SENNHEISER HD 660 S - HiRes Audiophile Open Back Headphone

These headphones were on sale, and it seem like such a great deal but unfortunately if you have any kind of mic around the air cups, especially when you talk into it, you’ll get significant hissing and ear piercing feedback. I try them with normal audio and they actually sound amazing, especially with a Hi-Rez interface. Again if you were using this to listen to yourself while podcasting or doing vocals or anything like that, this will not work for you. I’ve tried it on the Rodecaster, pro two, TC, helicon voice, live three extreme, and no matter what I try, I still get the same results .

I realize there are many high end headsets…. And I’m not an audio specialist, but oh my these are amazing. Lows with depth and resonance, crystal highs, clear mid tones…. Use it with a DAC and rediscover your love for music.

Forgive my language, but these are the best headphones Ive ever tried. Ive only been using them for an hour since they arrived and I just had to share my experience. Normally, I dont buy gear like this, but I wanted the best for my home recording studio. (I have Universal Audio Apollo Twin interface.) These headphones are soooo clear - I hear everything, good and bad on my mixes. And commercial recordings are just a joy to listen to. And the padding is so soft and gentle, its like being wrapped in an audio blanket.

These are not better than HD6xx/650 even if price was identical. Given that they are 150% more than the HD6xx it is no contest. While the sound quality is rather very similar, the difference is that 660s are a bit closer to the performance which is NOT a good thing - while just a bit more detail is emphasized (not revealed) the soundstage, ambiance and cohesiveness of the sound/performance is reduced, again just a little, but that is not a good thing. Also, the bass is not as present. These may be better for recording/monitoring but they are not better for music enjoyment. Comfort is identical and pretty good for over ear headphones. If you want a Sennheiser 6 series - get the HD6xx from drop instead - far better deal and a little bit better headphone too.

Beautiful set of headphones, the sound quality is gorgeous, has a cord with an abundance of length, comes with an adapter plug so you can plug it into a computer or phone etc.

If I buy related products in the future, I will give priority to this store.

The 150ohm impendence makes the 660S much easier to drive then 600/650, it has a typical Sennheiser rich and warm sound signature. Im using the balanced output of Fiio M11 to drive my 660S and it sounds amazing. The sound stage is smaller than 600/650, thus you can feel the intimacy between the singer, especially female vocals. The base is rich and warm, but in decent amount, and does not overpower the treble.

So far the music ive listened to just keeps getting better and better as i keep listening. As a bass head I only have the FIIO EK10 DAC/AMP as of right now but will be upgrading this coming week. Its decent but does not get as loud as i want it to. I cant wait to see what these headphones can really do with a good setup and will be updating my review in the future when they are also more broken in. The sound is crisp its something like I have never experienced before, the bass is smooth but not overbearing, and the vocals are perfectly balanced and so far I have had zero issues with the headphones. I enjoy the longer cable it comes with but I tend to roll over it with my chair. I wish it included a shorter one with a 3.5mm jack for the price but like I said ill probably be buying some upgrades soon. If you find the right song then these things will literally ROCK YOUR WORLD. Hope I could answer any uneasy questions but these things are literally an investment that i believe are already worth it and I only have been able to listen to music for a day straight with them for i got them yesterday.

Really blown away by the sound quality. By no means an audiophile I can appreciate the sound these provide and would recommend.

Hurt my ears. Not a good fit.
