This caliper is well worth the money. I had some other brands, but they never last. You can not go wrong with Mitutoyo.

These seem like genuine Mitutoyo calipers. Functional, everything seems fine/new. Only 3 stars, because it was shipped in an envelope with no padding. It has a hard case, but it was probably banged around a lot during a shipping. Not adequate for a precision instrument.

Incredible, accurate, bought in 2019 and battery still going strong in 2023. Probably been dropped about 50 times and still work just fine.

I love these calipers. These are accurate and come in a solid case for storage. Ive made the mistake of buying cheap calipers in the past and finally I did the right thing and bought a pair of these Mitutoyos. Japanese quality!

Was very skeptical especially with all the fakes. I bought through LLC Amazon, and after doing quite a bit of research I believe these to be real. There are 4 zeros before the decimal point when in inches, and 2 zeros before the decimal in mm, the finish is very nice, even the box is very sturdy. The battery is the correct SR-44 and comes in its own plastic packaging (in the caliper box), the zero button has to be held when you fit the battery, when doing this make sure you put squeeze them closed to ensure correct readings. I contacted Mitutoyo to ensure the certificate of inspection of genuine as the signature and stamps look to be printed on. They viewed photos of the documents and believed them to be authentic, I think Mutitoyo must be printing signatures now... I also saw a review of someone else which posted the photo of this card, and it had a different serial number to mine which is another indication the item is authentic. For the record my serial ends in 554 so chances are if we all have different serial numbers the item is authentic as they match the item and certificate. I hope this helps someone. Thanks.

Please note that this product review is for both: the digital caliper and the company producing them (Mitutoyo). In my opinion, a good review should take into account both facets when determining a products overall price/performance. With that said: SUMMARY In summation, this digital caliper from Mitutoyo works great as advertised BUT the shortcomings in the calipers functionality and the companys performance leads me to rate this product just three-stars. As a discerning customer who is spending $$$, I EXPECT a little more from a well-established company like Mitutoyo. Here is why: PRODUCT REVIEW The caliper (Mitutoyo 500-196-30 Advanced Onsite Sensor Absolute Scale Digital Caliper, 0-6 Range) is a wonderful device that works great. Ive used it to measure the dimensions of various KNOWN objects and I found it to be fairly accurate. For example, comparing the known dimensions of an iPhone 5 against the calipers readings, I found the measurements to be pretty exact; my measurements varied only slightly (+/- .01-.02mm), as expected. To achieve consistent readings, I had to ensure I applied the SAME continuous force for both: taking measurements and when setting the origin. Using the same amount of force I was able to achieve fairly consistent and accurate results as mentioned above. However, there IS a significant shortcoming or two from my experience. The first has to do with the lack of an auto-off feature; this digital caliper from Mitutoyo has none. Once you turn on this digital caliper, you MUST remember to turn it off or else the battery will continuously drain until you do so. In addition (but not as important) the caliper requires a battery, an (SR44SW), that is not commonly available locally in most areas. If Mitutoyos engineers decided on a more common battery like a (2023) ,the overall design would have been superior. Due to these shortcoming, the calipers rating was reduced one star lower. Overall, the caliper is great at taking consistent accurate measurements but you should already expect that given the price $$$ you are paying for this device; its not exactly inexpensive. COMPANY REVIEW In my opinion, the only technical reason for excluding such a BASIC feature as auto-off in this day-and-age is purely a Marketing technique to create product differentiation. This type of practice allows companies to create additional versions of the same exact product by varying features across their product line. This practice attempts to sway more customers towards EVEN more expensive versions of their product line and this is type of general practice is one I dont agree with. Why cant Mitutoyo just make a SINGLE highly accurate version of their caliper (one digital and one analog) that works for ALL their discerning customers (designers, engineers, hobbyist, students, etc)? Mitutoyo lists 27 different calipers on their corporate website.

I have this one for the workshop. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LPIWAYO/ I wanted a second one for inside the house. So I bought this caliper. Knowing what I know now, Id have spend the extra money to get the one I bought before for 2 main reasons. 1 - This one doesnt auto-power off. 2 - The buttons are small and practically flush with the plastic face. Neither of which was an issue with the other one. The other doesnt even have a power button it powers up and down automatically. Functionally it works fine and seems well made. Id just rather not be annoying by trying to press buttons it should be easy to press. Or opening the carrying case and noticing it was still turned on.

The Mitutoyo 500-196-30 digital caliper has a 0 to 6" (0 to 150mm) measuring range with 0.0005" (0.01mm) increments for precision and an advanced onsite sensor (AOS) electromagnetic inductive sensor for resistance to dirt, oil, and water. Its digital readout LCD shows inch or metric units for versatility, and allows either absolute or incremental measurement readings. The electronic caliper measures inside, outside, depth, and step values for versatility and includes a protective case and SR44 silver oxide battery.

Digital calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside, and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The reading is electronically generated and displayed on a digital, high-resolution screen as a single value. Digital calipers can take differential measurements, which are used to determine the difference in measurements between two objects, by zeroing the display at any point along the scale. Some digital calipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for recording measurements. Compared to dial calipers, digital calipers provide measurements that are faster, easier, and more error-free, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically, and do not resist coolant well. Vernier calipers are more durable than digital calipers because they do not have internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, carpentry, and medicine.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.
