Great app – no adds. Very easy to use. Lot’s of settings. However, I noticed that sometimes the schedule time does not work. For example, the light needs to be off at 8pm, but for some reason its still on at 9pm... I hope they’ll fix this bug

We have quite quite a few Kasa SmartPlugs in our home so I thought I would give this a try since our dining room dimmer switch needed replacing. First, the Good: - This is working very well on an antique oil chandelier that was converted to electric many years ago, and has an LED bulb. If it is working well for that, I would imagine it will work well for just about any light. - It integrates well with Alexa. I am sitting in the family room right now and via voice turned it on, dimmed it, and then turned it off. As will other Kasa smart devices, you can set a schedule and turn it on/off remotely. - It has a nice, oversized faceplate which I really like because it keeps the wall around the plate cleaner since there is less chance for hand contact. The Not Good: - The faceplate is very difficult to remove when you pull the product from the box. You fear you are going to break it. - It is even more difficult to remove if you have it mounted to the wall and need to make a depth adjustment to get a really good flush mount to the wall. - There is little to know guidance from Kasa in the box or on the web about how to remove the faceplate more easily. Most of what I found was from their help forum from other buyers who had the same question. Advisements that dont affect my review but could help you: - My old dimmer switch had wire leads that made connecting the red and black wires. This Kasa does not, which required me to flatten and straighten them so as not to loose any wire length. That requires some tools a just a bit of manual dexterity. The advantage of no lead wires is having less wiring and fewer wire caps to push back into the wall once you are done. - My old dimmer also had no ground wire. If you are not used to replacing light switches and dont know, dont skip this step and call an electrician if you are unsure about good grounding. - Speaking of calling an electrician: This Kasa requires an additional white (neutral) wire to work. Do no assume that because you have shut off power to your red/black wires that power it is also off to your white wire. Again, call an electrician if you are not sure, or at the very least use a voltage tester.

I love this smart switch. In general, I really like the Kasa wifi series smart home stuff. Their outlets are excellent, and this switch is too. I love that there is no hub required, and they simply work. I hate when Alexa starts acting like garbage, or cant connect to the internet, and everything relying on the Alexa hub stops function. ALL the Kasa stuff will still work as expected via the Kasa app. While the connectivity and smart functions are awesome, I also really like the feeling of the buttons on the switch. This replaced a Leviton smart switch that I hated. The buttons were stiff, and hard to press, and it required a z-wave hub (despite claiming Alexa compatibility on the box). The Kasa switch buttons are soft touch, and responsive the way it should be.

I have 2 smart dimmers since November 2022, one of them for some reason, got disconnected from the network, after troubleshooting myself, I was not able to get it back online, Chatting with customer service representative solve my issue. Jonaire guide me through all the steps and my dimmer is back online. Great customer service. Great product.

Make sure you use LED bulbs if you have multiple bulbs connected to this switch as this switch only allows 350 watts. Bought this to regulate the time my front porch fixtures come on in the eve and turn off in the morning. I have three fixtures with a total of 14 bulbs, with 60watt regular bulbs my wattage was 840, the switch kept clicking off due to over heating. Switched the bulbs to LED, 6 watts per bulb and reduced to 84 watts, the Kasa Smart dimmer switch works great. I set my schedule and my lights come on at the time I set every eve and go off at the time I set in the morning. Easy to install, a bit tricky to program but go step by step as listed and you will get it done. Im a 59 year old that has a technical interest.

These are great if your electric box is not over run with wires. The switches are very deep only allow 1/2 to 3/4 room for wires. Took me a while to fenagle the wires but once in it took about 15 minutes to set-up and connect to Alexa. Technology is probably not there yet to condense the size I knocked 1 star off because 1 of my 3 switches disconnects from the network periodically. They are all within 20 ft of each other and my Eero Mesh device is about 10 ft away. If it was a network issue I would expect the other two switches to drop, but they never have. Mine have been installed for 5 months and were at the perfect price point for dimming and connection to Alexa. The Kasa app is easy to use and I have the switches set to turn off at 1 am because the kids leave the lights on all the time.

This switch is the right solution to a set of 6 bathroom lights that is way too bright, even with low-voltage LEDs. Bright is good for grooming, but bright is not good first thing in the morning or in the middle of the night. Putting in 6 dimmable bulbs was not a realistic solution, as they would have to be programmed individually then grouped in software. The Kasa Dimmer works perfectly on 6 LED lights. The dimming function is easy to use and provides full range from off to full-on bright. Installation is easy. You do need a neutral white wire but all houses since the 1970s have that. Determine if you need to buy a new faceplate. My installation was in a 3-ganged box and I could not find a faceplate for two rockers and one toggle, so I had to buy a cheap Leviton rocker (dumb switch) and replace the toggle so I could use a three-rocker faceplate. Buy a flexible faceplate (such as Enerlites) because it takes a little jiggling and cursing to get all the switches lined up perfectly and you do not want to crack the faceplate. The biggest downside to the Kasa dimmer is that when you touch it, it doesnt come on. It has to think for a couple of seconds, then it comes on gradually over half a second. If youre impatient and touch the switch again, you just turned it off. Ha-ha. This little game can go on for several cycles. When you walk into a room, you expect to touch a switch and get instant light. You do not expect to stop and stand in front of the switch to see if its going to work. This is a great annoyance, but ultimately a minor flaw. After a while you learn how to touch the Kasa switch just right so you have a 90% chance of success. It is, however a design flaw that makes the switch less than perfect. Integration with Alexa is seamless (once you link the accounts) and performance is rock-solid. Ive never had a Kasa product fail on me, and I have plenty of them in the house. Recommended.

Look, I have a TON of Kasa stuff in my house. Switches, dimmers, three-way dimmers, strip lights, smart power strips. Seriously, maybe everything except cameras, because I have an entire hardwired CCTV system in the house. I like Kasa, and I really want to like these. They were easy to install (as long as you understand electrical, dont hurt yourself people!) And I know the trick to connect them even if the app doesnt detect them. They are a little bulky, but it you can handle working them up you can make them fit in the box just fine, Im sure. ...BUT... I use HA, and thats one of the reasons I chose Kasa. AND when I bought these outlets, I was under the impression that they did power monitoring. Now theyre installed and configured in all the systems, and I learn that they actually do not have energy monitoring capability. Disappointing. And I dont understand why that feature wouldnt be included on these. Seems like a basic feature, especially since its included in all the wall wart style smart plugs I have, most of which are also from Kasa? TPLink, if this can be added by software update, that would be great, as it really just seems like a basic feature that should have been provided.

3 nice things about this dimmer: 1. Allows for local control, meaning that you can control it with Home Assistant. 2. You can turn off the backlight (in case you are using it in a bedroom and dont want the wall switch lighting up the room. 3. If you need to reboot the light for some reason, you can push the bottom right small button One SUPER annoying thing about KASA devices: They now FORCE you to create a cloud account just to connect these to your wifi. I absolutely detest this practice. Once I connected the light, I blocked all internet access to these (and every smart IOT device in my house) using my OpenWRT router. Overall recommended. I have many of these devices for the reasons listed above.
