This is what you buy if you need to know the readings will be correct 100% of the time. Great tool.

Every guy wants a caliper but thinks they cant justify a good one, so instead starts with one of the cheap ones. If youre smart, youll only do that once. If youre really smart, just buy the good one in the first place. This is one of those tools you just need to pay up for. That said, this one is very nice but I dont love it. Pros: - Highly accurate - Automatically reads exact position every time! Love it! Never loses zero!! - Doesnt run down battery when not on (like all the cheap ones do) - High build quality Cons: - No detail markings. You have to use the digital display. OK, sure, thats fine 98% of the time. But if its ever out of battery, its useless. - Read that last one again - seriously bad design. This is a really nice caliper, and I love the auto-zero, but Id buy any other model that had detail markings. - Buttons are TINY and still hard to press even when you get a fingernail on it. - Doesnt auto shut off quickly (or possibly at all). Recommended. Its worth the purchase price for sure. I just wish theyd fix the minor annoyances.

These seem like genuine Mitutoyo calipers. Functional, everything seems fine/new. Only 3 stars, because it was shipped in an envelope with no padding. It has a hard case, but it was probably banged around a lot during a shipping. Not adequate for a precision instrument.

This caliper is well made but I find it measures exactly the same as a $20 unit from Aldi. So probably not worth the extra money.

Its already a given that Mitutoyo is of the highest quality right alongside Starrett. So much so that the USA is getting flooded with overseas knock offs of the Mitutoyo Calipers. Amazon and a few other reputable Mitutoyo sellers are your safest place to buy them. But steer clear of eBay! There is about a dozen YouTube videos as of this writing, that can help you to verify if yours is genuine I was happy to determine that the one I purchased here on Amazon is indeed Authentic. Be careful out there, otherwise you could end up paying well over $100 dollars for a $10 dollar knock off.

This is far superior to my generic one which was constantly turning off and rezeroing itself and also giving me inconsistent readings every time I measured. If you make jewelry or another craft where you need precise measurements this one is worth it. The only thing I needed to get used to was that it doesnt turn off by itself so sometimes I forget and am probably wasting battery life. However, in most cases that is a feature not a bug (meaning its not always turning itself off in between measurements). In addition, if the jaws are left open and you turn it off, when you turn it on it still gives you a measurement of where you left off, it doesnt just zero off from that spot. You can press the TAR button for that giving you much more control and saving time. Once in a while it gets unzeroed by a 1/2mm and you can just take the battery out, close the jaws all the way, replace battery and hold the zeroing button to reset. Otherwise very stable and consistent readings.

It’s been over a year since I purchased my calipers and they’ve held up greatly. Within half a thousandth accuracy repeatedly just making sure I’m straight and not canted is the difference and used micrometers to double check and usually within .0001” to .00005” and held up to the coolant droplets and shavings of metal that I constantly wipe off to measure.

The Mitutoyo 500-196-30 digital caliper has a 0 to 6" (0 to 150mm) measuring range with 0.0005" (0.01mm) increments for precision and an advanced onsite sensor (AOS) electromagnetic inductive sensor for resistance to dirt, oil, and water. Its digital readout LCD shows inch or metric units for versatility, and allows either absolute or incremental measurement readings. The electronic caliper measures inside, outside, depth, and step values for versatility and includes a protective case and SR44 silver oxide battery.

Digital calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside, and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The reading is electronically generated and displayed on a digital, high-resolution screen as a single value. Digital calipers can take differential measurements, which are used to determine the difference in measurements between two objects, by zeroing the display at any point along the scale. Some digital calipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for recording measurements. Compared to dial calipers, digital calipers provide measurements that are faster, easier, and more error-free, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically, and do not resist coolant well. Vernier calipers are more durable than digital calipers because they do not have internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, carpentry, and medicine.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.
