I plugged in the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD dongle, installed the drivers for Mac from the disc, and it has worked flawlessly digitizing from my VHS deck. Looks great and no crashes or issues with Mac OS Big Sur.

Needed to convert some VHS and Mini8 to DVD. Reviews shown from 1 stars to 5 stars so kind of confused. After reading most of them. Realized some of the 1 star were from times when the product first came out. Also some of the problems that people run into seem to me are hardware problems and not software. Figured the developer would have enough time to clean up the bugs. So pick one up around $60.00 which I think its a great deal. Installed the thing onto my 2.0 Ghz. Mac running OS10.6.8. Took only about 15 mins. including reading part of the manual and hooking up the wiring. Pop in the VHS and follow the instruction. About 1 1/2 hours later I have myself a recorded DVD. Cannot be easier. Only thing would like to see is maybe some extra functions such as pause and play etc... This way I can skip the parts that I dont want to record. So I dont have to waste time to edit it later. Bottom line, if you just need to do Simple Transfer like me. This is what you want. Good stuff.

I am in the process of digitizing old VHS to computer. It comes with software on DVD, however our computer doesnt have a DVD drive. Tech support was easy to contact and provided me with a link to access software via email. I am having a lot of fun editing downloaded VHS into short iMovies!

I used this to convert all of my familys old home videos to DVD as a christmas present to my parents and it was excellent. The copying quality was good and it was easy to do. My only complaint was that I had to watch the video in real time for the conversion and unfortunately sometimes there was a conversion error so I had to babysit the entirety of my familys recorded history. Sometimes I had to watch them more than once if there was an error. Im sure that a more experienced video editor could have cut together the fragments with ease but not me.

Easy setup and has versatile software. Video capture is very poor, multi colored vertical interference on right extending about 15% in to frame. Random horizontal static through out capture. Sound captured is also very low volume. Would require additional processing to restore sound levels. Source used was home movies on VHC-C. Quality was the same using 3 different devices and multiple cables ( 2 VCR players and original camera used to take videos). I had originally tried a V-Top unit by Fly Kan and while their captured video and sound was excellent the device failed after only about 10 minutes. I thought that Roxio would be more dependable, and it was, But captured video is useless. I suspect all of these video capture devices use about the same chips so quality will just be random. Ill try another V-Top.

Be for-warned! I would not recommend to anyone that they purchase any product from ROXIO/Corel. My experience with ROXIO/Corel has shown that supporting their product as advertised is not of importance. So how can a customer trust that the product purchased will be what is advertised? I purchased ROXIO Easy VHS to DVD for Mac based on the features advertised on the ROXIO web page including the following description. Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac Contents: -Installation CD, including --Easy VHS to DVD Capture software --Roxio® Toast® 9 Basic disc burning software -Roxio Video Capture USB hardware --USB extension cable --Video Inputs: Composite video (RCA) and S-Video (mini-DIN) --Audio Inputs: Stereo audio (RCA) In addition, the current packaging for the ROXIO Easy VHS to DVD for Mac states that the product has, Everything you need to make DVDs from your VHS, Hi8 and Video8 movies and home videos! The packaging also states: Transfer VHS video to your Mac or DVD Create DVD movies from VHS, Hi8 and Video8 tapes None of these statement is completely true based on what is now delivered as part of the product. After receiving the product I found that it did not contain the ROXIO Toast Basic. After several attempts to get help with the missing application, I was informed that ROXIO no longer provides Toast Basic. It was stated in the email from ROXIO tech support, that the web page was out of date and would now be updated. I was also informed that I would have to purchase a separate application to complete the VHS to DVD process. In my experience, if a product is stated to include an application and that application is no longer provided solely due to the companys actions, the company has provided an equal or better alternative application at no additional cost. ROXIO/Corel does not appear to care if their product meets the capabilities advertised. Due to the apparent limited availability of Video capture devices advertised as being compatible with the Mac, I have had to keep this product. I am still trying to find an inexpensive application equivalent to Toast Basic to complete the transfer process to DVD. Again, I do not believe that ROXIO/Corel deserves any future support by customers due to the demonstrated lack of concern with providing customers with a product that meets the expectations set by their product advertising.

I bought this package to rip some old home movies from VHS to my Macbook Pro. The experience you have when using this product is rather mixed. PROS: It does what it says it will, easy install, easy process CONS: very few options, VERY unreliable connection If you need to convert VHS to digital or DVD this prodect is decent. Its not great but it will get the job done. The setup is fast and its a fairly straight forward process. When you install the disc it will install both Easy VHS to DVD and Toast Basic. You can use Toast if you want or just import into iMovie. If they wanted to you to use Toast youd think they would have included the premium version. The version they give you functions but its also full of the upgrade reminders which drives me crazy. Importing into iMovie is very easy. Its time consuming (even on a quad core processor with 8gb of RAM) but it does transition smoothly. The size of the file on the best setting is very large. Its surprising because when you are done youd think you created a HD file. Its really that big. If space is an issue avoid the high quality setting. The biggest issue with this product is the connection. At first the video didnt show up so I unplugged and replugged everything. Next the sound didnt come accross so I unplugged and replugged everything. Then the sound came through but the video went out. After a few times everything magically worked. Not a fun experience. Overall its an ok product that will not amaze you but it will get the job done. The connectivity is a bummer and more options would be nice too.

Product was given as Christmas Gift. The first attempt to capture a 2 hour video crashed and burned when I attempted to save the file (after 2 hours of recording .... of course) The user support community was very helpful and suggested that I lower the quality of the capturing process which worked. I have not successfully gotten this file all of the way to DVD because VHS to DVD is dependent on iDVD which is no longer bundled with iLife. From what learned from my research is that I need to purchase additional software (older iLife which has iDVD or Toast for about $50) unfortunately I would have to pay $20 to Roxio to actually speak to a knowledgable person. I can talk to all of the third party salespeople at any time who will gladly sell me more products, but I am reluctant to purchase additional Roxio products due to lack of support and being burned on this one. I think it is impossible to talk to a real live person at Roxio. I gave it 2 stars because it did not preform as advertised, either change the name to Roxio Easy DVD to MAC (or PC) or bundle the light version of Toast to actually deliver as advertised

I have some really old VHS tapes that I wanted to include with photos in a DVD re a trip taken in 1993. I looked for an inexpensive way of transferring the tapes to my MacBook Pro computer. This product includes software and connecting cables. You dont need a television. Just connect your VCR via USB cable to the computer, start the VCR, and you can watch the progress (like you do on TV but smaller) on your computer as the data is being transferred. The data is compatible with iMovie and can be easily converted to just about any form with the free MPEG Streamclip application. For some reason the process of converting the data directly to iMovie did not work and I had to use the aforementioned application to make the necessary conversion. For that reason I gave the product 4 stars rather than 5. All in all, this is a great buy. It does the job without needing to buy an expensive VHS to DVD recorder.
