Sennheiser HD 598 Special Edition Over-Ear Headphones - Black (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Worth the Price. Got it for 8k in a lightning deal. First ever serious audio equipment purchase, its been down the rabbit hole ever since. Had to do a lot of research before buying these. If you dont know much about types of headphones, id suggest you start googling them to better understand what youre paying for, btw these are Open-Back. The most widely compared headphone to this is M50x and SHP 9500, both of which are totally different from this even though prices are almost same. From a normal user perspective: If youve had your average mobile phone earphones or those chi-fi cans and this is your first foray into audiophile territory, Using the Sennheiser 598 for your favourite music will have a lot of OH MY GOD or WTF, IVE NEVER HEARD THIS BEFORE moments. Close your eyes and feel transcendence. From a Audiophile perspective: - Wide and Realistic Soundstage, The sound stage feels like listening to a live band.( you need to hear it to truly understand it) - Rich Detail and Crystal clear highs with a dark sound signature but bit recessed mids. - Easy to drive headphones, even though they have a higher 50 ohm impedance compared to the norm of 32 ohms , you might have trouble getting the volume you want out of certain devices.. Amps arent necessary( doesnt mean you shouldnt have one). - Comes with Velour pads. Very comfortable for long hours of use. - Bass is dull and lacks that oomph. So bass-heads, This is not for you. - Sound Isolation is Nil as these are open back. - 2 sets of cables, default 1.2m cable with 3.5mm and longer 3m cable with 1/4 plug and 1/4 to 3.5mm conversion jack included. - Proprietary jack for connecting wires to the headphone unit. So if you had any idea of pairing it with other 2.5mm accessories like v-moda boom mic, you can forget that. (theres a hack to do it, but lets not talk about that here). Not dividing it with pros and cons, because they are subjective based on the user. The HD 598 are just entry audiophile headphones. I use them with a Fiio Q1 dac/amp ( i bought those as my mobo sound died). My eyes are set on the 6xx series in the future. At the time of writing this review, its been 6 months of using it. and the 5xx lineup is being refreshed(with HD 599 etc), so get them while theyre exhausting stocks.

Great headphones. Classy design, great sound, two cord lengths, and extremely comfortable. I wanted closed headphones so I could block sounds on the airplane and also not bother people with my music, but I couldnt find any that I liked. So I tried these instead. Im happy that I did. They are wonderful. I wish I could have gotten them on sale but even full price I feel like I got my moneys worth.

Perfect open headphones. Easy to drive. Onkyo amp at home and iPod while out. The addition cable is amazing perfect size for the iPod.

With the converter, the plug sticks out about 4-5 inches from the input. Just one slight push the wrong way can bend the audio port and damage the headphones and your computer.

va detto per prima cosa, che ho deciso di comprare queste cuffie per un fattore di comfort, le mie vecchie cuffie erano comparabili a tubi per le patatineattaccati luno a laltro con un elastic per quanto riguarda la comodità, con queste invece potrei indossarle per 3 giorni di fila con degli occhiali dalle stecche spesse quanto bacchette cinesi, e comunque non sntire nessun affaticamento o dolore. detto ciò, il suono è ottimo, anche troppo direi, canzoni che prima adoravo, ora non mi piacciono più di tanto, perché posso sentire cose che prima non sentivo come un più scarsa qualità audio del file(si, il problema è la canzone, non le cuffie, me ne sono accertato con più test) o semplicemente cose che prima non sentivo, come voci di sottofondo. per quanto riguarda luso nei videogiochi, non ho potuto testarle a fondo, ma il timbro acustico a primo acchitto mi sembra esattamente al punto giusto per giochare agli sparatutto, ove in un gioco come battlefield offrono un range audio ideale per spari di armi di medio calibro e per sentire i passi, nonostante le abbia collegate alla scheda madre e non ad un dac o sistema audio vari. le cuffie essendo open-ear offrono poca differenza di suono dallesterno al interno delle cuffie, inoltre come presumibile, il suono lo pò sentire anche le cuffie non le indossa, per cui è sconsigliato luso allaperto o in momenti dove non volete far sentire ad altri cosa state ascoltando, andrebbero usate in studio o comunque in privato. detto questo, non ho trovati difetti in particolare nelle cuffie, forse solo il modo in cui si dovrebbe regolare laltezza, ma questo perché io non sono abituato a questo genere di cuffie, per il resto, sono perfette per il prezzo a cui le ho comprate(150 euro in saldo, 160 la versione standard) e per le motivazioni dacquisto che vengono consigliate dal produttore.

It is a great pair of headphones when I play video games and I skype! The only issue I have is when I travel on the bus and train is I can barely hear my music on full blast. They are very quiet.
