> 3 dayThe software seems to have loaded but it absolutely wont play a DVD, tried multiple disks. Error is above, there is not way to associate with an unknown app. Also, when using furnished software and selecting DVD player it returns the message that the function is not supported and one must buy software to play a DVD

> 3 dayPlug-and-Play on my Macs–I was watching a DVD within fifteen seconds of opening the box. Its quiet–the only time I hear it is when it first gets power or you load or stop a DVD, and that lasts for just a couple of seconds. It is perfectly quiet during Play. Ive had no problems with its response to any control functions I issue either by using my mouse or my remote control. So far Ive used it about a couple of dozen DVDs. Ill edit this post if I encounter problems in the future. I cant speak for the software disk that comes with it since you dont need that stuff for Macs.

> 3 dayReview Change! Customer service responded in less than 12 hours. I had to load (for free) the VLC app. (www.videolan.org) This app triggers my DVD player to start playing the DVDs. HUGE RELIEF!!! I am not sure why I had to download this app, but I am glad that it works!!! It is an extra step, so its not plug-and-play, but rather open app, insert disc, then play. :) Here is my previous review: I purchased this to play DVDs on my MacBook Air at home. It does not work! First it tried to make me change my zone but wouldnt actually let me change anything. It just pops up the player screen and says, Not Permitted for every disc that I try. I can see the player on my dock and I can see the disc on my desktop, but it just makes a noise like it is going to play and then gives the error message. I looked at a bunch of these before choosing this one. My school has an older version of this LG device that is truly plug-and-play for my MacBook, so I thought a newer one would work for sure! I am very disappointed and I wish I hadnt wasted my money. Unfortunately, I already labeled it with my name, so I cannot return it.

> 3 dayI purchased this external DVD drive because my mid 2010 era iMac with iDVD (version 7.1.2) would not burn DVDs using the internal drive. Good news is that this external DVD drive works and I can create DVDs again with iDVD! The box says drive is Mac compatible. In the box is the cable, installation disk for Windows, warranty, and Quick Set-up Guide. All I did was plug into a USB port, start iDVD and it recognized that I had two DVD drives. The choices were in terms that made absolutely no sense because there were letters and numbers that did not clarify which drive was which. I picked the wrong one first (labeled: OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H) and nothing happened. I repeated that step with the other choice (labeled: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP60NS50) and bingo the external drive came to life and I made my DVD! Additional notes for Mac folks: my internal DVD drive has been acting up for months and all diagnostics tests did not reveal a problem. Apple Care helped run some tests that did not reveal any problem with the DVD. I even took my iMac to the Simply Mac, Apple affiliated, store and their test says it was OK too. I also looked on the Apple Community for help and lots of folks were dealing with “Why does iDVD not burn a disk due to ????” The questions are all over the ballpark as to the probable cause like updating OS, iDVD is obsolete and no longer supported, and hardware issues/questions. The solutions were equally scattered. I was torn between iDVD, hardware, and recently updating to Yosemite as probable cause(s). So I had too many moving parts and it all did not make logical sense that the internal DVD tested as OK but I could not produce a DVD. Clarity settled in when I priced a new internal DVD….”you must be kidding!” is all I can say about that figure (1/3 the cost of the computer!). In addition, I was also told I could not trade in my iMac UNTIL I fixed the internal DVD! Also, the Apple external drive that they sell for the new iMac is not compatible with my vintage iMac so that was not an option either! So this was a gamble purchase that worked!

> 3 dayNot all DVD drives will work with M-Discs (the archival long-life discs), but this is one that works well. My new Dell computer does not support M-Discs, and I didnt want to keep my old (slow) Windows 7 computer simply for use with M-Discs (also an LG drive), so at this price I decided to go ahead and purchase it. It works very well. Note that its not the highest speed, and it uses an older (slightly larger) USB plug (the older USB mini, not micro plug), but the main USB plug (standard full size) will work with virtually any computer, so this is highly functional. And my wifes new laptop doesnt have an optical drive (many dont anymore), so she now also has DVD/CD capability for her laptop since this is so easily portable. Reviews on this particular drive at tech sites are excellent, specifically for use with M-Discs, which was my main purpose in buying it. But its great for general DVD/CD use for any computer that doesnt have an optical drive.

Greater than one weekWorked plug and play with my 2014 MacBook Pro right away, no effort. Much faster than the Apple product its replacing (besides being lighter weight). More reliable, too. Slightly flimsier build quality I guess, but with its light weight it seems fine. Has a physical eject button which is nice. A fraction of the cost of the Apple product, though not quite as cheap as some unheard-of brands on Amazon. Close enough to be worth it for reliable LG product – read the reviews on the cheaper ones and youll be convinced to come to the name brands. Looks nice, though admittedly doesnt quite fit the Apple aesthetic. Wish Id bought this years ago.

> 3 dayDefinitely NOT plug and play, like they claim. I am not tech savvy at all. So, this wasnt easy to use, first time out. Music CDs did play right away. DVDs, did not. The program suite this comes with, does have a media player, but you have to pay FORTY DOLLARS for the upgrade to use it. If you dont have the suite installed, it sends you to the Microsoft Store, every time you insert a DVD. So, I tried about a half of a dozen free apps from the store. In short, they were all garbage. I then went to the web, to try VLC, which Ive used in the past. I clicked download, and it directed me to the Microsoft Store, and I installed the app. It didnt work. I tried RealPlayer, and couldnt figure out how to get that to work, either. I did some more reading, and decided to try VLC again, but this time, not downloading the Microsoft Store version. It works fine. Ive noticed that with other apps as well, Microsoft offers. A lot of them do not work as good as the web version. So, in the end, the web version of VLC media player, will allow this to play DVDs. (Im running Windows 10 BTW) As far as burning CDs and DVDs, I didnt buy it for that, so Im not even going to try!

> 3 dayAfter having issues with using my internal DVD burner on my desktop I still needed some way to burn somethings off and read some disc. So why not replace the internal DVD burner, you might ask. There is nothing actually wrong with it, is why. Its a long complicated story. Ignoring that lets talk about the burner. Only needs the single USB slot, that is as long as your USB slot can supply enough power to it, which mine can. The portable devices with 2 USB, one being pig tailed off the other, are for the rare cases when thats needed for that device it doesnt mean you always need it. I do wish the USB cable was bit longer. Its only about 2 feet long. Mini-USB on the device end. Moving on, it uses a tray instead of slot loaded. Ive never really cared for slot load devices. The tray is just like what you would get a laptop where the disc snaps into the tray, understandable being as slim as it is. The burn times are on par with what my internal burner would do: 4.3GB in about 10mins, a bit more than 20mins if I add in the verify step which is a good idea most times. Anyone looking to get this for the intent of using it as a DVD player for your TV; DONT! Thats not what its meant for. Its meant to be used with a computer, not a TV. While yes Im sure itll work with some TVs that doesnt mean itll work with all of them. If you want a mini DVD player for your TV then go looking for one thats designed for that. LGs website list this as TV Connectivity which is a bit misleading since its just a USB device. Im sure it works fine on most LG TVs, I cant get to the ports of my some old LG LCD TV to see if it works with it. It doesnt work on my Samsung but thats not the fault of the burner as much as it is the TV itself. My point is, dont knock any star(s) just because it doesnt work on your TV. I would also like people to stop giving it a bad review because of the installation CD and cant find drivers for it. There Are No Drivers For This Device! This is simply plug&play. The installation CD is for installing the, completely optional, Cyberlink free software. If youre having problems with getting this to work, its not because its missing drivers. Even since Windows95, Ive never known an optical drive that required drivers for it to work, not including USB. If youre on a Mac or Linux or Windows XP and newer, then its just plug&play. Speaking of the Cyberlink software. Ive seen people knocking off stars because of it. The Cyberlink software is offered for people that need that sort of thing. If you cant get the software to work for whatever reason, then go complain to them. Its LGs fault or the drives fault. Rate the product not the optional software.

> 3 dayI cant believe that some people cant get this to work. You have to plug it in, let it download its recognition software first, and then you can put your included Super Multi Drive Install disc in, and download the needed software to run the program. I absolutely love it, and find that it works exceptionally. I bought it for my HP Stream 13 laptop with Windows 8.1, so that I can transfer my vinyl records through Audacity and make digital files for archiving. The cds that it burns have come out absolutely phenomenal. They sound better than any cds Ive ever burned before with other HP computers, with awesome quality that rivals or even out does store bought cds. Ive been very impressed for something this cheap. Completely surpassed my expectations. It plays cds and dvds perfectly! I havent tried burning any dvds yet, but Im certain in its capability to do so. Im hoping it lasts me a long time. The build quality looks good and what you might expect from LG! Very thin and super light weight. The burn speed was also faster than I expected. Overall, I am very, very happy with this product and I would certainly buy it again. LG really makes great products! I highly recommend this product!
