04-06-2025It may not be the most surface area per cubic inch. Compared to newer products on the market. But its been time-tested. Its cheaper and easy to use ... No worries about leaching aluminum or other metals.

> 3 dayI’ve always had an issue with high nitrates in my tank despite frequent water changes. I tried infused media pads but they never worked so I figured I would try MATRIX. I’m glad I did! Got my nitrates down from 80 to 20 in just under 2 weeks and still falling. I’m happy this works!!!!

Greater than one weekI had a problem with my ammonia levels. I tried several things to bring it down, to no avail. I bought matrix and after a few days my ammonia levels are back to 0. I now will never use anything else. Best in the world.

> 3 dayFor the average fish tank owner ignorant to basic chemistry, this stuff is magic. For the enthusiast who knows how to at least titrate water parameters, this is your product. Per square inch of de-nitrifying bacteria colonization (internal and external) its the better cost effective product on the market. Plus like most Seachem products I use (Purigen, Phosguard, Cuprisorb); you never have to replace it. Perfect H2O!

> 3 dayDusty at first. Give it a good rinse, pop it in your filter, and youre ready to go!

> 3 dayThis is the best Biological Filtration I have ever used. It cleared my 65 gallon tank very fast and an added bonus, you don’t have to replace it. I have used a few different brands ceramic filter media in the past and as is wore out it would leave a cloudy film on the water surface in the tank. I purchased three 250ml for my fluval FX4 canister filter and it’s working like a charm!

> 3 dayGreat Media for an aquarium. I also like to use the stones as accent decoration in the bottom of the tank. Not sure how much of the good bacteria really gets used that way since water is not moving over them like in a filter but every little bit helps.

> 3 daySeachem...a trusted brand. After having a outdoor koi pond (with bio filtration) in California for many years, we had to move to indoor tanks in New England. However, I never really put much thought into the filter systems that come with todays starter tanks. After having a tank in my daughters room for years (one in which we periodically monitored water properties) we started to struggle to keep some of the fish alive. I decided to take a closer look at our water chemical levels and found we began to struggle with ammonia and nitrates again. It was then that really decided to shift away from the basic carbon filters that come for our specific filter - in which we always seem to throw away established bio filter. I decided that I would try filter padding with Purigen and Matrix - creating a bio filter that I wouldnt toss away each time I replaced the padding. The matrix stones are pumice based, giving them extreme surface area coverage where the bio filter bacteria can become established. I borrowed one of my wifes old nylons to create a flexible bag of matrix stones that was easy to add to the new filter set-up. My only complaint is the powdered dust that is all over the stones when you first open them. Even after a thorough rinsing, the tank became mildly cloudy when the stones were introduced. Within 12 hours that cloudiness was gone. And since using the Purigen/Matrix combo the two tanks have never been more stable and more clear!
