> 3 dayTo state upfront, I am new the knife making (but looking forward to starting a new hobby). The reasons I purchased from this seller was that the cost was a little cheaper and I felt that it would be easier for me to start with 1/8 thick material. Bars came wrapped in butcher paper. Each bar was straight and I didnt notice any significant gouges. Tip for newbies: For those who dont have a bandsaw or grinder - you can rough in your general shape with a standard hacksaw pretty easily. Edit 1: I was able to heat treat using a buddys oven. No noticeable warping - wahoo! Spent a fair amount of time sanding, but eventually came away with something I was happy with. Finished things off with some simple scales (red oak stock I purchased from HD). Overall, it was a pleased with this steel.

> 3 dayBefore getting into the steel, let me quickly provide some background. My kiln is an electric Evenheat with digital controls for precise temperatures. I have made many knives over the years and am very familiar with 1095. The first bar worked perfectly, producing several kiridashi knives that hold an edge very well. The second was a mess, resulting in uneven hardness despite being used for the same type of knife and heat treated/tempered the same way. Given the amount of effort involved in making a blade, it isnt worth it to run the risk with the remaining steel.

> 3 dayThe first order was great. Patriot steel delivered high-quality 1095. The steel heats, quenches, and tempers well. However, I ordered a second time and the package arrived empty, seemingly due to the steep falling out during shipping.
