This is far superior to my generic one which was constantly turning off and rezeroing itself and also giving me inconsistent readings every time I measured. If you make jewelry or another craft where you need precise measurements this one is worth it. The only thing I needed to get used to was that it doesnt turn off by itself so sometimes I forget and am probably wasting battery life. However, in most cases that is a feature not a bug (meaning its not always turning itself off in between measurements). In addition, if the jaws are left open and you turn it off, when you turn it on it still gives you a measurement of where you left off, it doesnt just zero off from that spot. You can press the TAR button for that giving you much more control and saving time. Once in a while it gets unzeroed by a 1/2mm and you can just take the battery out, close the jaws all the way, replace battery and hold the zeroing button to reset. Otherwise very stable and consistent readings.

Every guy wants a caliper but thinks they cant justify a good one, so instead starts with one of the cheap ones. If youre smart, youll only do that once. If youre really smart, just buy the good one in the first place. This is one of those tools you just need to pay up for. That said, this one is very nice but I dont love it. Pros: - Highly accurate - Automatically reads exact position every time! Love it! Never loses zero!! - Doesnt run down battery when not on (like all the cheap ones do) - High build quality Cons: - No detail markings. You have to use the digital display. OK, sure, thats fine 98% of the time. But if its ever out of battery, its useless. - Read that last one again - seriously bad design. This is a really nice caliper, and I love the auto-zero, but Id buy any other model that had detail markings. - Buttons are TINY and still hard to press even when you get a fingernail on it. - Doesnt auto shut off quickly (or possibly at all). Recommended. Its worth the purchase price for sure. I just wish theyd fix the minor annoyances.

You just cant beat the quality and performance of Mitutoyo Id say theres only one other brand as good and thats Starrett. The precision on these are incredible theyre accurate to less than .001 and the battery included literally lasts a year maybe more if you are a machinist working with jobs that have tight tolerances then these are for you, their worth every penny. Just be aware these calipers are VERY sensitive particularly the jaws, just one drop on a hard surface will throw these things off by a couple thousands or so, so be very careful if you take good care of these theyll last you a lifetime youll be a very satisfied customer.

How to tell if your calipers are genuine / Buy from Amazon.com LLC Here is how to tell if the Mitutoyo calipers you purchase here (or anywhere else) are genuine: First, and most importantly, I purchased my calipers from Amazon.com LLC because I have come to trust them as a seller, and I knew they would take care of it if I found out the calipers were not genuine Mitutoyo. They were offering the calipers for 92.00 USD with free Prime shipping, which would be the best deal on the web for these calipers if they were in fact genuine. Secondly, once the calipers came, I took careful note of the packaging and paperwork and took good-quality pictures of it all. I checked these important details: (1) The battery should read “SR44” and “Japan” on the battery itself (not just on the packaging), and there should be no battery already installed in the calipers. (2) The calipers should come in a sealed plastic bag packed with a bit of Ferobrite anti-corrosion paper and a yellow tag on the locking knob telling how to install the battery and such. (3) The display of these calipers should read, 0.0000 when zeroed out in the inches mode - counterfeits might read, 0.000 and might have a smaller 0/5 digit on the far right. (4) The locking knob on the top should be the same shape and style as shown in my pictures. (5) The ORIGIN button should be recessed as also shown in my pictures. (6) The serial number on the caliper should match the serial number listed on the calibration certificate. (7) The calipers and packaging should not mention China - anywhere - especially not on the box/envelope in which they were shipped. (8) According to Mitutoyo, it is actually okay if the signature is printed on the calibration certificate, which is a little disappointing, as I have always wanted Mr. T. Suzukis autograph. After I checked for these dead giveaways, I emailed Mitutoyo at their tech support page telling them where I had purchased the calipers and I asked if they would please verify my calipers authenticity, and offered to send pictures. They replied quickly and asked for the pictures, so I sent them pictures of all of the components, packaging, and documentation making sure the image quality was good enough that they could make an informed decision. The next day, they got back with me saying that they had confirmed my calipers authenticity. Follow the steps I have outlined here, carefully compare the calipers you receive to the pictures I have given, and hopefully you can have a similar experience.

I have to trust measurements and after working with these for a while now I do. It hurt a bit to pay the price but no regrets!

I went with a 35$ digital caliper initially. it seemed good, but when i got some extra money i decided to try what everyone else recommended. The size of my groups not only shrunk but also got more consistent. Using these I found the cheap ones were usually off by .001 often more. Im sure these will make up the cost difference over time.

I just purchased this thru Amazon, this is an excellent high-quality digital caliper. For those searching on eBay and elsewhere, this is the real Mitutoyo product in the original case, with the OEM 1-year warranty, and an official calibration certificate whose serial number matches the instrument. This is NOT a cheap imitation, its the original Mitutoyo product and the seller (listed as MSI-Viking Gauge) is an authorized Mitutoyo reseller. I did a lot of research on the Internet to be sure I was buying the real thing, and this is it! The differences between this caliper and the imitations are: The action is very smooth, the readings are stable and repeatable (tested with gauge blocks), the readout is four decimals for inches, two decimals for millimeters, and the construction is very solid, no wobble or shake. Plus, this caliper has an absolute scale, it always remembers the zero-point and you only have to reset it when you change the battery. The cheaper scales drift and need frequent resetting. You can make relative measurements easily (yellow button), but when you turn that feature off, it returns to the original zero without resetting. I highly recommend these calipers, the only caveat is that these are NOT auto-off, you must remember to turn them off after use. However, based on my experience with other Mitutoyo gauges and micrometers, the battery lasts a LONG time so I dont see this as a problem.

This tool is ALL THAT U COULD EVER WANT IN A CALIBER..... However buy the right lenth dont make my mistake. When the 6 one is extended over 3/4 the HEAL of you hand go over the end and puts pressure on the depth tool/gaudge and could be EASILY be BENT, No Fault Of The Tool. So may I suggest buy the 8 one if youre going to mesure items longer than 2 to3 , save the stress of bending your depth gaudge As in the boating industry, buy your second boat the first time, just saying

I have been buying calipers for several years and never this satisfied. Of course all others most likely were chinesiums. Some, I purchased and was very happy for a few days, weeks, months. Battery died within 6 months. I thought that was the norm, so I purchased a dozen batteries to keep as needed. But lately Ive done some research and decided to spend some hard earned money into this caliper and I am very happy. I also purchased one at half price on ebay 2 days ago, but had to cancel the transaction before the seller could ship. I first asked the ebay seller if this was genuine and made in japan, to which he said yes and yes. However, after watching several youtube videos, doing some more research and contacting the company, I asked this seller to please cancel the transaction before shipping it, which he did and I got my refund last night. This morning at 7.45am, I received this new one from Amazon and I was super excited to open it and see if all what I heard and saw was true. This of course feels terrific as was noticed by others. But feeling is not the purpose of this caliper. It sure does not even flicker the numbers like my others did. The numbers on the screen are distinct, and repeatable. All features are on point. I measured several items, inclding paper thickness of various papers. All measurements repeat exact same. I then proceeded to do the ampere testing with my Fluke multimeter. Sure enough, the usage drops considerably when off, not like the others that use almost the same current whether on or off, thus explaining why their batteries die so soon. Bottom line, although I spent a lot more money than the other calipers on this one, am I satisfied? Yes. No regrets at all for the first time, on a caliper purchase.
