at a bit of a disadvantage. Im going to start with cons: *The handle is not that robust and cheaply attached. Use caution not to put undue lateral pressure on it to force the machine around. It works fine for back-and-forth motion. *The gasket on the bottom of the fresh water tank is cheap. It leaks. It will wear out rapidly. Go ahead and order a couple and keep them on hand. *The solution and fresh water fill ports are identical. The identifiers are molded into the plastic and easy to overlook. Grab some markers and label them. *The tanks are small and go through water quickly. Just cleaning the main walkways in a small room necessitated about three fill-ups and dumps. BTW, remember the cheap gasket? Since you have to remove the water tank to fill it up so many times, it leaks momentarily every time you reinstall it but mine sealed off eventually after each tank install. It might be better to set the water tank on the machine so the fill tank doesnt leak and then just fill it in place with a gallon jug or something. * The cord is short. Im assuming the big companies must T&E folks with tiny houses because cords on home appliances are always too short. Just grab a 6 extension cord as thats about how much more you need. One other thing, and if it wasnt for the fact I have to box and ship the machine this *might* be deal breaker as it bothers me that much, the cord is routed through the bottom of the machine so you will run over it constantly. Yeah, there is a holding clip on the handle but now the cord is about 2 shorter so Im having to whip the cord like a cowboy lassoing a calf to keep it out from under the wheels. Come on Hoover, or China or whatever. Stop that crap. *The scrub brush. Im pretty sure they just stuck that thing on there to say it has one. It freely floats about 2 with very little down pressure and the bristles are fine and soft. What the heck is that thing for anyway? Its darn sure not scrubbing anything. Its probably better to just take it off as its just in the way. Okay, so now the pros: Now, you might think from what I listed above that I hate this machine. Actually I was somewhat impressed with it. Im not sure how it cleans with that crappy little scrub brush but it looked like I was pulling chocolate milk out of my carpets. I regularly vacuum and just did some carpet cleaning about a week ago so I was a little disgusted. This little machine is phenomenal when it comes to spraying and suction and this is where it shines. Its not a carpet scrubber. You would need to buy a dedicated unit for that job. This is an extractor and a darn good one. I used the Hoover soap solution that was included but as soon as I opened the container, I wasnt a fan of the soapy smell. I went ahead and mixed up a 1/2 soap 1/2 water mix on the solution side (and eventually went to 1/3 soap 2/3 water) but started cleaning the carpet with straight ol hot tap water. In case youre wondering, the tank is split with a rinse side for straight water and a wash side for water soap mix. I did a standard rinse pushing forward, extract pulling back and was amazed at how well it worked. Just using hot tap water worked as well as the solution but I went ahead and injected a little Hoover soap into the carpet. Its not so bad when greatly diluted so no headaches. Most of the carpets were okay enough to walk on with bare feet within about 30 minutes, although not dry. Im writing this within an hour of finishing the cleaning so they are still damp. I figure a few hours and we will be good to go. So, what do you get for $140? Well, you get a China-plastic machine with upholstery attachments that has small tanks, leaks a little right out of the box and has a useless scrub brush but somehow still cleans carpets pretty well. I think its a little overpriced for what it is but for small rooms and spot cleaning it should be worth it if the longevity is there. If you really want to make your carpets clean, in this price range I think you would be hard pressed to find a unit with better spraying and suction short of buying a heavy-duty commercial unit. Just buy an actual carpet scrubber with real nap lifters in conjunction with the Hoover. Vacuum really well, then scrub your carpet, extract using hot water with the Hoover then, if you have high pile or plush carpets, go back over your carpet with the nap lifters. It will look brand new again.

I have NEVER left a positive review for a vacuum or shampooer… well here we go. This thing is unbelievable… it distributes shampoo evenly and it truly does… as much water that you put into your carpet will come back up through the shampooer and you can clearly see it’s black and I have OCD lol to my surprise it was not light… now when I shampoo it’s light… it’s easy to move… the tanks are massive which is nice I don’t have to change or get water every 10 minutes… literally if it broke I would still buy it again
