*********EDITED MAY 2020: It didnt make it through the tiny starter toner. It connects to the network, it just refuses to print with no indication why. Im a retired network engineer and have dealt with the nastiest of printer problems on networks and repaired printers in the field with paperclips, soldering iron and sheer anger. This one stopped working rather early on and can only print its own configuration- no other print jobs will work and nothing more of an error than it just cant print the job. My last Lexmark was an utter failure, too... and this one will now join it as I have to PAY to recycle them both. As of today, replacement toner is not available anywhere- even from Lexmark unless I mail in the empty one first to refill. Im done with Lexmark after decades of buying dozens and dozens of their enterprise printers at a time.************** This is a no-frills, monochrome printer without all the fancy touch-screen nonsense. What it does, it does perfectly- spit out paper quickly. I print a LOT while Im working on some business plans, consulting and getting my MBA just for giggles despite being retired. My color laser eats toner as if it is free and it most certainly isnt. Having a monochrome, fast, two-sided printer as a default is the best idea ever... save that color printing for when its actually necessary. Its surprising how often one does NOT need color, and the cost savings of not wasting printing in color is significant. I set this up without looking at directions, as I always do. Initially, it didnt detect ANY WiFi networks in my house when there are actually five of them. This was odd, but after several tries it started to see them. I had to go through typing the password through the simple buttons and simple display three times, but it finally connected and all is well. There is an app for this as well as computer software, but I chose to do everything without adding yet another app or yet another bit of software on my computer. Its likely far easier to do it with the apps etc- so unless youre just a glutton for punishment like me, just use their app. When it came time to print, this is when I became a big fan... it spits paper like crazy! I set it to print a large document, four pages per side, double sided... and wow, it was racing through it so much faster than any other printer Ive had. SUPER fast at getting prints done. The print quality is fantastic, too. Double-sided printing saves SO much paper and space, too. Lexmark has always been one of my favorite printer suppliers, mostly known for their commercial machines. My last Lexmark was a color laser which was a complete disaster and never worked well at all. It ended up being recycled without ever having a successful print. Lexmark has redeemed themselves with this one- its a business class machine that will absolutely STUN you with how fast it can put out pages. The ads say 42 pages per minute... which is faster than what I got, but plausible. Bravo, Lexmark. There are cheaper printers out there, but this one delivers performance that is worth every penny.

Great simple monochrome (black & white) laser printer. I got it to print work orders and documents so I don’t waste expensive inkjet ink on them. It works just as advertised. I had a little trouble getting it setup to print from my laptop over WiFi. There are no instructions with the printer and none available online. You basically get a piece of paper with cryptic images that go through the printer unpacking and setup but no detailed instructions on how it operates. The setup of connecting over WiFi is done through the a simple screen with 3 buttons. You need to scan through all of the functions and then through the alphabet to enter password. Its time consuming and frustrating that they didnt make a better way to do this. The printer ended up connecting to my home WiFi network without a problem but would not allow printing through my PC. It showed up in the Windows printer list several times and would bounce between “ready” and “error” states. I finally was able to determine which printer was the correct one in my settings and delete the others. After that it works fine. I also connected via Ethernet for testing and that also worked fine. Also had an issue printing from Apple iPhones or iPads. The phone would show and “out of paper” error on it even though the tray was full and printer was online. Ultimately, I found a work around where you change the paper from “letter” to “letter, plain paper” and it will print fine. So it looks like there are a few bugs to be worked out still on the part of the manufacturer. I still give this printer a solid 4 stars for price, quality and the fact that it does just what it’s supposed to which is quickly print black and white documents inexpensively. Just be prepared to work though some issues with the initial setup.

This is a very nice monochrome laser printer. One I had previously took a long time to print from a cold start. This one begins to print almost as quiickly as an inkjet printer. Print quality is excellent and print speed is high. Wireless setup was very quick and easy. I like Lexmarks Unison toner. It separates the toner cartridge and the imaging unit unlike other toner cartridges where the units are combined. The Unison toner cartridge doesnt need shaking to equalize printing and prints at lower temperature than previous types of toner, so that means lower energy costs as well as quicker printing from a cold start. My only issue is probably due to this being a new item that I received through the Amazon Vine program. There is no online documentation specific to this model and I have been unable to determine the toner replacement cartridge for this unit. I assume that will change once this is a fully supported printer. All things considered, this is a great printer. My older laser printer is now history.

Horrible printer. Very slow printing

This is a great monochrome printer for producing an inked base for heat transfer foil projects (such as projects using Deco Foil or Minc). This model, B3442w, can take 110lb cardstock with the 297 g/m2 parameter as long as you make sure the printer has been told to take heavy paper in Tray 1. I have already made several perfect foils on day one. I am using the Recollections cardstock for my work, by recommendation of an established foiling artist who is extremely correct about which paper to use. Ive tested many, many cardstock brands trying to find backup sources... only one ever came close to Recollections in foil adherence quality and wow, back to the printer. I highly suggest drawing from a stack of cardstock in Tray 1, as the intake mechanism grabs the sheet better that way. I mention this because some printers take cardstock better if its theres only one sheet in the tray. The printing accuracy of multiple passes for multi-color foils is very high. Only a millimetre or so off most of the time. The machine needs flat paper and will almost always jam if the paper has a curve to it. The printer will cause curving of cardstock paper but thats easily fixed - usually the foiling rollers press the sheet back to flat, so just be mindful and patient with this. My experience with their customer support was also very nice.

After setting up, this printer is pretty nice. You DO NOT need to install a CD and you can setup 100% from mobile as long as you currently have wifi setup. Steps: 1. Unpackage everything. Take all the tapes off. Take out the toner and remove the foam piece. Put paper in the paper tray. 2. Plug it in and go through the setup process. Skip mobile setup for now. Setup wifi...the interface is kind of a pain, but hey....youre not paying for a 300+ printer. 3. Go to print setting to turn on direct access via wifi. 4. DO NOT download the stupid Lexmark mobile app. None of it. Its crappy. After 30 min fighting with the stupid thing, I tried a third party app android app called: NokoPrint 5. Find it in your Playstore and download it. Follow the setup. It probably wont find the drive, so select Generic drive. 6. Attempt to print something. If printing a pdf, itll have you download one more small package so it can read and display the content. DONE!

This is the worst printer I have ever purchased. It constantly jams for no reason. It does not matter how much you fan the paper or what kind of paper you use. If you buy this printer you should expect to clean out paper jams on a daily basis. I will say once you actually get it to print, the quality is good.

Im a tried and true HP guy, but this printer got great reviews on Amazon, so I took a chance. I shouldnt have! Out of the box, it looked pretty solid. But... The cartridge and how it is seated in the printer are confusing and unnatural to hold. Plus, it takes two hands to remove the ink part from the housing and you cannot set it down with fear of damaging the print roller. The tiny screen made it very difficult to type on, plus there are no clear instructions of what to do to set up the features. It has a CD-ROM. Ha ha, seriously!? Who has a CD-ROM drive anymore on their computer anymore! Plus, it does not say what the CD=ROM is for. Nowhere does it show where to go for help or how to set up the printer, not even a website. Okay, so I get it ready print and try it out. What!? All the pages are printing in negative or reverse--black for white. My test page has a fully ink-soaked black page with a few words printed in white. Ive tried printing a PDF, website and Word document--all with the same results. No documentation anywhere of how to troubleshoot. Their customer service phone support is closed on Saturdays. No help to be found on this issue anywhere on the Lexmark website. No articles anywhere on the Internet. Ive now spent two hours trying to troubleshoot the issue, with no help to be found. Back in the box it goes. Ill buy an HP like I should have in the first place!

I’ve owned two other Lexmark printers which I really liked, so bought this printer for our second home. The hardware is great but as others have pointed out installation can be a nightmare. No manual comes with the printer and trust me you need one! There is a tiny two-line display that is extremely non-intuitive, although if you mess around with it long enough you can sort of figure it out. The app they tell you to download is very basic and does get you connected to Wi-Fi, although you need to go into settings on your iPhone and connect your phone to the printers Wi-Fi first...which isn’t obvious. Then when I tried to print it kept saying I needed to put paper in the tray, which was already full of paper. We tried everything and finally sent it back for exchange. The new one had the same problem! Arghhhhhh!!! After much more messing around with it I believe this is a driver issue. The printer is trying to print from the multi-purpose tray on the front rather than Tray 1 at the bottom. I’ve set the default tray to Tray 1 yet the problem persists. On my Mac I was able to change the tray setting to Auto and it works fine now; on my iPhone my son discovered that if you change the paper from “letter” to “letter, plain paper” it’ll work! You have to do that every time you print though. I can live with this, at least the printer is way better than the HP it replaces, which would never print wirelessly like it was supposed to. Hopefully a future iOS update will fix this! Be forewarned!!!

I had a little trouble setting this up. The instructions are graphical so that they work all the different languages worldwide. The first steps go through getting it out of the box, removing all the shipping tape and padding, putting paper in it and the like. At step 12, it basically says turn it on. Then in step 13 there is a picture of the CD and an arrow to a laptop. My laptop doesn’t have a CD drive. So I tried using it on a desktop Windows 10 PC and it couldn’t find the printer. I assume there was a missing step somewhere that was to allow the printer to access my local WiFi network. Since I have a wired ethernet as well as WiFi, I chose to make a wired connection so that I could go to the next step in the setup program. It did find the printer and that allowed me to go further. I did have to do a bit of troubleshooting to actually get it to print. I got some error message about something (SMTP?) not being set up. I kept trying to print and I thought it still wasn’t working until I went to the room where the printer was located and found that it had been printing and double sided at that. I seem to remember it asking me at some point if I used the wireless app to set up the printer. Since I didn’t have a wireless app that I was aware of, I said no. Notice in the lower right corner of the instructions there is an I with arrow pointing to a WWW for I assume information. Does this mean, if you need help search the web? A web might be helpful. On plus side, the printer works fine, with good print quality. I assume that I will get the wireless part working at some point.
