So here it goes, not too hard to take off the old ones. Just pull the grill forward and slide socket wrench up from below light(because some people complain it’s too hard). The nuts that came with it need a washer. I installed with what they sent and the nuts were just small enough to slide through the hood(see image). Because I didn’t feel like going to get washers I just took the nuts and attached washers that came with jeep, they fit fine. Tiny complaint, I wasn’t a fan of the Alan wrench design but it does allow for these to be adjusted. I believe someone said that these were “tight”… but they’re adjustable, so it’s a little thing I got over since the product I returned before these was too loose. Lastly, they have the plastic pieces that go under the latch. I didn’t realize until after installing one side that there’s a JK and JL option. It still fits though, I just have one of each on my jeep now. All in all, feels sturdy and looks pretty good. I haven’t driven on the highway yet but it’s metal so I’m assuming hood flutter won’t happen. So I would recommend!

First, I save 5 star ratings for the best of the best products and as much as I like these latches, the instructions were awful and not much more than a handful of photos. That said, if you are semi-handy you can grasp what needs to be done and in what order but there are likely to be a few re-do moments. Take some time to think about things, take your time doing the work, and while its a cumbersome and time consuming process its pretty easy skill-wise. I did detach my grill by removing the snap buttons and pulling it loose from the bottom clips. I left the wiring harnesses connected and leaned the grill forward. That took only a few minutes and really, imho doing so saved me much more time getting access behind the fenders. Can you get your fingers and socket wrench in there with the grill on? Maybe but why struggle more than needed? If I had to do the job again Id probably mask off the body and fender areas surrounding the latch area. You are working with metal parts, Allen wrenches, etc and one slip and you got a nice scratch. I worked very carefully and deliberately with luckily no oops-es but it could easily happen. I felt the size of a 3/8 socket wrench worked best in the small space behind the fenders but the normal length of it was a little short so I used a pipe as a makeshift extension. That helped a lot holding the lock nut in place behind the fender as I threaded the bolt into it. Regular nuts vs the lock nuts provided wouldve made the install much easier overall. When you mount the upper hook piece Id start with it at its lowest position. For me it was perfectly tight there and any higher wouldve been way too tight.

Ill keep this review short and simply say that these latches look great, are pretty easy to install, and solved my problem of having dull faded OEM latches. Below are are few steps that may help with your install. 1. check the rubber gasket (for bottom bracket) to ensure it is correct for your model JL or JK. 2. Remove the bottom bracket allen bolts (small ones) from hinge to access the larger allen bolt that goes through lower body panel. 3. Put a piece of tape on the back of nut (bottom bracket) before inserting into 13mm socket. Should prevent nut from falling off socket. 4. Align nut in socket with lower panel hole (reaching behind panel with ratchet). 5. Align bottom bracket* allen bolt with panel hole and taped nut. Easier than trying to fish for threads with nut. *Ensure bottom bracket flat side is down 6. Attach bottom bracket hinge with (small) allen bolts. 7. Attach top bracket. 8. Adjust top bracket (up/dpwn) as needed to get secure fit.

I loved the look of these latches for the price. However, one of the screws that holds the bushing in place came loose, and with it the latch on that side. (Hood flutter). If I could just replace the hex socket screw I would be a happy camper. Next time I will use Loctite. IF not for this nuisance, this would be a 5/5 easily.

Replaced the cheap rubber OEM hood latches with these, no more hood jump. Did the replacement while we replaced the headlights, much easier that way.
