This is actually decent 1095 steel as advertised. It does NOT come perfectly straight of perfectly flat. It is not a precision ground product. Youll have to straighten and flatten. Another thing you would be well advised to do is put the steel through normalizing and annealing cycles before cutting and grinding to shape. This will better ensure you end up with a straight blade after heat treating.

I got all 4 pieces however only one was stamped and the tape used to wrap the end ended up taking it off. Both ends were taped and the tape left residue when removed.

Got these great 4 pieces of steel yesterday. I am a beginner and looking forward to start on my knifemaking adventure. After a small glitch in the delivered items, customer service was quick to straighten things out. I hope to use Patriot Steel for any future steel needs.

To state upfront, I am new the knife making (but looking forward to starting a new hobby). The reasons I purchased from this seller was that the cost was a little cheaper and I felt that it would be easier for me to start with 1/8 thick material. Bars came wrapped in butcher paper. Each bar was straight and I didnt notice any significant gouges. Tip for newbies: For those who dont have a bandsaw or grinder - you can rough in your general shape with a standard hacksaw pretty easily. Edit 1: I was able to heat treat using a buddys oven. No noticeable warping - wahoo! Spent a fair amount of time sanding, but eventually came away with something I was happy with. Finished things off with some simple scales (red oak stock I purchased from HD). Overall, it was a pleased with this steel.

I’ve made a few knives so far out of this steel and I like it. Hardens well and works pretty well too. Finished knives hold their edges pretty well. Overall, I would recommend this steel.
