> 3 dayThis DVD drive worked perfectly with the plug and play aspect of the drive. Came with USB cable and Cyberlink Media Suite 10 for burning CD, DVD and playing CD. The only thing that it didnt come with was a DVD Player for playing DVDs, this was corrected by obtaining a Free DVD player software on the internet, this allowed for DVDs to be played and played very well. This was bought for friend with Windows 7 Starter OS, and small laptop he got from Verizon. I helped him set everything up, since he is disabled since he was 2 years old from being hit by car. This is perfect for him, and I am sure he will get good use out of it while he is in the hospital. Thanks LG for a quality product that I have given a 5 stars.

> 3 dayI plug it into my Microsoft surface pro 4 and it work okay, I used it to load my old disks I own of Microsoft office and student 2007. I also loaded outlook 2007.. They loaded and work fine. I did not want to use the latest version of Office and Outlook App because it cost about 100 dollars or more a year to lease them fro microsoft. These work fine So this external drive paid for itself allowing me to load office and outlook, the instruction are on a sheet that is full size and is readable without a magnified glass. the device is very small, light weight and well built.. The disk that comes with the dvd disk with is a program called Media Suite 10.by Cyberlink but its not the full version it includes Power2go ,Labelprint2.5 ,Powerbackup 2.0 and Youcam 5.0. I used my desktop to load these programs. you need this external drive to load them. They loaded okay but I did not spend the time to play with these programs. I dont really need them but I will check them out and see if I have a future use for them.

> 3 dayModern era drives our life towards absence of CD and DVD ROMs in our computers/laptops, especially those that are designed for personal home use. Indeed now speed of internet is much much faster that reading speed of the laser inside a ROM. However, most of us have collected enormous collection of discs covering old FLAC, MP3 music albums, home video, family pictures and so on. Of course you can keep one of those old machines to read your stuff, but after few years of progress that will be painful to work on such slow machines and eventually you will either put everything in clouds or buy a set of external hard drives. BUT, there is another option. You can simply have ONE and only ONE per family external CD/DVD readers. This particular one has astonishing slim design, laptop like mechanics of loading and unloading disks, and, what is the most important, high speed of reading and recognition. It took my Macbook air (late 2012) absolutely no time to start working with this device. I thinks at some point a lot of people will end up with having one of those along with their laptops and all-in-one machines that like iMac do not have CD-roms anymore, but I dont fell like that they should have one.

> 3 dayI will say this device works flawlessly and the finish is nice. Worth the money for sure. I have no complaint with the device. They could be clearer in the description about Windows 8 not natively having DVD movie support and this drive not coming with any DVD player software. You will be required to either pay Microsoft around $100 (unless you have 8 pro..then its only $10), or pay a 3rd party $50-80 if you want to watch DVD movies on your windows 8 machine legally, unless your computer came with extra software already, or you already paid extra to own windows 8 with Windows Media Center Pro Pack or the Pro Pack Upgrade or bought the upgrade beforehand. If you have 8.1 RT, youll have even more hoops to jump through. Windows 7 home basic or starter put you in the same boat...but 7 Home premium, 7Pro, or 7Ultimate do support DVD movies and you wont need anything else.. It is not LGs fault..again, this is a nice drive, and i assign no blame to them at all. Its just another example of Microsoft cutting corners (and in this case trying to make a dollar) at your expense. Too bad the DVD movie software is so expensive... there are free options, but they are shareware and may not be legal...

> 3 dayI ordered this because my new laptop didnt include a cd drive. It is not often I need one, but sometimes you do. This is very easy to use. It is simply plug and play. There is included software, but I did not load it. Once I plugged it in, it showed up in file explorer. Click on it and use it.

> 3 dayI have used various DVDs, and this one is great: Slim, fast and at mere $25 with free ship from Adorama (the seller): I have nothing to complain. Came in completely sealed, new condition, DVD itself has a thin, transparent protective film all around, with all manuals, 1 x USB cable and an installation DVD (which I did not have to use as my computer automatically did it. Thus, in my case, this was a plug-n-go situation.) I use this for my home office / personal use. I often burn CDs and DVDs, 30 to 100 at a time, containing documents to presentations to photos to videos. This is good enough for my use. Besides, the sleek and slim look is nice to look at on my work desk. The seller, Adorama did great job in shipping free and fast, delivering in 5 days from NJ to CA. Once I received, I can request invoice/warranty via email so that warranty would start when I get the item. Im very satisfied with the product and the seller.

> 3 dayAfter having issues with using my internal DVD burner on my desktop I still needed some way to burn somethings off and read some disc. So why not replace the internal DVD burner, you might ask. There is nothing actually wrong with it, is why. Its a long complicated story. Ignoring that lets talk about the burner. Only needs the single USB slot, that is as long as your USB slot can supply enough power to it, which mine can. The portable devices with 2 USB, one being pig tailed off the other, are for the rare cases when thats needed for that device it doesnt mean you always need it. I do wish the USB cable was bit longer. Its only about 2 feet long. Mini-USB on the device end. Moving on, it uses a tray instead of slot loaded. Ive never really cared for slot load devices. The tray is just like what you would get a laptop where the disc snaps into the tray, understandable being as slim as it is. The burn times are on par with what my internal burner would do: 4.3GB in about 10mins, a bit more than 20mins if I add in the verify step which is a good idea most times. Anyone looking to get this for the intent of using it as a DVD player for your TV; DONT! Thats not what its meant for. Its meant to be used with a computer, not a TV. While yes Im sure itll work with some TVs that doesnt mean itll work with all of them. If you want a mini DVD player for your TV then go looking for one thats designed for that. LGs website list this as TV Connectivity which is a bit misleading since its just a USB device. Im sure it works fine on most LG TVs, I cant get to the ports of my some old LG LCD TV to see if it works with it. It doesnt work on my Samsung but thats not the fault of the burner as much as it is the TV itself. My point is, dont knock any star(s) just because it doesnt work on your TV. I would also like people to stop giving it a bad review because of the installation CD and cant find drivers for it. There Are No Drivers For This Device! This is simply plug&play. The installation CD is for installing the, completely optional, Cyberlink free software. If youre having problems with getting this to work, its not because its missing drivers. Even since Windows95, Ive never known an optical drive that required drivers for it to work, not including USB. If youre on a Mac or Linux or Windows XP and newer, then its just plug&play. Speaking of the Cyberlink software. Ive seen people knocking off stars because of it. The Cyberlink software is offered for people that need that sort of thing. If you cant get the software to work for whatever reason, then go complain to them. Its LGs fault or the drives fault. Rate the product not the optional software.

> 3 dayWorked out if the box with my Windows 10 PC. Unlike most external drives it does not show up until you insert a disc in the drive and it disappears as soon as the disc is ejected.

> 3 dayI purchased 4 of these, primarily to backup DVD to hard drive. I connect all 4 drives to a single PC and use them all simultaneously. I had real concerns about whether or not this would work, for a number of reasons. So far Ive worked through a few hundred DVD and had ZERO failures. All discs have been read successfully and theyre plenty fast. Im sure they would work well under any OS like Mac or Windows, I happen to be using Linux. The software I use to backup DVD is the command line program dd.
