> 3 dayI didnt know what to expect with a free or nearly free book, but it was very good. Well written, and just all around enjoyable story of Indians coming to America. The road is always bumpy for immigrants.

> 3 dayHe is a wonderful and imaginative writer of fanciful fiction. This was his 1st book and I think others are even better.

> 3 dayThis is a book that will leave you with a smile. Very imaginative, but believable. I enjoyed the characters. I agree, living in the moment is so important.

> 3 dayI was greatly disappointed in this book and would not reccomend it at all. It has a cute premise but terrible execution for 3 main reasons. first, the medical info and situations are completely bogus. He clearly is writing what he knows nothing about, and it makes the book unbearable and ridiculous for anyone who knows about medicine. Its fine to write from the standpoint of a lay person interacting with the medical system, but not to learn a few terms and pretend to know what they mean and torture them to make the story work the way you want. second, the silly and tidy wrap up to the whole legal/police angle was just so idiotic that it spoiled any enjoyment of the story. Again, its great to incorporate magical realism as a plot device, but not have the real people in the story doing incomprehensibly stupid stuff. Thirdly, the author got lazy with dialogue, which he actually does well when he bothers- he continually relied (especially in the section in the end about Arthurs childhood) on the narrator to tell the reader what the characters were saying to each other and how they were telling it, instead of presenting the dialogue. The characters were 2 dimensional and precious, and I only finished it because not doing so would have been the bigger waste of time (but close call!). I dont ususally write such negative reviews but I bought this book based on the positive ones and I wouldhope the next reader gets a more balanced view.

Greater than one weekSome authors innately have it, the right touch, an ambiance that immediately grabs the reader. He describes deep, meaningful love so genuinely well, along with telling a story that keeps readers turning the pages, guessing which ending hell choose. I look forward to reading more of Levys books, and have already started another of his novels. The way he drew his protagonist, an extension of himself I could tell, prompted me to google him. The interview (with photos) confirmed everything I garnered about his personality through his character Arthur. Levy is a renaissance man, a kind, interesting and well-informed man of the world. A kindly, good man. They type that are difficult to find. A person of good karma, and therefore, I am even happier to learn of his success. I look forward to reading all of his books. Thank you Marc Levy for wonderful entertainment and intelligent, interesting reading. P.S. I just read Publishers Weeklys review, above. Apparently your reviewer was skimming the novel. The female love interest was not a nurse - she was a resident doctor. Also, the reviewer stated Levy has no ear for American speech, I thoroughly disagree with that assessment. Hes as fluid in understanding American nuance as I. I suggest Publishers Weekly keep checking that reviewers work. It needs a great deal of polishing. (And no, I do not know Levy personally.)
