Sennheiser HD 598 Special Edition Over-Ear Headphones - Black (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Simply Amazing

Having read many 5 star reviews, I bought and tried these and will return them. The phones are light and comfortable. Unfortunately, I must disagree with all the reviews talking about bass response. Perception of sound quality is, of course, highly subjective. The sound is generally good, with clear treble and good definition, but the bass is just too pervasive for my taste. I wish Sennheiser still made the HD 420.

These put out some great sound. I had to boost some levels with EQ software, but overall these are the best pair of headphones Ive ever owned. Theyre comfortable to wear as well. The open ear design gives you much better sound, but it has the side effect of being rather noisy for those around you. Also, you can clearly hear your surroundings as well. But for sitting in my room by myself at night as I play video games and listen to music, these headphones are amazing for the price. Definitely a good purchase, and from my research, these are the ones to buy. Four star review mostly because I dont read five star reviews; they tend to be biased or not very well thought out. I also took off a star because the 1/4 jack is a pain, since I have to use the included converter, and so its a bit bulky plugged into the side of my speaker.

WOW! These things are great. I come from always using closed headphones. The open back setup is a very different experience. The sound stage is awesome. I can hear little intricacies I could never hear before with closed back headphones. Well done Sennheiser!

Got them the next day with one day delivery. I have been using Sennheiser headphones for some time. I was looking for a set, and the price made me choose this headset over newer and more expensive sets. The voice is better than the more expensive Bowers & Wilkins set that I have been using. I prefer open back phones because you can use them for a longer time without fatigue. Despite being open back, they restrict outside noise because they are over ear, and not on-ear. The phones are a bit tight and my head feels clamped, and hopefully they will loosen a bit with use. Ive been using them with a headphone amp and Im still checking out the bass and treble levels on the phone, so cannot comment on that. Update - After using the set with a headphone amp, and with a Dac amp, my experience is that the treble sound is slightly higher and the bass sound is slightly lower. If you prefer high bass, then, this needs an amp or an app with an equalizer to boost bass. The sound is better for movies etc. (with more vocals than music) than for listening to music. Overall, my experience with this headset is highly positive.

Great quality headset. Has mild sound dampening from the cushion around the ear, so it blocks out most medium volume environmental noise. It also makes it so that if you have these headphones on, people sitting right beside you cannot hear your music.

Great headphones, quality and sound are spectacular. I use em for gaming and listening to music only flaw is when I stream you may be able to hear the sound coming out as they are not closed headphones. Overall great product comfortable as well

Good sound, bass is clear and strong. Theyre also very comfortable as well, can and have worn these for hours on end. It comes with a 6 cable with a 1/4 inch jack for professional equipment or amplifiers, and a smaller 3 long cable with a 1/8th inch jack for phones and PCs. Theres also a 1/4 inch to 1/8th inch adapter in the box.

Well made headphones, where the high to mid-range really shines. Great for acoustic music.
