Greater than one weekWe just build a new house and all of the rooms are wired for internet. The problem is that the router that we were provided only had so many ports. I bought this to help extend the number of ports that we had available. NETGEAR is my go to for switches like this and this one did not disappoint. I was not looking for anything managed so this hit the mark 100%. Install is a breeze as you just plug it into power, plug in your internet input and then you have 7 other ports to plug into for the rooms in your home. I will be doing a whole home network with some pro grade equipment, but this has been an amazing band-aid until I have the time to get that all laid out and up and running. I will hold on to it just in case there are any other hubs or devices that I might want to run once inside of a room that might need some extra ports. You cannot go wrong with this switch if you are simply looking to make one port into multiple. If you wanted a managed switch this version is not what you are looking for. My network is super basic at the moment so this was what I needed hands down! Love it!

> 3 dayThis is my second unit and I am happy with both. They are well built and they are quite reliable. I purchased my first one about two years ago and it never failed me, so when my needs evolved, I bought a second one. The only thing I do not like is the fact that the ports (with their corresponding lights) face forward. This feature makes it convenient to connect the network cables, but they do not look neat if the unit is placed on a shelf since the cables need to be bent and run over the unit towards the back if you do not want them to hang from the front. Other models have the ports on the back and the lights on the front, but they are more expensive, so I chose this one instead.

> 3 dayZero complaints. Took almost 30 seconds to get it out of the packaging and then plug it in and start using it. Excellent value and build quality. No registration, account, subscription, no nothing. Just plug it in and go.

> 3 dayMy husband does a lot of wiring for small business. He loves the netgear brand. They always work great and are easy to setup. Plug the source wire from the modem into slot 1 and then all your additional devices into 2-8 and now you don’t need wifi! Way faster! So just for general info on an 8 slot you can only use 7 of the slots, the first slot is for bringing the Internet into the unit.

> 3 dayThis little Gigabit Ethernet switch is such a simple, well built, idiot-proof, rugged solution for adding additional ethernet ports just where you need them. When you dont want the extra features of a managed switch, but you need the ultra-reliability of NetGear equipment, this is the best choice. I only needed four new ports, plus one to connect to another switch, but I chose the eight port model over the similar five port model for future additions at this location, because the price is not much more.

> 3 dayI was looking for a 5port switch when I stumbled on this one for about the same price. I hooked it up to my home network and it just works! It has been on my home network and give me extra ports that I was not counting on. Glad I found this one...
