HP 27-inch QHD Gaming with Tilt/Height Adjustment with AMD FreeSync Premium Technology (X27q, 2021 model)

Ive received six of these so far – a mix of the LIM111 (1x), LIM101 (1x), and BIM111 (4x) revisions. Both LIM revisions appear identical in all aspects that I can see, while the BIM revisions have some serious quality differences. See attached photos for a comparison (LIM on left and BIM on right). The stock color difference is not as extreme as it looks, thats just distortion on camera due to the anti-glare coating, its only roughly half as bad. LIM111/LIM101 (LG): • No flickering • Good anti-glare coating and no visible graininess • Beautiful and vibrant color • Strong and accurate whites/grays • Great viewing angles • Moderate IPS glow BIM111 (BOE): • Flickers a lot (more on that below) • Excessive anti-glare coating that causes visible graininess on the screen • Weaker color vibrancy • Weaker whites/grays • Poor viewing angles • Minimal IPS glow For those who have a mix of BIM and LIM revisions, I recommend trying out custom RGB on both – (245, 255, 255) on LIM and (255, 255, 255) on BIM. Theres still a noticeable difference, you cant get them to match without drastically hurting color accuracy on LIM, but its a decent improvement. Do not install an ICC profile on the BIM revisions unless its specifically tuned for it. 3 of the 4 BOE panels that I received flicker, including replacements from different warehouses. The flickering is like a momentary 20-30% drop in brightness, and it happens in batches of 2-3 times over the course of several seconds, generally reoccurring every 5-30 minutes. I couldnt find any settings that helped, including reducing the refresh rate and disabling adaptive sync, nor swapping the cables with a LIM panel that didnt flicker. It seems like theres possibly a flicker lottery going on here too...

I did my research, and this monitor is truly worth the price (i bought it for $234, including taxes). With this monitor at this price, it makes no sense to buy a secondhand monitor (which is what I was planning to do initially). Great colors. Great looks. The refresh rate is amazing. Its an IPS panel which is better than TN panels. The 1440p resolution makes things look insanely good. I am very happy with my purchase, but if that changes anytime soon, I will change my review. So far, I have had this monitor for a month and have 0 complaints.

I usually buy monitors from Dell, but this monitor was a hundred dollars cheaper than the Dell equivalent (S2721DGF, which, apparently, has the same panel), with the only apparent downside being the lack of a USB hub, so I bought two. Both screens arrived in perfect working condition, with no visible backlight bleeding (surprisingly), and no dead pixels. Ive been using the monitors for almost a week, and so far, I havent experienced any issues that sometimes occur with cheaper monitors, like some patterns or colors triggering waves on the screen. The only complaint I have with this monitor is the placement of the buttons. They are simply infuriating to use, because they are at the back of the monitor and navigating the monitors menus involves constantly keeping attention to which button you have your fingers on. Also, a minor nitpick: in my experience, Dell monitors come with a sturdy briefcase-like box made out of thick cardboard, while these HP monitors come in a cheap box made out of thin cardboard. This, of course, is a very minor issue, but I am not sure I will be able to use the original boxes from HP to transport the monitors because one of the packages arrived with a tear starting from one of the handle cutouts.

I got a Dell 24” curved gaming monitor prior to this one and honestly I regret it. This HP monitor is sooo much better!! The quality is better and brighter. The only thing I wish it had was more ports.

The power button and all of the controls are on the back of the monitor, not even near the edge so you can sort of reach under or around to get to them. Its like someone intentionally placed them in the hardest to reach location. Im frustrated that I cant easily turn these off at night when I want to shut down or put my computer to sleep. Other than that, theyre fine. The tiny bezels mean theyre very nice side by side. They seem bright and crisp and so far Im happy but I havent played anything intense on them yet.

Picked this up to replace my 2nd monitor that was going bad. Honestly, for this price point, its a great monitor. If my primary wasnt an insane 49 Samsung ultrawide, Id definitely consider getting another and running a pair of then as my primary screens.

The monitor itself is fine, the included DisplayPort cable was not working however, and it took considerable time to figure it out, it was quite a headache. The idea of packing everything back and bringing the large box back to Amazon was not too attractive, had to buy another cable by myself.

Lets go straight to the point. Pros: -165Hz (Display Cable only). -Good picture quality. - Good color Vivid. -1440p resolution. -27inch is prefect size for gaming. Con: - Colours out of the box is not great. You need to change or customize it to get the best out of it. -Everytime you touch the HDMI or display cable it turns off the screen and it comes back up again. -Theres a little dull color area in the right side of the monitor. its very small and you dont really notice it when you are watching movies and playing games. -Also I one dead pixel (Not too bad)

Most FreeSync displays will correctly drop to about 48Hz for scenes where there is excess GPU load. However, this HP will only drop to 60Hz, meaning it doesnt do FreeSync correctly at the most common frame rate: 60. You see, most games will hover around 60 FPS, but no game is perfect. The frame rate may be lower or higher than 60 during gameplay. This is why any FreeSync/variable refresh display MUST allow for rates below AND above 60Hz (48-75Hz range being common for cheap monitors). If the display cant provide for this variation in 60 FPS games, then the FreeSync feature is pointless. This is such an unbelievably boneheaded oversight on HPs part, I suspect these monitors may be a defective batch that have been marketed differently. No competent engineer would ever spec a variable refresh display with this range, as its useless for the most common gaming frame rate: 60. So dont waste your time on a mediocre display with poor IPS glow and a useless FreeSync feature. Buy one of the cheap LG gaming displays instead that have a better variable refresh range.

Monitor is wonderful and great price for the quality. Easy to assemble and NO tools required. The brightness is a bit too much for me as a gamer, but other than that, amazing quality and packaged safely.
