I purchased these puzzle because my almost 2 year old son is receiving speech therapy and his therapists recommend it to me. They are easy to grab because they are chunky! He is in love with them and plays with it every day he has find many ways to play with them.

I bought these for my (then) 19 month old. At first he struggled and had little interest. Its been a month now and he is pretty good at it. Some are still tricky, but he matches them up correctly every time. I purchased the farm and jungle themed puzzles. As far as longevity, I give it a 4. It didnt take long to get scratched up.

I have been searching for good puzzles for toddlers. I am a developmental specialist and work with infants and toddlers with special needs. I look for easy puzzles that have pieces that are easy for toddlers to pick up. I have always loved Melissa & Doug puzzles because they are always so well made and typically very age appropriate. I need puzzles that are sturdy and hold up well. I toss them in bags and in my trunk so they have to be able to take a good beating. When this puzzle arrived, I was beyond excited. Here are the things that I really like about this puzzle and using it for toddlers: - The puzzle has bright colors. This is great when using with young children to keep their attention. - When you take the puzzle piece out, it has the same picture underneath. This makes it easier for toddlers to figure out where the piece goes. - The pieces are thick chunky pieces so even though it doesnt have the little knobs on top, small, uncoordinated hands can get them in and out. - The entire puzzle piece is painted so that there is not any raw wood showing. - The animals are the colors of real animals. I have too many puzzles and kids books that have animals all crazy colors. At this age, its important that the animals are as realistic as possible. The animals on this puzzle are the colors that real ones would be (pig is pink, sheep is white, etc...). I have been using this a ton and the kids really seem to love it. I can use it to not only work on the fine motor skill of putting the puzzle piece in but also the cognitive skill of matching the animals, the language skill of learning animals sounds, names and colors. There is just so much I can do with this puzzle with really young children and ones with delays.

My son has loved this puzzle since he was 6 months old. I was excited to give it to him at Christmas. He has put it through the ringer in the last 3 months as he plays with it every day. I have thought all along that the clunky animals and barn pieces were wood until I was wiping it down with some soapy rags. Thats when I looked closely where the paint chipped off and saw the edges were getting saturated...it wasnt wood it was pressboard?! I couldnt believe anyone would make a toy that goes into mouths invariably out of something as foul and hazardous as particleboard!!! This is not ok. Now I have to take away my sons favorite toy! I have told my dad about the puzzle and he is cutting out some teak scraps that he has into the shapes and I ll paint them since Im pretty good at that stuff and my dad is a great carpenter. Its worth the trouble for my sons favorite toy, especially since i want to keep this puzzle for future kids too. Why dont Melissa and Doug charge a couple bucks more for pine or poplar...they can use rejected, warped wood...its so frustrating what some companies do to make a buck...its sick when unsuspecting parents and babies suffer from their corporate bottom line. I wont he buying anymore of their puzzles like I had intended to. I will just stick with used puzzles on ebay or something. Such a downer Melissa and Doug! Now I m wary of all kids toys. Bottom line: If you dont care about your kid putting toxic resins and ingesting particle board, or if your child is over putting stuff in their mouths and banging puzzle pieces to bits, this is a fun little puzzle. My son has gotten a ton of play before I had to remove it, I will be having my dad copy the pieces and maybe the whole back as well so my son can continue enjoying this product safely.

I wanted a way to introduce farm animals and since my baby didnt yet have a chunky puzzle as well thought this is a good way to introduce both. I like it so far.

We use this puzzle a lot ! It’s a family favorite. My daughter is 14 months and it’s easy to grab the pieces and slide back into place.

The puzzles are great quality. Nice vibrant colors, just what I expected from melissa and doug. Unfortunately they smell strongly of hookah. So much so that I wouldnt gift them to someone else. I plan on washing them before letting my toddler play with them again.

My 15 month old granddaughter LOVES it! She’s really good and putting the animals where they go. The puzzle is very sturdy and all the pieces fit perfectly with a tad bit of wiggle room to get them in and out easily, not to mention it’s so cute! Worth the buy for sure!
