If Only It Were True

> 3 dayAfter reading, and loving, P.S. From Paris, I hurried to find another book by the same author. But, the first third of the novel felt as if someone else entirely had written it. The dialogue sounded as if it had been pulled from a first draft, and from one of a first-time writer. - wooden, terribly wordy, at times even silly. Where was the editor in all of this? And then suddenly, right at the point where the main character began to kidnap Laurens comatose body, the quality of writing changed. Description helped to pare the dialogue and ground it. The only echoes of the style of the first third of the novel were the wrenchingly lengthy speeches and letter from Arthurs mother. Again, where was the editor? The premise of the book was genial and it was that that kept me reading. And, there were moments where the connection between reader and characters was strong. But, overall, the excessive chatter made the novel so unbalanced. P.S. from Paris was masterfully written, and clearly Marc Levy has amassed a multitude of fans with other novels that they considered of high quality. I will look for those and forget the one that was rushed to print before it was ready.

> 3 dayI like this author. All his books are unique and the stories are well written. This one was made into a movie. The movie was not nearly as good as the book. The story is good but the characters make it great. Worth reading.

> 3 dayBeing a medical professional, there was so much wrong with the beginning of this book. The meds given and initiation of cardiac resuscitation. It was also very obvious that it initially took place in another country with different laws. Once I got past that it was a fun little fictional read. Could have been translated more appropriately though.

> 3 dayDo you believe in miracles. Well, even if you don’t, this book is good. Isn’t it nice to dream and say “what if”. Was this true? You tell me.

> 3 dayIt just couldnt be true and that rather spoilt it for me and that also created inconsistencies.

18-11-2024Found this author this morning, checked out the sample of this book, then bought the rest of it... Yep, wiped it out in one sitting! If Only It Were Only True kept me flipping pages, wondering what happens when every belief we have becomes confronted with our realities. Im now following Marc Levy and am going to read his other books also. I read a lot but this is the first time Ive ever reviewed anything. Give this novel a shot, you might just like it as much as I did.

> 3 dayLoved this love story but the story line began too fast and ended to quickly. Loved Arthur and Lauren. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this book.
