My primary source of books uses Adobe DRM and requires Adobe Digital Editions. This reader is advertised as one supporting Adobe Digital Editions/DRM, but it does not. There is functionality and screens for it, but they dont work. Search online, and you will see plenty of posts concluding this. Its a bummer because the device overall is pretty good, but I need to be able to open my books to be useful to me. The only other option is to use third-party software to remove DRM, but at that point, you could use a Kindle instead when you buy books from Amazon. I was very hopeful for this product, but I am very disappointed. Hopefully, kobo can fix this issue soon.

Ive been using this for two months. its my fifth e-reader (three kindles, and this is my second Kobo) and Im very happy with it. Its fast, the screen is great (300DPI, same as my previous reader). I havent tested the waterproof feature yet (and dont intend to!).

For decades I truly didnt think I would take to an e-reader. I liked the look and feel of physical books so much! I finally decided to take a chance and give the Kobo Clara 2e a try a few months ago and am surprised how much I love it - and how much MORE I am reading now. Its slim, lightweight, has amazing battery life (lasts for a couple of weeks on a charge generally), and the screen is responsive and enjoyable to read from. I am a huge fan of the varied options for brightness and the ability to change the warmth of the screen. I also LOVE that this has dark mode - unless its a really bright day and I have it outside, I often prefer reading in dark mode as I find it easier to read. Its great for use in different positions and is far easier than trying to juggle a flashlight and page-turning of a regular book if you want to read in bed at night without disturbing your spouse. Its also nice for trying to break the habit of wasting time on social media - Ive been trying to reach for this and read a few pages here and there rather than scrolling on Instagram on my phone.

Previous to buying the reader I downloaded the Kobo App, successfully purchased a book and could open it. I was saving the reading experience for my reader. Upon attempting to open the book via the reader there was an Oops message indicating the book could not be opened. Kobo customer customer service advised me there was a known issue and would get back to me when resolved. That was a week ago. No update. Two more weeks and I will have no choice but to return the reader, cancel my Kobo account and demand refund of my book purchase price. Update: After about a days worth of my time, yet another reset has solved the problem and the reader works. For now

The Kobo reader can render ePubs where Kindle readers do not or can not. That was Amazons decision. It was a deal breaker for me. The Kobo Clara 2e is everything I expected and more. I dont think anyone can go wrong with this ereadrer for the price. The only thing that I dont like is the price of eBooks on the Kobo store. they are considerably more expensive. I dont know why. So, I dont use the Kobo store.

I really, really, really love this eReader. The more I use it, the more I like it. Everything really is a matter of taste, but heres my 2 cents on Libra 2 vs Clara 2e: I originally bought the Libra 2 and the Clara 2e came out about a week after... I really liked the fact that its Waterproof, but I wanted something pocketable that would feel comfortable in my hands and I wasnt sure if the reader would feel too big. Sure enough, the more I used it, the more I started to think that I should have waited for the CLara 2e to come out instead. Also, the screen rotation, which I thought I would love was actually annoying and I ended up disabling it. If I tilted the eReader a bit while reading, it would flip the text on me and I had to wiggle it to fix the orientation. Another thing that I really didnt like, that I thought I would, were the page buttons... I didnt like that extra bezel where the buttons live. It made it awkward for me to have to worry about which way I was holding the reader and holding it in Landscape Mode wasnt good for me either - yet another thing I thought I would love. Weird... So, I returned the Libra 2 and got me a Clara 2e and freaking LOVE IT. What I love about it: - Im not tied to the Kindle Ecosystem anymore (drop any non-DRM ePub, text file, PDF, html, practically any format (except Kindle). - I can even drop books from my Android Phone directly into the Clara with a USB-C to USB-C Cable - Clara 2e is a bit cheaper than the Libra 2 - Its waterproof (same as the Libra 2) - It fits perfectly in my hand - It doesnt rotate the screen - I have no buttons to worry about - No wider bezel on one side to keep track of - Its the perfect size for my taste - Its kinda pocketable - in jeans back pocket or side cargo short pocket - Battery Live is incredible - I do not miss the extra screen size of the Libra 2 - I never read PDFs - its better to convert them to ePUB with an online converter (your success may vary here) - Pro Tip: Use https://pgaskin.net/kepubify/try/ to convert your ePUB to kepub and fix image clicking and other issues In the end, its all a matter of personal taste. What works for me may not work for you, but I hope this helps someone make a decision one way or the other. Whatever floats your boat...

It’s a very promising reader, hardware and UI. But looking onto the software last update - Dec 2022 (6 month ago) - it seems Rakuten considers it to be stable enough. Unfortunately the stability is far from its competitor. During the only day of usage I noticed: chapters aren’t recognized in 80% of epub books (where kindle shows them fine), remarks are not supported (no reaction on tapping), books with 5000+ pages are slow to turn pages in (and one pretty huge epub even hanged and then causes reboots every attempt to turn the page while kindle digested it pretty well. I blame the pages counter in the footer. Need to admit Amazon kindle doesn’t even show that counter, which I frankly dislike, while Rakuten dares to support pages but without working around the performance issue). The font size is jumping up and down book to book. The most gaps are in the Cyrillic letters support - text renders fine, but you cannot select/highlight anything, and the read progress shows always 1%, and each 3rd page has one damaged word (like “da rÙolmaged”), and you cannot search - the keyboard has no cyrrilic letter. The pluses are there too: compact size, thoughtful UI (slide on the left to dim the light - very nice feature), decent light - cold and warm, usable dictionary. But the immature software spoils the good impression (Rakuten, maybe get Ukrainian QA engineers, not only they are diligent but can cover both latin and cyrrilic books)

    Greater than one week

This device came highly recommended and worked great once I got signed in. I had a wonderful evening of reading, put it up for the night and went to read at lunch and it got stuck power cycling. I made sure it was charged, and still continuously just totems off and on. So disappointed, Ill be returning it.

The biggest advantage of this device for me is the agnostic file format support. I specifically got this e reader because it supports DRM free formats like epub, and it did not disappoint. Not only is it super easy to transfer epubs from a computer (with or without calibre), but it also has a built in web browser so you can download books directly from a server. Other Pros: - USB C charging is great - adjustable light temperature w/ auto adjustment based on time of day - no ads on the Home Screen! - built in overdrive support - supports dark mode - battery life well exceeds 1 month Cons - no black color option, only dark blue So much happier with this over a Kindle, and I don’t have to worry about Amazon selling my library and reading data or getting bombarded with ads when all I want to do is read my books.

I did a lot of research on e-readers as I was upgrading from my very old kindle Paperwhite from 2013 (it was the 2nd gen PW) I absolutely loved my kindle I thought the size was perfect and was looking for something similar. I had to try out out the new Kindle Paperwhite as that was the kobo Clara 2es counterpart both with very similar features. I ultimately decided to go with the KC2E. Clarity and contrast is very important to me. And while the Kindle was absolutely stunning with the flush front I found it to be too big for what I was looking for and the words were not as sharp when compared to the KC2E. Im not a fan of the materials used for the Kobo, I dont feel like it matches its price, however other than that its a great device.
