I plugged this up to a Mac Mini that had no optical drive already and it worked like a champ with no setup or issues. I tried it on my old MBP, however, and it wont burn disks. The best I can figure is that the internal drive is working just enough for the computer to still see it (just spits out any disk you put in) and the disc burning process is getting confused. I also have the same problem with my older Mini that has a CD RW drive (though that internal drive works fine). In both cases it spins up the disc in this drive, then spits it out and tells me it failed. So it wont work on our machines with dead drives or drives that dont support the medium we need to burn, but it works great on the machines where there is no conflict present.

This is a great little CD/DVD external player with USB cord to plug into my Mac. My driver doesnt work on my Mac so I cant play or import music on CDs, or watch DVDs. I bought this and plug the cord into the computer and voila! I can now play CDs and watch DVDs on my computer using this little external device. Why do I only give it 4 stars though? Because Im on my 3rd external drive as the other ones eventually stop working or wear down for some reason. It seems to last less than a year, then I start having issues with this. While this runs closer to $30, it shouldnt be more than $20. It does the trick, but doesnt last long enough.

It seems to be working to above standards right out of the box, instantly loads dvds, all the ones my dvd drive wont load this one does so I can keep upgrading my Vudu account. It seems to play them just fine without loading any of the software that came with the unit, so I just tucked away the software so if needed I have it. I havent played a whole movie yet but it opens under fifteen seconds or way quicker and plays it then since Im just uploading to Vudu I stop it and do my thing, but the picture is pulled up on screen for intro so I can tell its playing the dvds. One cable seems to be more than strong enough using HP CQ 60 usb port. Its kind of light and flimsy but not bendable flimsy. Expect the unit to be moving all arround while taking in and out discs, its think just a half an inch high, so I finally ended up wedging it under the usb plug in and that seems to hold in a good place and keep it from moving all around, now I just need to find a shorter cable in my bag of cables to make it pretty, one that comes with it though has the magnet shield magnet on it so not sure if I should switch it out. Push the button on the front and it pops right open not a fancy one like an x box but more like the ones that come with lap tops, latch is released and spring pops it open. Makes some loud noises with some dvds and those were not properly pushed down enough so be careful of that. Still some are just louder even when rightly inserted. Its got a plastic sticker on top to make it look aluminum brushed, its all plastic, so dont mistakingly try and peel it off as a clear protective sticker like the ones found all over unit when you get it like I did, didnt peel up at all but I was just lucky. As I said plug and play replaces immediately your internal drive once auto driver finds right driver to communicate with unit, Im using Windows 7. Expect it to be smudgy on top from holding the unit down while closing it each time. No fancy lights or anything just one blue or green activity light on front and one button on front to open it. I think that covers it, as I said brand new and havent played an entire disc, but very pleased on its lightning speed of opening all my dvds when my drive would just click for minutes and still not open them. Write me for questions, spend the thirty and be satisfied, Im now an LG customer. I have it running off a plain usb not 2.0 or anything, at least Im pretty sure its just a plain usb.

I purchased 4 of these, primarily to backup DVD to hard drive. I connect all 4 drives to a single PC and use them all simultaneously. I had real concerns about whether or not this would work, for a number of reasons. So far Ive worked through a few hundred DVD and had ZERO failures. All discs have been read successfully and theyre plenty fast. Im sure they would work well under any OS like Mac or Windows, I happen to be using Linux. The software I use to backup DVD is the command line program dd.

Sleeky looking, easy to use, and quickly recognized by my computer. I stopped using DVD for years since the era of clouding and streaming, and even USB becomes redundant. My parents got my a series of popular child program from Asia for my little one and l had to buy this in order to play it on TV. This is one of the feature that attracts me to use it on TV. It loads up properly and detected by my LG tv, but somehow the DVD was not playable, so not sure if its the disc or compatibility issue. It works flawlessly through my computer via HDMI connection. Overall happy with the product, not thrill with the outdated technology, and the TV function would be great if it works all the time.

After many drives, this is the best, I had issues with the other ones including Apple drive.

This will, in fact, work on a Mac: Some reviews and answers suggest this is not Mac-compatible; however, heres the skinny: This unit is plug and play, meaning no setup is required. (Note: The software CD that comes with it is NOT necessary for use; its just a free media suite.) The problem lies in the fact that, when a BLANK disc is inserted, the drive doesnt appear in Finder, which is no doubt confusing. (A disc with content will appear normally.) One method to confirm it is recognized is to go to About This Mac > Storage. To burn a file to a blank disc: Control-click your file and select Burn your_file to Disc — a popup box should give you the option to select the external drive. NOTE: Samsung no longer supports external optical drives. No tech support, no warranty claims via manufacturer.

I originally planned on getting a Dell, but after reading terrible reviews, I chose this one. Glad I did! Comes with a disc that contains 3 types of editing programs you can install on your computer (photos, videos, etc.). Havent tried those out yet but appreciated that it was included. This does its job well, and thats all I could really ask for.

I cant believe that some people cant get this to work. You have to plug it in, let it download its recognition software first, and then you can put your included Super Multi Drive Install disc in, and download the needed software to run the program. I absolutely love it, and find that it works exceptionally. I bought it for my HP Stream 13 laptop with Windows 8.1, so that I can transfer my vinyl records through Audacity and make digital files for archiving. The cds that it burns have come out absolutely phenomenal. They sound better than any cds Ive ever burned before with other HP computers, with awesome quality that rivals or even out does store bought cds. Ive been very impressed for something this cheap. Completely surpassed my expectations. It plays cds and dvds perfectly! I havent tried burning any dvds yet, but Im certain in its capability to do so. Im hoping it lasts me a long time. The build quality looks good and what you might expect from LG! Very thin and super light weight. The burn speed was also faster than I expected. Overall, I am very, very happy with this product and I would certainly buy it again. LG really makes great products! I highly recommend this product!

The item came in without any damage. It has a USB so it does require type adaptor if your laptop only has a type C. It wasnt working the first time when I put a DVD in because it kept asking me to change the region but it wont let me no matter what regions I changed to. I tried again the second time, and it worked. Sometimes it recognized the DVD right away, sometimes it takes a while before it plays. Also, sometimes it just keeps loading without anything playing. Therefore, in the third case, I will have to open the VLC player and open the file/DVD from there, and it worked at the end. It is not the best one but not the worst one because Ive tried one not that not even doing anything. I already expected the loud noise so I wont go crazy about it. I hope it can last for a while
